I just lost my pass in my mac notebook. Yey. Usually I would just use my OS X install disc to reset my password or use the "other" hacking methods found on google; but my OS X pass is also my AIM and hotmail pass >.>
I know people say not to use the same pass for different things but I can't afford to remember ten different passes. So, is there a way to find out your mac's current admin pass without actually knowing it? Can I just boot the comp up in single-user and type some funky command to do this? Plz guys, I'm really desperate and I got a lot of contacts in AIM and hotmail I would not want to lose.

Factory refurb came with Leopard already installed, didn't include disks, and never prompted me to create admin info. Really just want to install Flash... Everytime I try to install it asks me for my admin username and password. Username is always filled in as "user", but password is blank.

I am not the admin of the computer, but the admin gave me admin rights for a temporary time being, so when I went to login to my user it asked the question if i wanted to make some change or whatever, well appaerantly I clicked the wrong choice and i had the "Remember this choice" box clicked. So is there anyway to go back to change this?I have tried restarting and completely shutting down the comp, and taking admin rights off and putting them back on.

Im running 10.6.2
I just used migration assistant to transfer to my new macbook pro. When i was doing this i needed to set up a new account/user as the one already on my new macbook pro is named the same as the one i was migrating from. With me?
What i want to do is delete the ORIGINAL account and be left with the new one, i migrated over, as the sole account (bar guest account and whatever else is usually there).
I can't seem to see any option for deleting the original account, the minus option is faded out when i highlight the Original account in "Accounts" in the System Pref. window.

When I purchased my iMac a few years ago, I created one user account and just started using my computer. I am trying to implement a few Safe Computing practices by creating a new Admin user account and changing my original user account to a Standard user. Â
For some reason, I cannot change either of the accounts to a standard user after I type in the password. I've logged in as both and tried to change the other user profile to a standard user, but the checkbox is greyed out on both of the Admin User accounts.  Â
I can create a new standard user, but I have everyting set the way I like it on my current Admin user account. It would be much easier to have a new Admin User account and "Downgrade" my original Admin account to a standard user account. Â
why the option to change from an Admin user to a standard user would be "Greyed Out"? The support articles walk me through, what should be a few simple steps, but I can not change the settings because the checkbox is greyed out. Â

Yesterday, I had to re-format my external hard drive so that it could be "recordable" within Pro Tools, which wasn't a major issue, I just had to move everything from my Lacie drive to another drive, do the format, and then throw it all back on. It took a little while but this also included moving my nearly 60gb itunes library. Now that it is on the newly formatted hard drive, itunes doesn't seem to be able to find the majority of the songs any more. I've tried changing the music folder and a few other things, and there is no way I'm going through and doing the "cant find music - click here to find it" palava. Is anyone aware of a way that you can "mass find" all of the music in any way other than starting the library again and adding all the music (I don't really want to lose all of my play counts and ratings if possible!)

I am new to the mac world (first mac ever coming tomorrow probably) and I've been trying to gather as much info as possible, so I am not totally helpless when it arrives. One thing I saw somewhere (can't quite remember where it was) was a guy suggesting that users (or new users, can't remember) didn't use their admin account all the time, have your admin account apart from your day-to-day account. Is this something I should do? What are the main differences between using an account without admin privileges and one with them?

I came home today and my daughter (3) was playing games on Nickelodeons website. I noticed that she managed to download 6 .dmg files, something like 3avdi.dmg. I clicked on one and an installer came up on the desktop. I secure trashed everything. I cannot figure out for the life of me where these came from as I can only find .exe files on the Nick site.

How it happened but I basically don't have an administrative account anymore, all I have is 1 standard user. I cannot boot into single user and I do not have the install disks and I was wondering if anybody had a solution to either turn my current user into an admin or create a new admin.

I went to system preferences, and security, i turned on the firewall and repaired disk permissions, nothing helps. I still can't find a way to make it happen. It did at one point. Almost all the apps I have I got from the Apple site, I don't know if that's relevant.

My friend bought a 13" MBP (April 2010) from someone at a cheaper price, but that person didn't provide the original installation disks. I have a Snow Leopard Disc which I bought for $50 as an upgrade from Leopard. Any chance that can be used to reset the password?

I am trying to get Subversion (versioning software) installed here at work and in my research I've found it's more secure to utilize Apache2 in conjunction with Subversion. With 1.3 being default on OS X Server I used [URL] Apache2 complete package to install Apache2. The install went great and I am able to view an index.html page put in the /Library/htdocs directory or wherever that is. But I was told for our configuration of sites, we need to use Server Admin. Is there a means to user Server Admin with Apache2?

Just began using a leopard machine and needed to install server admin in order to connect to our 10.3x server. I was forced to install the 10.5 version of Server Admin (10.4 would not install). I can connect using the Workgroup Manager and am able to use the Server Monitor app. When launching Server Admin. I cannot connect - receive message that no server is available at this address -- using the static IP address of our server.

Four days ago i left my Mac at my office, because it had to be set up for being compatible with Active Directory. Now, i have got it back, but unfortunately my Mac was not able to connect with Active Directory. But even worse: My Mac is now completely out of order. When i turn my Mac on, the only profil available is called Admin (i later found out that this profile was created by the guy who tried to set up the AD). I can't find my own account in the "users" part of the system utilities, but when i search for my name in finder my whole profile shows up. Unfortunately, i can not enter the folders with my name on, because i have to type the admin code. When i do that, however, it does not work. I checked with the Mac guy and he assured me that he had not changed the password. How can i exit this stupid Admin user and enter my own? Would it help to reset the admin password (My DVD drive is broke, so i can not insert the mac os x cd)?

I have a PowerPC G3 iBook, running OS X 10.4.11, which I bought a couple of years ago from a work colleague. It works great, but I want to change my broadband provider software, and need to input the Admin password to have the software installed. I have forgotten the Administrator password, so after trawling the internet I have tried to use the install disc that came with the iBook to reset the Admin password.
The install disc is version 10.2.1, and it lets me start (by pressing the C button on restart) and access the Change Password facility. I have changed the password, saved the changes and restarted the iBook. But when I then try to install the new broadband software, the new Admin password I've just set is not recognised! I have seen posts on the internet giving instructions on how to 'hack' after restarting and pressing the Command and S button, but I'm not confident in doing this because I've also seen posts on forums where people with 10.4.11 have had LOADS of issues after doing so! Do I need to try and get a new install disc nearer to 10.4.11, or is there another solution?? I don't want to damage a perfectly good iBook!

I have tried to delete a few applications from my harddrive since upgrading to Snow Leopard. When I drag or send an app to the trash it immediately bounces back or reestablishes itself in the same location. I have noticed that a lot of the apps are locked in the Get Info pane. Unlocking makes no difference whether I can delete or not...even with an administrator password.

Just bought a second hand mac mini only to find that there was still a password protected admin account on the OS. I've tried re-installing snow leopard (by holding 'c' at start up) but it has not removed the account. I am unable to change any settings on the mac at present because I require the admin password. Does anyone know how to remove the admin account and take the mac back to factory settings?

I need to find a way to get into the admin account on my school laptop. The way I did it last was reset the PRAM and get into safemode to delete a startup file so I could make another admin account and change passwords that way. But I'm pretty sure the IT people at my school did something weird to these things. When you take the battery and L-bracket out and remove a stick of RAM and all that and hold down option+command+P+R to reset the parameter RAM, it doesn't even restart or ding. I've done this many many times last year so there's no chance I'm doing wrong. It's not just my computer that won't boot into safemode either. I'm cool with using discs, but I don't know if I'd need an admin password to use them.

I just did the latest batch of updates with Software Update, and call me crazy here, but I seem to remember it used to require an admin password to apply them, whereas now, it'll just do them right away. Is Apple winding down security here? Surely you should need the admin password to update to 10.6.5?
