OS X :: Unable To Connect To Time Capsule On Desktop
Aug 29, 2008
I'm working on a Tiger OS and I cannot connect to my time capsule. I followed instructions in the manual, but I simply do not see Time Capsule on my desktop, and there is very little info in the manual. I am working off of ethernet, not airport, and would prefer to used ethernet for the moment. I have it connected via LAN port to my macbook pro. There's only one ethernet port on my computer. Does anyone have any advice? I know about about Macs, but dont have much experience with network specs.

I have a dual band time capsule working wirelessly with 3 macs all intel (24 iMac, mbp 13, mb 13) with no issues. I was trying to connect a 17" flat panel G4 to the same wireless network on the time capsule and it fails to see the network.
When I type in the network name and password (WPA) it comes back with "encryption method not supported by the wireless network". Although all the others macs are working on this same network using the same encryption, the old iMac refuses to play nice. Is there something else I've overlooked?

I recently purchased a Time Capsule to use as a wireless hard drive. I connect to the internet both through wifi and ethernet to a educational network that does not allow extra routers, etc, to be added to the network, therefore I can not use the time capsule for this wifi.
I therefore want to connect to my early 2009 MBP17unibody to both the academic internet network for http/pop3/ftp/etc while simultaneously connecting to external hard drive to store data/itunes-library/etc.
I expect this has been asked before but I can't find any threads where it has. If anyone knows it would be highly helpful. I'd prefer to connect to both wirelessly but I could potentially put up with connecting to either or both with ethernet.

I have a time capsule and a MacBook Air for the last number of months. Both had been working perfectly and even when my neighbour came over with his MacBook, we could quite easily network between the two computers and connect the two to the internet via the time capsule... Furthermore my MacBook air backed up regularly to the time capsule using time machine without a problem.
Problem. I got a new iMac and uploaded an imprint of my MacBook account and data onto it from the time capsule. I now cannot connect the two computers to the time capsule simultaneously, cannot network between them or cannot have both connected to the internet at the same time.. Furthermore, neither will back up to the time capsule using time machine. Very frustrating, because I know that it is something very simple causing this, but I am new enough to Mac and cannot resolve.

Quick question lads, I use my Time Capsule to back up my MBP and PC (sorry!). It works will for the MBP but does not for PC. It takes way too long over Ethernet for some reason.
My question is, can I back up the pc by connecting the time capsule via USB with something like this

Searched and couldn't find a solution, so here's my problem. I've got a network setup trough a 1TB Time Capsule, ~18 months old. 2 MB's and one MBP on the network, and also a Samsung CLP-315W color laser printer (wireless connection, not USB). Everything has always worked well. I just bought a Canon CP800 compact photo printer for my wife and would like to connect it through the TC's USB port, for wireless iPhoto printing from her MB.
The printer shows it's connected to the TC, according to its built-in LCD screen, and the printer shows up in any of the laptop printer setup utility screens. The latest Canon driver has been installed, and the printer works properly as long as it's hardwired to any of the laptop USB ports, but not through the TC connection. Here's the error screen which appears when trying to complete the "add printer" process through the TC's USB port.

I am planning on buying a Time Capsule (Old version) but before that, I want to know if it is possible to connect it to my current router and set it up to 5Ghz only? Because since I would have two router I would like to set up one on 2.4Ghz for my ipod and other "G" devices and the TC on 5Ghz for my macbook only. Or do I have to get the new one for the Dual Band connection?

Basically I have a PS3 (silm, if that matters), and a Time Capsule connected to my router via ethernet , and Im using the TC as the network, called "PamaJama". Basically it connects fine when I connect via ethernet, but when I try to use it wirelessly, "PamaJama" doesent show up. And When I go to put it in manually, it doesnt ask for a name... I know the password is a WPA2 Personal, and that doesent come up as a catagorie either. If I where to change the password to a WEP, would it show up? If yes, how do i do that? and if no, do you know what I have to do to get it to connect wirelesly? I can always just leave it connected via ethernet but I would love for it to connect wirelessly so i could play it up in my room.

My time capsule shows up in finder under shared devices but when I click on it and it tries to connect it says 'connection failed' this is annoying. As I would like to access the external hard drive that I have connected to it. I am having no problems at all doing scheduled backups to the TC via time machine.

I have a 2006 Intel iMac (Running 10.6.1)that is not seeing my wireless routers (D-Link 628 and Time Capsule Dual-channel). The D-Link is downstairs. It is not in the best place, but at my only option. My Macbook Pro sees the D-link fine on the same desk as the iMac. I replaced the D-Link with the Time Capsule and the iMac doesn't even see that. If I bring it close (completely underneath the desk) to the iMac it will see both routers. The weird part is before a hard drive crash and replacement it worked fine (I know, I know something is amiss from the replacement).

When I live at my brother's house, I connect to my brother's network which gives me wireless internet. Is it possible for my TC to, instead of being plugged in directly to his router with an ethernet cord, pick up his network's wireless internet and output it on it's own network?
In case that question makes no sense, what I want to do is connect to my TC's network (so I have access to the hard drive) but still get my brother's internet connection.

Our company is currently running an Apple Time Capsule that has ~40 users wirelessly connecting to it. Now we recently opened up a new office space that will potentially have more than 50 users that need to connect to our network.
Seeing this we then purchased a Linksys WRT610N wireless router so that we can facilitate more than 50 wireless users. My question therefore is: how do we set this up so that the Linksys router connects to the TC so that we will subsequently be connected to the Internet as well as our network - no matter what SSID (TC or Linksys) we're on. I've been bearing about bridge modes and WAN ports but this is new to us so a brief explanation/procedure would be appreciated.
Keep in mind that we would like to keep the TC as our main router with the Linksys connected to that as well as increase the TC limit of the 50-user connectivity limit.

My Windows XP desktop will connect flawlessly to my Time Capsule when I turn off all wireless security. I am even able to use Airport Utility on the desktop to change the wireless security to WPA/WPA2 Personal.
However, it is never able to connect wirelessly to the Time Capsule when WPA/WPA2 Personal is being utilized. The Airport Utility cannot locate the Time Capsule when WPA/WPA2 Personal is utilized.

My Time Capsule and PC (Windows XP) communicate well wirelessly. I am able to access the internet and use AirPort Utility to change settings on the Time Capsule if needed.
However, I have NOT been able to perform a backup on my PC yet. I am not able to access the Driver and don't really know what to do to fix it.
Under the "Network Drivers" section, the PC says that it is a "Disconnected Network Drive", and when I try to open it up, it says "Logon failure: unknown user name or bad password".
Reading other threads, I've already checked and verified that the PC and the T.Capsule are using the same Workgroup name. I am not sure that I have Bonjour loaded on my PC. Is it necessary?

Just replaced a 500 gb time capsule with a new dual band 1 tb time capsule (first one died). My iMac, ipods, ps3 and wii all can connect to the network and work great. My wife's HP laptop, which worked fine 3 days ago, isn't connecting well. It picks up the "excellent" signal to connect to the local network made by the time capsule, but can not connect to the bigger internet. In other words, no browsing, email...etc. the signal is "excellent, and all other devices in the house can "see" and use the internet

I'm currently staying in university residence where our internet access is all through wireless access point through the building; in this environment, is it possible to setup a time capsule such that it connects wirelessly to the nearest access point and then allows me to connect to it (the TC) wirelessly or by ethernet (then get an address by DHCP in the TC or the access point)? I was hoping to use the TC as a backup for my imac and macbook, as well as a mounting point for drives I plug into it but thus far haven't been able to come up with anything that works ideally (i.e. tried connecting all my stuff to the access point but the backup worked way too slow over 802.11g to do anything realistically when its shared among many other people).

I have a Time Capsule providing a wireless network in my home. I would like use my Airport Express to create an additional network, and have it get its internet from one of the wired ethernet ports on the TC. Can you daisy chain them like that? I tried it and so far I haven't been able to get it to work.
Hopefully that makes sense. I'm not trying to set up a WDS with the TC and the Express, I'm trying to plug the Express into one of the ethernet connections on the TC so the Express can share that internet connection as a new, separate network (like what you would do if you had the Express in a hotel room, etc).
I have the Express set up to create a network, and my computer can connect to it, but the internet's not available for some reason. Should I expect this to be able to work?

I have a network that is made of up a Time capsule as a base station and 3 airport express's used to extend my wifi coverage. It is setup as a roaming network with each express hardwired to the base time capsule. I have a iMac that will not connect to the base station, it will only connect to one of the remote express's. The iMac is next to the base satation. Other mac notebooks, iPhone or iPads all connect to the base station when they are near it. Only my iMac will not connect to it.

I had a Macbook Air 11 latest version which I just sold. Now I have a Mac Pro 13 with a normal 750GB Disk. I did a complete restore of the last Time Capsule back up from the Air to the Pro. After this was completed I installed Lion latest release over the restored installation. Now everything is running but I still have the impression, that the pro is much slower than the Air - I guess one thing is the difference of performance between SSD and normal disks. But still the Pro has much more CPU power, right?
is there any chance, that through the restore procedure I did, the Pro hardware could have been corrupted as the backup did not match the target machine (Air to Pro)? Is there any way to check of the hardware is working as designed? I have been reading in the communities about the AHT tool, but I can not locate it on Lion, the "D" key has no effect and I have no Leopard Disks containing AHT...

So to preface my problem let me just say that ive got my own macbook which works on the same wireless network with no faults at all, so i assume its not an error with the networking hardware. For xmas i bought my parents a macbook, recently (not sure how recently as theyve only just told me its happening) they can be browsing the web then all of a sudden the internet takes ages to load, it stalls on 'trying to connect' for a long time (40+ for each web page).
Ive tried using firefox and the same thing happens so it looks like its not safari specific, during this time i cannot ping google.com through a terminal either or if i can the response time is unbelievably slow. Now, ive tried disabling ipv6, ive set the dns servers to opendns and none of this has fixed it. if i click on the airport utility and turn it off and the back on it fixes the problem for a short period of time before it happens again.

I am planning on purchasing a mac mini solely for the purpose of playing music - it will be hooked up to a hi-fi amplifier and speakers. All of the music that will be on the computer will be in lossless format, which is very large. I will need a lot (320+ GB?) of storage.
I'm wondering if I can cut costs by buying an old 80 GB mini and augmenting its hard drive with a time capsule. I was planning on buying a time capsule anyway, so I could save something like $300. My questions are: would I be able to stream music from the time capsule to the mac mini? Would I be able to import music from itunes directly onto the time capsule? If I hook the mini up to the time capsule via USB, can it serve as a hard-drive, even if my internet is down? Is it going to be much more worth my time to buck up and buy a new 320 GB mini?
