MacBook Pro :: How To Make System Run Faster
I bought the Macbook Pro 2.53 in November. I came from windows because i wanted a higher quality laptop and to be much faster. Initial Impressions were wow this is fast! After about a month my opinions change. I never though a $2800 Laptop that is 3 months old could be so SLOW! It doesnt process the internet well and just going through lite surfing on the internet it takes forever to go from site to site and i see the blue circle on a regular basis. MacBook Air :: Is There Way To Make Internet Connections Work Faster?
My wife has a Macbook and I have the MB Air and we are both running off Time Capsule. Many times when we are both using the internet it becomes a crawl, especially if TC is backing up or we are trying to use Mail or trying to view something on a web site. I have seen some software out there that claims to speed things up and makes the connection work more efficiently. Does anyone have experience with this? The one recommended to me was IPNetrouterX which has good reviews but is very expensive. Information: MacBook Air 1.6 Mac OS X (10.5.5) 2 GB memory

MacBook Aluminum :: Slow Internet Loading - Any Way To Make It Faster?
I bought a new Macbook 3 weeks ago at the Apple store. I am a long-time pc user who took the Apple plunge mostly because I am sick of getting viruses all the time. Unfortunately, I am pretty disappointed with the speed of the Internet and really slow loading of websites--especially business websites (CNN, WAMU, Citibank, WSJ, etc.) It's not my wireless internet connection because I did a side-by-side test. I sat on my couch with my 4 year old Dell pc and the new Macbook and went to the same websites at exactly the same time. My old Dell was always faster loading each website and in some business-related or video-related sites, about 35-55 seconds faster. Is there anyway to make the apple load websites faster or is slow internet just the price I have to pay to be virus-free? Information: Macbook Mac OS X (10.5.6)

OS X :: Make Safari Faster?
I did work out that one reason I don't get anywhere close to the so called 8-9 h battery life on my i5 MBP is that I use Opera as my Browser. Even though I force the Intel GPU it seems with Safari the battery estimate looks a lot better (still only at minimum Brightness it reaches 8-9h and never on 50% birghtness as Apple says). But since I only use the Touchpad and not a mouse to control the Browser I thought that the more important stuff Safari should be able to do too at least as a mobile browser. I put some gestures in BetterTouchTool (same as for Opera). (i.e. single tiptap for back and forward, twofinger tiptab to switch tabs, threefingerswipe up/down to open and close tabs, in short I imitate the mouse gestures I am used to. a. What is the best way to port my bookmarks? And (optional) is there any reasonable way for syncing? I use Opera Link for all my different PCs, OSs and it works brilliantly because all I have to do after a reinstall is typ in name and password and everything is setup in seconds. I never used mobile me and do not really intend to do so, as it costs and I don't benefit from any family license, and I don't feel the need for any other mobile me feature. It is simply a little overpriced for simple syncronisation. b. How do I change(not add) short cuts? I found a page for all the safari short cuts and there are many of them. I don't really like some of them though. One of the reasons I think Opera is superior to most other browser are the single key short cuts. They are off by default because they would most likely confuse anybody who doesn't know about them but they make everything more efficient. The most important being all though it is a default setting and not really a single key short cut is the . instead of CMD+F and Enter instead of CMD+J. And I'd like some single key for CMD+G. I don't know how to change it in Safari and if I change it globally somehow it probably wouldn't work, because it is important for this kind of shortcuts to differntiate between a I am just writing something state and the I am not typing anything but want to control the browser state. It is my understanding only the browser can really do that. The reason is simple and being that it works so much faster. In Opera with mouse gestures you can do almost anything with the mouse and never have to lift a finger to get most things done where Safari often needs a cmd+click or whatever. And you can navigate expecially big sites faster than they are loaded only by keyboard. Press "." some String and Enter to get to a certain menu item and klick it. CMD+F a String CMD+J is as weird as it may sound to some, just worlds slower. It gets even worse if you only have one hand free to do the same task. I truly never really understood this whole speed thing with browser because loading speed is rarely an issue if you have a fast connection. IMO it is all about the time you need to get to where you want to be. c. code/abreviation/shortcuts for search engines? That should be fairly easy because you can easily teach it to Firefox, but I don't know how. In Opera again only stupid people use this search box. The one you click and select a search engine and than typ something and press enter. Most people just use a short cut for the search engine and typ in the normal address bar. Like you typ "maps London" and it opens google maps and zooms to London. The same works for pretty much anything and is brilliant because you can search in the german and english wikipedia by only slightly different short cuts. It is slow to first having to use the mouse to select the search engine, then go back to the keyboard and typ something. Who does that? In fact with out this search box nonsense you get a real simple gui. I have the fit to width button and the address field and thats all you really need in Opera. In FF you can go to manage your searches and put codes in and works the same as in Opera. It is more difficult to set up but it works. I guess in Safari it should work too and Safari would give me about an extra hour of battery life or more as the estimate is telling me when I CMD+Q Opera. No Idea what Opera is doing when it ain't doing anything.

Software :: Parallels 6 To Run 40% Faster/launch Windows 2x Faster Than Fusion
Parallels is expected to announce as early as Thursday the sixth major upgrade to its Windows virtualization software for Mac OS X, delivering a significant performance boost over its predecessor, as well as 80 other new features. The new Parallels Desktop 6 for Mac has been shown on average to run 40 percent faster than last year's edition, according to people familiar with the matter. Those same people said that the upgrade -- expected to retail for the same $79.99 price as its predecessor -- will also feature Windows boot times that are roughly two times faster than version 3.1 of its primary competitor: VMWare Fusion. VMware and Parallels have gone head to head in the virtualization market since 2008, when the Fusion product was first introduced. Parallels has existed since 2006, and both products retail for an identical prices. In a recent study, Parallels 5 was already found to be 30 percent faster on average than VMware Fusion 3. Parallels 6 is also expected to showcase tighter integration with its users' natural environment, adopting support for the Mac OS X's keyboard shortcuts, Spotlight search engine, and Expose windows management features. Similarly, the upgrade will offer the option to automatically apply a Mac's parental controls to their corresponding Windows applications, according to those familiar with the product. Another major focus for Parallels is said to be gaming. Version 6.0 will reportedly deliver up to two-fold performance improvements while adding support for Dolby 5.1 surround sound and better handling of 3G environments. Parallels 6 will sport compatibility with an enhanced Parallels Mobile application that will offer users the option of remotely accessing their virtual machines on an iPad, as well as an iPhone or iPod touch. Parallels Transporter, previously a standalone application that allowed users to migrate a virtual PC image to the Mac, will come built into the new release as well. Earlier this week, Parallels Desktop 6 was spotted on the shelves of a Fry's Electronics store in California. The product has not yet been formally announced.[ View this article at AppleInsider.com ]

MacBook Air :: Make Direct Ethernet Connection To Run Migration Assistant
I'm waiting for delivery of my new 11in MacBook Air and am getting all my ducks in a row for installation. Is it possible to make a direct ethernet cable connection between my MacBook Pro and the Air (I have a USB/ethernet adaptor) in order to run Migration Assistant? I could migrate over the network but I recently had some glitches where the donor machine would suddenly lose connection and I had to start all over again. Mac Safari :: Safari Can't Find Server - Have An Internet Connection?
After upgrading to the new Safari 4.0 I have been having random connection outages that last about 5 minutes before the issue repairs itself. What happens is, despite me being connected to the internet and other programs actively downloading files/mail messages, I displays a message that it cannot connect to the server of any site. It is completely random and has nothing to do with my router, it is most defintley something on my mac. It is ubsurdly frustrating because I will click a read link then the message will display and I will have to wait 5 minutes before I can open a webpage. Same thing happens occasionally on FireFox but not nearly as bad as on Safari. All this leads me to beleive it is something with my TCP/IP settings but on a mac i have no idea how to reset those all like I can on a windows.

Software :: Safari Can't Make A Secure Connection?
For several of the accounts on my iMac, I've set parental controls to "try and limit access to adult content" When I do this, Safari stops being able to access "https" websites such as gmail.com etc. If I set the parental controls setting to "unrestricted access" the problem goes away. I don't want the kids to have "unlimited acess" but I do want to let them access "https" sites as appropiate. I've seen several old threads on this subject, but nothing so far that I could find related to it being caused by the parental controls or how to fix it. I'm running OS X 10.6.3 on an iMac quad core. I'm also very new to the Mac world (6 month) so I'm pretty much at the beginner level.

MacBook :: False (No Internet Connection) Message On Firefox And Safari
So, I just did the update last night, and I think after that my internet stopped working. It was late, so I just went to sleep. This morning, I wake up and open Firefox. Internet not working. Even though I know it won't work, I open my remote desktop connection and try to log on to my work computer using the WiFi in my apartment. Well, for some reason that worked. I am typing this message right now through a remote connection, but using the same WiFi that firefox and safari tell me that is no internet connections when I try to open it up from my computer. To make it even weirder, I opened quicken on my computer here and tried to download transactions, and not only did it download them, but it took me to the actual bank site and I could navigate all over it. But when I tried to go to a different website, it did the exact same thing and stalled out again. How can I use this internet connection to log on remotely and use the internet remotely, but on local programs, it tells me I have no internet connection?

OS X Tiger :: Mail And Safari Unable To Connect To The Internet But Connection Is Live?
I have a Quicksilver G4 running OSX 10.4.11 with Safari 3.0.4 and Mail 2.1.3, connected to the Internet via Ethernet and a BT home Hub setup. Recently the Mac refused to connect to the Internet although a PC connected to the same hub did. I tested the connection with a laptop and found the cable to be fine and a good connection. I ran system diagnostics which tells me the Mac is connected to the Internet and the connection is fine - except that Mail no longer sends or receives mail, and Safari tells me I am not connected to the Internet. I've tried every test I can think of - the connection appears fine as far as the ethernet cable, Network Diagnostics state that I have a good connection, yet neither application will connect to the server. I have changed no software in years other than Apple updates, and this is the first problem in many months of trouble-free usage. Information: G4 1.25 QuickSilver Mac OS X (10.4.11)

MacBook Pro :: Wireless Connection - Safari Cannot Connect To Internet For 5 - 10 Minutes
I bought my 13 inch macbook pro 1 week ago and I've had wireless connection problems from day 2 (I think after the updates). Problems include: Safari cannot connect to the internet for 5~10 minutes after I turn it on, whether it be from sleep mode or completely off or restart (the fastest connection I got after turning it on was about 40 seconds) Loading takes ridiculously long and eventually Safari cannot find the server Airport signal (on the top right hand corner) is always full when it is not working Sometimes internet works but it is ridiculously slow However, when the wireless connection stabilizes, Airport Signal is 2~3 bars full and internet works SOOO well and I love it so much when it does. But the problem is that it stabilizes like 30 minutes to never after I turn it on and it makes me so mad I want to explode this piece of crap in the microwave. So I've called apple support, and they made me try four things: 1. Reset modem, router, and computer 2. Delete caches, reset Safari 3. Putting Airport first on the Service Order and resetting DHCP Lease 4. Connecting with Ethernet Cable then resetting the computer..............
