OS X :: External Monitor On Macbook Pro - Flickering Between Yellowish And Normal Colors

Feb 14, 2010

I am trying to connect my Macbook Pro (bought Fall 2009) to a external monitor - an Asus VW222. I use a VGA converter which I bought together with the mac, I plug a VGA cable in the converter and then I plug it into the display port of the mac.

I do get an image on the Asus monitor, but it is not very useful. It is flickering between a yellowish color everywhere and normal colors. Moreover I cannot change the resolution. If I set the resolution to 1680*1050 (the Asus' native res) then the image still looks scaled/grainy and it doesn't fit on the monitor. The top menu for example is outside of the screen and the whole image is slightly moved to the right so I have a black bar to the left. If I set the resolution to the mac screens native res, 1440*900, the image fits on the Asus but is of course scaled. I tried go to system preferences and calibrate, but it did not help.

MacBook Air :: External Monitor Flickering?

Aug 31, 2009

So, I replace my MacBook Air Rev. A for a Rev. C (2.13, 128 SSD). I'm more than happy with the performance increase, not so with the graphics.

I got the lines. They do not bother me, as you can hardly seen them. However, I use the MacBook at the office, hooked to a 17" VGA monitor (Viewsonic 1280x1024, 75 Hz) with the Apple VGA-MiniDisplayPort adapter. I never had any problems with my old Macbook Air, but now I'm seeing flickering and I think the display is not as sharp as before.

If I use the computer in clam shell, only with the external, the flickering goes away. Also, I haven't detected any flickering if I boot in Windows 7 (although I haven't used it much).

MacBook Air :: (10.9.3) Grey Flickering Screen After Connecting To External Monitor

Jun 2, 2014

Recently I connected my macbook air (bought it in 2011, now on Version 10.9.3) with a Panasonic TV (TX-32LM70F) via Thunderbolt to HDMI adapter. After I disconnected the external device, the macbook air's screen still worked normal, but when i restarted it, it was only flickering grey.

I found out that it actually boots normally and i can use it with an external monitor (in fact I am using it right now), but that the built-in macbook screen simply doesn't work anymore.

I tried to restart while connected and while disconnected to an external screen, I have reset the SMC Controller, I have reset the PRAM Controller, but it hasn't changed.

This is actually the second time something like this happenend (it was another external device i connected it to), and last time, about a few weeks ago, it just worked again after a few days for no reason, all i did was wait until all energy was gone from the battery and the reload it. So might it be a battery problem? Or is it some controller i don't know? It was the same phenomenon two times: connect to external monitor - disconnect - built-in screen still works - restart - built in screen only flickers grey - macbook still boots and works fine with the very external monitor that might have caused the problem.

MacBook Pro :: Colors Reversed On External Monitor After Connecting To Sony TV?

May 20, 2012

I have an 15" Macbook Pro (Lion) with external HP monitor, which has been working fine. It is connected to Thunderbolt port via DVI.Today I connected the MBP to a Sony TV using Thunderbolt port via HDMI, which worked. When I switched back to the external HP monitor, colors were reversed on the HP monitor (you can read the contents but the colors are mostly green and pink). The MBP internal monitor displays correctly. I've tried rebooting the computer, resetting the HP monitor to factory settings, and deleting the HP monitor profile. No change.

MacBook Air :: Monitor Flickering When In Certain Websites And Then Turns Black

Sep 11, 2014

Macbook Air 13", Early 2014, 1.7 Ghz Core i7

120 SSD, 8GB Ram, OS X 10.9.4

External Monitor Compaq W185q

I'm using an external Monitor (Compaq W185q) and everything's ok until I open certain webs, this websites have banners on both sides mostly, so I think that's important to tell. After couple seconds on those sites, the monitor starts flickering and then it turns black, completely. To make it work, I launch Mission Control and it starts working again, I drag the safari window back to my MBA's monitor, and problem solved.

MacBook Pro :: Dell Monitor Not Calibrating Properly / Colors Seems To Be Washed Out

Feb 8, 2010

I usually use my 2209WA connected to my Desktop running Windows 7, but sometimes I'll connect it to my MBP. Windows seems to have found a color profile that works very well, which it got from Windows Update, created by Dell, presumably. It might not be good enough for someone who needs 100% accurate color, but it's good enough for me.

I tried two different profiles for this monitor connected to my MBP. The first was one I downloaded from a forum somewhere, and the second was the one Windows is using, copied over. The display looks OK with both, but the color depth isn't nearly as good as it is on Windows. Connected to my MBP, the colors look washed out and flat, while the same colors are much richer when the monitor is connected to my PC. For example, pure blue (#0000FF) looks faded when the monitor is on my MBP, and much deeper when it is on my PC. I tried changing the gamma setting under OS X (manual calibration), but it didn't have much effect. It is set at 2.2 for both 2209 profiles and for my MBP LCD's profile.

How can I make my monitor properly calibrated when it is hooked up to my Mac?

In both cases I am connecting the monitor with DVI (just moving the cable since I'm too cheap to buy a switch), and both OSes have it set at native resolution. The settings on the monitor (color, brightness, contrast, etc) do not change when I switch computers.

Before I updated I had no problems but when I updated to 10.5.8 it seems that I have some "flickering" issue. I'm not sure if it has something to do with the refresh rate but basically it looks like my monitor is slightly vibrating. Does anyone know how to fix this?

MacBook Air :: Slight Flickering Only On Dark Grey On External Display?

Sep 12, 2010

I have a 28" inch display attached to newest version of Air. Works ok except when I have a full screen on plain dark grey background, then I see a waviness or flickering effect. Like the dark grey in Iphoto background. Other than this, the other colors seems ok. Pictures are fine, even when dark. Maybe there's a slight flickering with dark blue. Any explanations for this.
using mini display port to dvi. Tried with a friends dual link display, was a little different, but still unstable looking in dark grey when it fills the screen.

Could it be just what it takes to make this color, or the Hertz, which is 60. Other than this, no problem with the screen.

MacBook Pro :: External Display Flickering Static When Connected Thru HDMI Splitter

Jun 25, 2014

I have a Late 2011 MBP, just recently I also go an Xbox and wanted to hook it up to my external display that I have been using for a long time with no issues. I went and bought this: URL....to be able to easily switch between the two inputs. The xbox works fine, however when I view my Macs input the screen flickers a static image very frequently.

I know what you're thinking, it's probably an issue with either a cable, or the device. But when I boot into Windows via Bootcamp with the same exact setup, there is no flicker at all. The display is a dell s2440L, the HDMI adapter is a rocket fish.

Here are the troubleshooting steps I have tried: Resetting PRAM/SMCChanging out HDMI cables on both the Splitter output, and the inputs (I tried 3 different cables on both the inputs, and outputs.)Downgrading OSX to 10.7 (And then went back to 10.9)Lowering the resolution on the monitor (Lower resolutions flicker just as much, if not more.)Resetting the splitter by unplugging the HDMI cord powering it and plugging it back in.and of course, plugging my computer into the splitter input that the Xbox works fine on, as well as taking the xbox one out so the computer is the only input on the splitter.

Like I said, the Xbox works fine, and even the computer works fine in Windows, but whenever I boot into OSX my screen flickers with this static. I should add, the display works fine when not connected to the splitter on OSX.

MacBook :: TV As External Display Suddenly Displaying Only Thousands Of Colors?

Oct 26, 2010

It's been a while since I've hooked up my MacBook (late 2008 aluminium) to my TV (Samsung LE40M87BD), to use the latter as an external display for watching a film. Tonight I did it once again, and to my dismay the TV was displaying only thousands of colors. Maybe even only 256, I don't know. It's not a changed setting in my TV, as I've looked through its menu and couldn't find any option that would force it to display the millions it's certainly capable of.

After seeing this weird issue, I opened System Preferences. I looked in the Displays preference pane, but since some years Apple allows no manual control over the color depth anymore. So no luck there. I tried restarting, but that changed nothing. It outputs a correct 1080p 50Hz (PAL) signal, but the colors are just all wrong.

How can it be that my MacBook always used to perfectly display millions of colors on my TV, but now suddenly doesn't? I'm using Apple's own Mini Display Port to DVI adapter, and then a DVI to HDMI cable, which always worked problem free. So it's not the cables, I think. It has to be something in the hardware or software. I'm hoping it's software, otherwise it will be a more serious problem. I haven't tried BootCamp yet, but will do so tonight, just to see if Vista will output millions of colors.

MacBook :: Using External Monitor With New MB (2.4GHz)/monitor Sleep?

Oct 16, 2008

I picked up a new MacBook yesterday and I noticed a weird issue when coming out of "monitor sleep" mode, not regular sleep mode.

When I move the mouse, the external monitor shows what you see in the picture, kinda like a TV with no signal. The MacBook screen works fine so what I just do is unplug and re-plug in the DVI plug and everything is good again.

My 24 inch Dell monitor worked fine with my M1330 and other computers so I know it's not that. Does anyone have the same issue or maybe give me some light on this?

MacBook Pro :: Detects An External Monitor But No Display On The Monitor?

Aug 5, 2009

Any other information that may seem necessary, let me know. I tried clearing my PRAM and clearing the power and such but nothing seems to work.

For example, if I open up activity monitor, click on the network tab at the bottom, i'll get a little spike in data received every so often, maybe every 20-30 seconds, usually 50-200 bytes, nothing big... Occasionally there will be a little red spike for data sent mixed in there too, about the same size, every once in a while.

PowerPC :: Screen Resolution And Color Calibration / Grey Flickering Screen On Internal Monitor

Dec 5, 2007

Thing is I got hold of a 1ghz 17" iMac almost for free, it had a dead logicboard (I checked it with a voltage-meter), but I figured I could fix it and have a small hobby project-thingie going on. Well I just got a new logic board today, for a 1ghz 17" iMac g4.

Things is I only get a bright grey screen from my Mac when I boot. I've tried connecting it to a external display and that works fine. Everything is there.

I then reinstalled Tiger on it, with the computer connected to my external screen. And I still have the same problem. (I have now disconnected the ext. screen and is controlling the iMac from my MBP). So at least it isn't the installation.

So what is the problem? I can via an Apple Keyboard control the brightness on the blank screen, which would indicate that it does react to input of some degree.

I've read that if the inverter is dead or anything else is dead, you would get a rolling grey screen, flicker or something like that and not a steady bright grey. One thing I'm thinking is. What if somehow this logic board was for a 15" 1ghz imac g4? Can I check this?

I read that long thread about guys buying hi-res displays for their MBPs, and they had to replace some display profile? Could I maybe fix it with a different display profile-file?

I'm really confused by all this, and would appreciate any help I can get.

Model: PowerMac6,1
CPU-Type: PowerPC G4 (3.3)

and

the gfx chip is a GeforceMX4 with 32mb.

The display is a mode 9c27, manufacturer 610, serialnumber 00000, manufacture date: B84D7200.

Hardware :: Powerbook With Broken Monitor - Force Boot To External Monitor?

Jan 31, 2010

I have a G4 powerbook with an LCD that only displays the top 25% of the screen. I've been using an external monitor with it just fine. Today, I reinstalled the OS and ran into a problem. The main OSX startup menu (you know, where it asks for your location, timezone, personal info, etc) is prompting me for information, and I can't see the forms to fill them in! The external monitor defaults to "extended" as opposed to "mirrored", and the forms are embedded, meaning I can't drag them over to my external monitor. Obviously, if I can't fill out these forms and get to the desktop, the laptop is completely useless.

Does anyone know how to force the external monitor to be "mirrored" from startup? Is there a keycommand?

Hardware :: Effective Way To Remove Yellowish Stain On Apple Keyboard

Sep 20, 2010

Anyone of you experiencing suborn stain, I.E keyboard become yellowish after a long terms usage? (On apple keyboard), well here is the solution for you guys. All you need is
-Toothpaste (any will do but, It works well if the toothpaste have the effect for whitening)
-Clothe,(white color clothe so you can see the toothpaste actually working)
-a little bit amount of water

Okay all you need is take a little bit amount of toothpaste, use your finger apply it evenly on the area, rub on it, after about 10 second of rubbing use the clothe to continue rubbing until you see your keyboard start to turn to normal color as you purchase after rubbing the toothpaste should be dry up but no worries it will leave no stain, use another clothe dip in a little bit amount of water(very little, don't deep in too much else the water will accidentally drip in to the keyboard). and rub on the area. You can see actually the keyboard start to turn to white color, repeat the sequence to achieve the maximum result that you desire.
