OS X Yosemite :: Moving Windows Between Desktops In Mission Control?
Dec 9, 2014I just upgraded from 10.8 to 10.10.1. I have two monitors attached to my system. I have 4 desktops (2 monitors each) created in Mission Control.
I can no longer drag an application or folder window from one desktop to another. Had no problems in 10.8

OS X :: Shuffling Of Windows In Expose By Design?
Sep 10, 2009I'm probably daft but why do the windows swap positions in Expose? I mean... what's the point? There doesn't seem to be any logic to it. (But I'm probably missing it).
I go in and out of Expose a lot and find myself always hunting for the window I want - hard to do on a 13" screen. (Especially when I ain't sober which is most of the time).
At least the titling of each window in SL helps a bit.
OS X Yosemite :: PS3 Controller Randomly Stopped Working
Dec 12, 2014So my paired Bluetooth PS3 controller just stopped connecting with my mid-2011 iMac today. It says it is connected in the drop-down Bluetooth menu, I can see the flashing red lights, but it no longer works with any of the games it did 1-2 days ago.
I did download USB Overdrive to use the PS3 controller plugged in (with Expendabros, which was crashing when I tried to use the controller wirelessly, a known bug) yesterday, and it worked with that. Anyway, I made sure Overdrive was not selected as active in System Preferences. I tried that little reset button on the controller itself. Charged it, of course (it was almost full anyway). Restarted my computer. Add resetting SMC and PRAM (the latter always makes me nervous, as it really screwed up my wifi settings once) to the list. I tried removing the device from the drop-down menu bar list and repairing, no luck. Is it odd that it is showing up in the drop-down list, but not in the list in Bluetooth System Preferences?
In addition, I looked at my System Profile, and the PS3 controller is listed as NOT paired...Lastly, I tried to find com.apple.Bluetooth.plist in "Preferences" under Library (to try deleting it), but I couldn't find it. I did find com.apple.I don't believe there were any OS updates recently that could have changed Bluetooth somehow.

OS X :: Itunes Shuffling Music And Option Not Selected
Sep 10, 2010For starters, I have 15000 songs on my itunes. I upgraded to itunes 10 in an effort to resolve my problem, but that did nothing. I also deleted all my playlist I had. My itunes is shuffling my music, and I do not have that option selected. It is also choosing from 3 artist from the many I have and it keeps playing the same artist and songs over and over again. Have any of you had this problem or do you have any ideas on how I might fix it?

OS X Yosemite :: MacBook Pro Hangs Randomly When Opening A Graphics Heavy Website In Chrome

Problem - It happened couple of time, earlier it happened when I was opening "Nordstorm.com" (I know, it was Black Friday time ) and it happened yesterday again, while opening VICE.com. When the problem occurs, machine hangs and after some time I can move cursor, but can't do anything. I have to hard restart the machine. after machine restarts, it shows a popup saying that a graphics problem detected and do you want to report it.
I suggested switching off "graphics switching" from energy menu in system preferences. even that crashed the machine first time when I tried that. So I have graphics switching off for now. Don't know for sure if it is OSX bug, Chrome/Browser bug or something else.

MacBook Pro :: Randomly Loses Retina Display And Showing Pixels On Top Menu Randomly?
Sep 4, 2014My mid-2014 15" Macbook Pro randomly "loses" its retina display at the top menu (becomes pixel-y), where the battery, sound, and wifi logos are (on the top right side of the screen). A restart fixes the issue, but I want to know if this is an issue that can be fixed?

Desktops :: One Or Two Processors?
Sep 23, 2008I recently acquired a used G5. When I look at "about this mac", it tells me that I have a two processor, 2ghz machine but when I open the case I only see one G5 icon. The serial number is from late 2005. I just wanted to make sure that I have two processors as I'm planning on selling/trading up to a mac pro.

Current status is...Cannot turn on, screen is dark. Blue light on power button stays on. Can't restart after holding it down...Red light inside box is on. Read that it might be air deflector trouble, but that's not it. Opened box removed plastic and returned it...another red light lit , then turned off. 1st red light stays on.
Before the above began, a restart would end up in a hang at the end of the progress bar. Ran Disk Util from Install CD which showed errors: "Volume Chk failed...HFS Volume needs repair". Ran FSCK whick said it fixed all. Ran Disk Warrior afterward b/c still would hang at startup. Says all now OK...but NOT! Have tried saving files thru Disk Warrior...but now, as per above, cannot get it to start up. Or turn off...
Would like to get it lit to save any additional files if drive is near the end...

Jan 2, 2010I have a new iMac 27" w OSX.6.2, 2.66ghz intel cor 15, w 4 gb RAM and a 1 tb internal HD. I have final cut xpress3.5, live type and sound track loaded onto it, besides the stuff that came with the package.
I have five separate external hard drives. Two of them are hot swap 800 enclosures for which I have 5 hot swap trays. I have about 3 tb external storage all together.
Is there any reason to partition the internal HD? I could get 4 250 gb partitions; or any other configuration. I have never done an HD partition, so I need some guidance about how to do it, if it is a good thing.
My thought is to use an external HD for scratch disc, and use one of the partions for "Time Machine" back ups. I realize that this is sort of silly, since it is still the same internal HD that is doing all of the heavy lifting for program operation. But this thing comes with 1 tb of HD space for some reason. I wonder why, if not to store something besides programs and audio render files.
I read that any 400speed external HD in a system will slow all of the faster drives. So my thought is to use only the hot swap 800 enclosures and hot swap drives with the new iMac, and leave the older 400 speed drives plugged into my iMac G5.
I could put the time machine back ups on one of the hot swap drives, but it would have to be plugged into the new iMac all of the time and I would lose the ability to drag (QT) files from that drive, to the other hot swap drive, or into the browser of FCX.
Could I set time machine to back up only on order? Then I could still use the hot swap enclosure with any one of the hot swappable drives, and use another external drive as a scratch disc and have them daisy chained into the iMac. I could back up at the end of every work session.
Desktops :: How Do You Connect Older G4 To LCD TV
Jan 19, 2010I'm trying to connect an older G4 computer tower (400mhz) to an LCD TV (Vizio 20"). The computer has a ATI rage 128 video card. I have a VGA-to-VGA cable that connects the computer to the RGB connection on the TV. However, I'm not getting a signal. Are any additional steps, hardware, cabling, etc. needed here? Not very familiar with tech details. I've searched web. I have access to an 'ATI rage 128Pro' card that seems to have a DVI connection in addition to the VGA port. Would this work better?

I own an intel iMac and while I was attempting to restart it on Sunday night it went into a gray screen with the box asking me to shut and restart in several languages. I did and still get stuck on that page. I did a PRAM reset and that didn't work. So I used my start up disk to get to the disk utility and my HD is fine so I used an external drive to install the OS on it and reboot from and reinstalled from TimeMachine (only problem is the last time I backed up was 5 months ago)Again I checked my internal drive and everything seems okay, but I cannot reboot from it.
