I've had my wallpaper set to an event within iPhoto, and for it to change every 15 minutes. For some reason on start-up, I only get the stock aurora wallpaper (which isn't in iPhoto). Restarting doesn't seem to help. I'm on a MB running Snow Leopard.
View 1 RepliesNot that long ago, I found the folder that contains all the wallpaper backgrounds - I think it was somewhere in the Library? Anyways, after I found it, I added some of my own wallpaper images to the folder, so that they showed up in the pre-set folders of Nature, Plants, Abstract, etc, and not in my New Desktop Wallpapers folder. Well, now I have some new backgrounds I want to add, and for the life of me I can't remember where I found that folder before! I looked in the Library and the closest thing there is the Screensavers folder, but no wallpapers. Anyone know where this is located??

View 1 Replies View RelatedLong story short, I've been trying to move my entire iTunes from a NAS to my Mac and it's got messy and I'm left with a situation whereby all the songs are safe on the Mac in the correct folders, e.g. Bruce Springsteen songs in the correct album folder in the Bruce Springsteen parent folder, HOWEVER, when I try to play certain songs (not all) on iTunes it skips over the track and doesn't even highlight it with an "!". When I check the file path it will show iTunes/iTunes Media/Music/Madonna (for Bruce Springsteen).Â
So, my question is, how can I now re-associate the songs paths in iTunes app with the correct folders? Is there a script or can I somehow reimport the songs? I'm not worried about losing ratings, last played, play count, etc. but I wouldn't want to lose my playlists.Â

Does anyone else think the Mail.app is wonky. It's annoying the hell out me.Constantly asking for passwords when it doesn't need them. It seems like anytime a mail server doesn't respond to a Mail.app login, Mail.app assumes the username/password is wrong and pops up a dialog box for me to type it in. Why is this software so stupid that it thinks a lack of response calls for a new password? It's done this since day one.
The Search doesn't work at all. I'll type in a keyword that I KNOW is in the body of an email message and Search will return no results. Search "entire message" doesn't seem to search the entire message at all. They should rename it to "Don't Search entire message".
I can't choose a custom photo for my Desktop wallpaper on Leopard. When I choose a Photo in my Wallpaper a popup tells me: Duplicate Folder The folder you selected is already present in the picture source list. This is wrong. And in the past it worked.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI am pulling my hair since friday trying to get my MBP's time machine work with a 1TB drive connected to a early 2009 AEBS. First I spent half a day doing the first backup by connecting the hard drive directly to Mac using USB and later when I connected that drive to AEBS, time machine would not recognize the drive as the same one and I had to spend a good part of yesterday backing up my complete drive again.... and just when I thought I can rest easy knowing that my eternal dream of getting time machine work wirelessly, I saw time machine complain that there is not enough free space left to backup my paltry 103 GB worth of data on just second day.
Turns out, the Time machine backup volume (volume created by time machine on the AEBS disk) shows that the used space is 1TB.... but the size of the sparsebundle is only 103GB and my airport drive mount itself shows plenty of free space (800GB).... I have tried to search for similar problem, but I couldn't find much help... can anyone help me out here....
Btw, when I tried to repair the volume in disk utility, it says something about incorrect allocation blocks and then says it cannot repair and I need to backup and reformat the drive or something of that sort....
I'm not sure why but whenever I go onto the internet, my wallpaper disappears and it turns blue. If I want to restore it I have to click on a different wallpaper in system preferences then click back to the one I want. Any ideas?

I have a hard drive on my 2008 MacPro that's problematic and so I bought a new drive and installed Mavericks on it and am booting just fine on the new drive. There is however, one folder in the Library/Preferences folder that I need to copy over to the new drive. All the tricks for accessing the Library folder work great on the start up drive, but I can't seem to access the Library folder on the old drive (both drives in the MacPro as it has 4 drive bays), even though the drive will mount. How can I see that Library folder on the old drive? Note while I can mount the old drive, I can't boot to it.Â

It's been running fine until a couple days ago when I turned it on and it was displaying a folder with a flashing question mark. I immediately went online to get suggestions for rememdies, but so far none of them seem to be working. When I insert the installation disc it gets recognized, but pretty much all options for reinstalling are grayed out. I hooked up my external hard drive that has my backups on it, but don't know what to do from there. Like many people, I haven't backed up my files for a few months, and there are docs in there that I'd prefer not to have to lose. I've noted that this seems to be a rather common problem.
View 29 Replies View RelatedSo I have a Black MacBook with 2gb of ram and a 160 gb hard drive. I have about 1gb left on my computer. The stuff I have that is taking up the space is all stuff that I need, I cant just dump it on to an external hard drive.
I have a problem where ocassionally I will start up my computer and instead of the apple logo showing up I see a folder with a question mark. I have to turn off the computer and let it sit and usually it will start up.
My question is, what is the cause of this problem, and what is the fix?
Is it the dangerously low amount of space?
If I upgrade the hard drive, will it fix it?
So I kinda want to explain my saga of my (late 2009) Macbook Pro.
I got the first generation of the MBP shortly after it came out.... I actually purchased it on Black Friday.
Anyhoo-
-The specs:
-15" Glossy Screen
-2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Due
-2 GB 1064 MHz DDR3
-NVIDIA GeForce 9400M
-Toshiba 250gb HDD
(So as you can see, pretty basic machine.)
Anyway, I'd only had the computer a few months when I started getting the blinking folder on startup. I brought it in, and they verified the HDD was going bad, so they gave me a new HDD. About a month later, I had the same problem happen again. The "Genius" I talked to said it was probably my Logic Board, so they replaced that. However, after getting my computer back from the shop, on my first startup, I got the blinking folder. So I TOOK it back AGAIN, and they replaced my HDD again.
A few months later, I started having issues with both the HDD not spinning up and my USB affecting my iSight camera (weird I know) so I brought it in again, and they finally just replaced my whole computer.
Everything worked great for a while, until once again, I started getting the flashing folder on startup, I took it in and they replaced my HDD again. (Yeah, this is like HDD number 3 for me now)
Since then, I have had the HDD replaced two other times, along with my superdrive, and MagSafe adapter.......I'm not exactly liked at my local Apple Store.... they know me by name... I don't exactly like going there anymore...
I also want to note that I literally baby my computer; I almost polish it daily, and am extremely careful with it
So my current list of repairs looks like this:
� 5 HDD replacements
� New Logic Board
� New Super Drive
� MagSafe adapter
� New Computer
ALL that being said, I plan to sell my computer as soon as Apple Care expires; I can't risk having a flakey computer on my hands... I can't afford to pay for all the repairs. My Apple Care will expire next December, so I'm hoping I can sell it around late December- early January and be just in time for the new MBP refresh, which I'm hoping that year will include possible:
Slight redesign
Lighter computer (in weight)
Faster (of course)
Possibly retina display
Why I'm posting all this is mainly just because I wanted to hear if anyone else has had anything similar happen to them.... I'm a sucker for when it comes to first generation Apple stuff, but now I know.
I recently installed a partition to my mac mini using BootCamp, but leaving the Windows installation til a later date as I'd left the authentication info in the studio! On booting up my mac the next day I'm greeted with a flashing missing OS symbol instead of the apple logo. I've tried resetting the mac or trying to force it to start a network startup up but to no avail.
I attempted to run from the installation disc but it isn't responding to holding don 'c' to run from the disc. However I'm running 10.5, but that was an upgrade from a colleagues disc and the only installation disc I have is 10.4. I can get that disc but may take time! The only interactivity I can get from the keyboard is upon pressing 'option' I'm asked to enter a password, but I don't know what password it's after?
I just deleted the "Startup Items" folder by accident, it's found in the "Library" folder. How do I fix this??
View 2 Replies View RelatedAnyway I got the flashing folder error, booted from the snow leopard install disc and want to get a dmg of my hd so I can recover files if possible. I get Input/output error while trying to create the dmg. I get invalid b tree node size error when verifying and I can't repair it.
Is there another way to backup at this point or salvage files without buying/using other software? I'm at college so resources are limited. I don't have a backup so it's fairly important that I can somehow recover files. Also I've tried resetting PRAM with no luck. Is the drive busted beyond repair or is there something I can do?

Every time that I start up my iMac running OS 10.7, a window from a folder within the package of a program (Steam, if you must know), opens on the desktop. This happens whether or not "Reopen Windows" is selected at shut down from the previous session. No matter what I do, the folder keeps appearing when the computer starts up and logs me in. Now a huge deal, except that it drives me crazy having to close it every single time that I turn on the computer. why this is happening and how I can remedy it?

I have a macbook a1181 that I bought used that I believe has a failed hard drive. I get the question mark folder on startup and the clicking noise. Drive doesn't show up in the utility and osx 10.4.1 says cannot install on machine. Tried all options I could find online for the question mark folder. Thought I would try to format and reinstall osx 10.4.1 (grey) that I got with laptop but it says I cannot. I'm wondering if anyone has other ideas or if I just need to buy a new drive and a new copy of the os. And if so is there a recommend drive and os I should consider?

well i just got back from vacation and I tried turning on my macbook, but it wouldn't startup. it made a clicking noise and all that appeared was a white screen and a folder with a flashing question mark inside it. I then put in the apple disk it came with and went to 'disk utility,' but it wasn't able to find my hard drive. Is there any way of retrieving the data on my hard drive, or even better, fixing my macbook? luckily, for me, my warranty just expired while I was on vacation, and I'm not able to talk to apple customer service without paying 50 bucks.
View 24 Replies View RelatedMy computger shows the flashing question mark in a folder icon upon booting just after the chime. I've been reading up all about it and am pretty clear about what actions I should take.
The very first direction that all instructions give me is to insert the Startup CD, shut down, and then restart holding down the 'C' key. The problem I'm encountering is that a little while after starting up, the computer ejects the CD, and then goes onto show the flashing question mark again. I'm pretty sure i'm inserting the correct CD as it does itself have the directions to hold down 'C' for booting from CD printed on it. I've tried the other CD which came with my MacBook too, but the same result.
I've booked a slot with a Genius on Tuesday, but does anyone have any suggestions as to why it would be ejecting the CD?
p.s I've also tried to boot in target disk mode, and although the attached PowerBook sees the harddrive in disk utility, the repair utilities are greyed out, and it doesn't see it in finder so can't access the contents.
I was with the messenger Adium on, when I left, then I came back and the keyboard was blocked, the sentences wouldn't come up when I tried to type so I decided to reboot the laptop. when it restarted the grey screen showed up as usual but instead of appearing the apple and then the desktop, there was a folder with a question mark in it instead. I put my ear on the keyboard because I could hear there was a lot of noise coming from inside which makes me think it's not something related with the software or weird downloads' stuff.
View 15 Replies View RelatedI've had my mac for about a year after someone gave it to me. I think it's pretty old, I'd say about 5 years maybe. Its using snow leopard right now. I was on safari yesterday and once I opened my email the computer froze. Mouse and everything. So I held the power button down to turn it off and when I turned it back on there was a flashing folder with a ? on it. I looked this up on google but every thing I found told me to put a disk in the computer. I can't do this because I don't have the disk and the disk drive is broken anyway.
