I'm not a developer so I haven't had any experience with Leopard builds. Can anyone who had the privilege of trying it out tell me how computer units are handled? Specifically, I'm talking about definition of kilo/mega/... prefixes and 10^3 vs. 2^10 mixups that make harddrives / usb sticks / optical media appear smaller than they actually are, etc.
My guess would be everything is still the same, because fixing this would probably be mentioned somewhere and because we have been using units incorrectly for a while now (frankly most other operating systems haven't fixed this either, so I'm not expecting much), but still it's better to ask .
At the moment I have 2 MBAs at home and the displays are different. My first MBA had some build issues. So I called apple and they just sent me a second MBA. The second MBA's display lighting is much brighter especially at the edge of the screen. So the colours are worse and the black is not black any more. So I'm not sure what to do: I want the screen of my first MBA and the build quality of the second one

With a Time Capsule I am able to get 15-18 MB / sec via the WiFi, but the Airport Express, even though it has the same Air-capabilities, is limited to around 11 MB / sec through its Ethernet port. I hope they will get upgraded with Gigabit soon, I will replace all in my household. Is there any info on when it might happen?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a time capsule at home and I am thinking about hooking up a hard drive to my network at work for time machine. Can my computer use time machine on both units? I'm sure incremental backups wont be saved on both. For example if I make two changes to a file at work and then go home. I wouldnt be able to go back to those two changes, but it would have the original from a older backup right?
First of all, Noob imac owner here. I was just handed down an old imac g3 400mhz desktop that doesn't power at all. When hitting the power button on the unit or keyboard, the units screen makes a noise. No hard drive or green light comes on at all. At dead silence in the room, i can hear the screen flicker, like a tv would come on. I went to go about and read a few problems before, replaced the battery and even tried a new power cord. Any Ideas?
View 2 Replies View RelatedSo my last project - the first one on my new 3.2 octo with 20 GB RAM - and I'm getting out of memory errors in FCP. I thought at first it was a permissions or bad preferences problem, but it turns out that I actually pushed Final Cut too far and it exceeded it's 4GB RAM limit. does anyone have any info from Apple about when they might upgrade FCP to use more RAM?

I have the first generation macbook with the intel processor, and I was wondering why there is a limit on the amount of RAM I can put in? I have maxed it out to 2gb at the moment, and whilst I don't desperately need 4gb, i would be nice to have a faster macbook if I wanted one.

I have read there is something built into OSX that can do this at the command line level (ipfw or something?)
I'm going to upgrade my Core Duo Macbook Pro in the next few days with a new 320gb HDD. My external disk for which also includes my Time Machine Backup is only 250GB. Obviously one is larger than the other, will this cause a problem? If so is it possible for me to put a limit on how much space Time Machine can take up?
If for example I tell it to exclude /System and /Library from the backup can I still in future when install a fresh copy of OS X, restore from a Time Machine backup?
Does the power mac g4 have the 128 gb hard drive limit? if it does how do i get around it
View 8 Replies View RelatedJust a quick question. I know when upgrading the RAM on my macbook, even if I put in 4BG it would only use 3.6 or something like that. Is there anything like this when upgrading the hard drive? Can I put in as many GB of hard drive memory as I want or has apple put limitations on that as well?

Not that it will make much difference in my decision, but does anyone know if the 8GB RAM limit in the current MBPs is due to the fact that the largest currently-available DIMMs that will fit in the MBP are 4GB each; or if it's due to a limitation in the way the computer/chipset addresses the memory? In other words, once someone develops an 8GB DIMM that will fit in the MBP's slots, will it be possible to upgrade to 12 or 16GB of RAM?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI've had a 1tb western digital hard drive for over a year. In which time I've used it to capture hours upon hours of hdv footage through fcp on my old macbook, with out any problems.
However I have recently bought a brand new imac and when I tried to set the same hdd as my scratch disk, in fcp, a msg comes up saying "The selected disk is formatted using FAT32 which has a 4gb file size limit." And sure enough when i try to copy a file which has a size greater than 4gb on to the drive "the operation can't be completed because an unexpected error occured (error code 0)" pops up!!
i have a mac book pro ( 15 inch, 2.4ghz, late 08)
the memory limit is 4 GB. Is this an OS limit which will be blown away with snow leopard, or is it a hardware limit, which will remain regardless of 64bit OS?
other MBPs have 6 or 8GB limits, which makes me think they may be hardware related
I'm the administrator of my computer, but I want to create an account similar to the guest account, one which does not have access to my own home folder, files, etc. Unlike the guest account, I don't want all the files and preferences to be deleted upon logging out.
Pretty much a separate account, completely unrelated to the administrator account.
Is this possible?
I've searched a lot about MacBook (not Pro) overheating. I found some cooling pads, but i'm not certain if I need it.
So, my question is: from which temperature should I start to get anxious?
I've set up boot camp before and i know I've heard of other people using MacOSx, Windows, and LInux all on one HD with different partitions, but will the Mac have a limit to how many partitions I can have on one HD? I think i wanna run 4 OS's on one HD; OSX, WinXP-SP2, Windows7 Beta, and some Linux/Unix(maybe Free BSD or something cheap).

View 6 Replies View RelatedI recently upgraded my MBP's HDD and RAM. The HDD upgrade from 200GB 5400 to 320GB 7200 when great, however, I installed 4GB of matched RAM and only 3GB show up. The sticks are 2GB DDR2 667MHz. When I install 3GB (1GB & 2GB Sticks), only 2GB show up. I understand some MBP's have a 3GB limit, however, Apple told me the limit on my MBP is 4GB's. I also tried 2 different brands of 4GB sticks (2X2GB)

You may be thinking, what am I doing? Composing a 13 hour song?
I just have some files with time stamps on them and a few say they go beyond my project end. I'm hoping there's a setting where I can extend the limit.

I am looking for a way to limit bandwidth per application under Mac OS X Lion ; either with a dedicated app or Terminal command.
I didnt find any tools with Google or App Store : does that mean "limiting bandwith" is a *bad* idea ?

I have to run a C program on terminal as fast as possible. However, there seems to be a cpu usage limit for the terminal, the program supose to run around 15 seconds on a linux machine with similar configuration where cpu usage is at 85-95%. But, it runs one minute on my macbook pro with cpu usage less than 15%. Finally, my question is, how do I utilize all of the 85% idle cpu for this program or at least most of the idle cpu?

I have a Mac mini at home and at work. I have iCloud. When I first logged into my home computer using Back to My Mac, it was kind of a shocker to have complete access to everything. That's not what I want. I just want access to one folder (which I called Inbox) into which I can drop documents so that I don't have to take a USB drive home with me. My document needs are just one way sending documents home (I'll file them appropriately when I get home). The added benefit is that if anyone cracks my iCloud password they can access only that one folder. Is there a way to limit access to just one folder? I tried adding my Inbox folder in Sharing in System Preferences but all that does is list that folder along with the volumes when I log into Back to My Mac from work.

The specifications, for MacBook Pro, mention that the operating temperature is 10 to 35 Deg C. Does it mean that MacBook Pro will not function above 35 Deg C? Is it recommended to operate MacBook Pro always in an air-conditioned environment? As I plan to buy for the 1st time, I seek an answer.

I just tried to save a file with a rather long name. I got an error message that said I could not use filenames longer than 31 characters, I seem to remember that before I got this computer (iMac 21.5"), I used to have longer filenames than 31 characters! Is my memory faulty or is the operating system, "Mavericks" 10.9.3 deficient in this area, also?
