When you go to a web site that requires a password, Mac asks if it can remember the password. If the answer is yes you are then stuck with it. How can I change the password that Mac remembers?
View 2 RepliesMy MB Pro has 1 user login, it's never been changed, re-created, etc.I can login to the laptop no problem, I can goto the User control panel and change the PW and it shows the single user as the admin.However I can't install software. It comes up and asks me for the password which is then rejected.Beyond reloading the OS not sure what options are. Did a permissions repair but no other luck.

when i search something in the website bar (the bar of the website URL) why does it search on bing, i want to change the search engine to google but i don't know how. when i change the settings in preferences it only changes the websites for tabs and homepage. how do i change it from bing to google? i have a macbook pro, fully updated,. the problem is on safari.

I'm currently locked out of my Power Mac G5. While trying to install the latest Java for Mac OS x 10.5 Update 6 from Software Update, my admin. password was rejected as invalid. When I try to change my password in Accounts, my old password is rejected. I've entered this password a thousand times, and, yeah, I'm slightly senile, but caps lock isn't on.

They backed my new laptop up with my old hard drive so now i got my old stuff on the new one. I want to download this application so i can fix this .zip file but i need the admin password. I've tried using the install discs but they tell me to enter the admin. I've tried putting the install disc in and pushing c on start up but it just freezes on the white screen with the apple. Is there something wrong with my computer? should i contact the insurance company who i dealt with?

I have always used PCs where I worked and now that I am retired, I purchased a beautiful 27" iMac (2.7GHz, Quad Core i5, 16GB memory, Lion OS X) and I absolutely love it! I have the original Tiger Install DVD, I put it in, restart, pressing C, etc., but the install DVD doesn't run and I just end up at the login screen. He also had an iBook G4 and I used the same trick to change the admin password - it worked just fine. Does anyone know why pressing C isn't starting up the install disk? Its the original.
ALSO: I've read of a workaround using the single-user password reset option that goes as follows:
- start computer pressing Command-S
- sh /etc/rc
- password 'Uncle Paul'
- enter a new password twice
- reboot
I'm afraid to do it though, because I need to gain access to my uncle's files before I reinstall. My parents insist of getting all his pictures and stuff (he was also writing his autobiography.) Will doing the above Command-S measure mess with any of his files?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI initially tried the normal System Preferences/ Users and Groups approach, unlocked the window, entered my existing password, entered my new password twice...got this...obviously I have edited the image to remove my name...
Recovery mode using Lion results in a very similar message, a box pops up, etc. No go .So I try to reset the Admin password to have a new Admin login which results in the "starting a new machine" screens, etc., so I can then change MY password, etc using this... Boot single user and enter rm /var/db/.AppleSetupDone But the system reports it cannot find the file or directory. So I login as Administrator (I have this password) and using the GUI, the option to change MY password is not showing. So I login as root (I also have this password) and using the GUI, again, there is no option to change MY password. As I upgraded/App Store via the network I do not have a disk to boot from.I do have Time Machine backups, so the notion of restoring Apps and personal files and folders after a complete reinstall is not that hideous, though I have better things to do like most of you. But really, isn't there a way for me to change my password using the GUI?
