Mac Pro :: FCP 4GB RAM Limit - Out Of Memory

Mar 27, 2008

So my last project - the first one on my new 3.2 octo with 20 GB RAM - and I'm getting out of memory errors in FCP. I thought at first it was a permissions or bad preferences problem, but it turns out that I actually pushed Final Cut too far and it exceeded it's 4GB RAM limit. does anyone have any info from Apple about when they might upgrade FCP to use more RAM?

MacBook :: Is There A Memory Limit

Sep 8, 2009

Just a quick question. I know when upgrading the RAM on my macbook, even if I put in 4BG it would only use 3.6 or something like that. Is there anything like this when upgrading the hard drive? Can I put in as many GB of hard drive memory as I want or has apple put limitations on that as well?

OS X :: Using 4GB Memory Limit With Snow Leopard?

Jul 8, 2009

i have a mac book pro ( 15 inch, 2.4ghz, late 08)

the memory limit is 4 GB. Is this an OS limit which will be blown away with snow leopard, or is it a hardware limit, which will remain regardless of 64bit OS?

other MBPs have 6 or 8GB limits, which makes me think they may be hardware related

I read in another post here that the new all-flash memory is only good for about 100,000 saves, or 5 years for the average computer user. Is this really true?  It seems silly to promote using hardware that puts such a limit on the user..

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Change A User's Stack Memory Limit Setting?

May 1, 2012

Is there any way that the default stack memory limit for a user in Mac OS X Lion?  You can you ulimit in Terminal.app to display information, you cannot change any values.

This is what is returned from ulimit when you try to change the stack memory size.

user@MacbookPro:~$ ulimit -s 81920

-bash: ulimit: stack size: cannot modify limit: Operation not permitted

Also, the default value is 8192KB which is approx. 8MB.  That is weak, especially on my 2011 iMac with 16GB of RAM.  I mainly do scientific programming on my Mac (Fortran).  These programs usually require a larger stack size.  One option is to allocate data to the heap but that is very slow.

OS X :: Hard Drive Memory Disappearing / Memory Reducing At Startup

I have a iMac DV G3/500 (Special Edition) from summer 2000. Anyway, I am using Mac OS 10.2.8. Recently, my start up disk's memory has gone done from 1.2 GB available free space to 668MB (currently). I haven't saved anything on this disk so I can not understand why this memory has dissappeared. I have also had icons on the start up menu disappear. Could someone please tell me how I can restore the missing memory?

OS X :: Adding Memory And Then Running The Memory Utility Application?

Mar 21, 2009

I just bought a early 2009 MAC Pro and it came with 3GB of RAM, I ordered 3 2GB sticks of memory to replace the 3 1GB sticks that I had in there from Kingston. I turned off the unit, I popped the little levers and pulled the memory out of slot 1, 2, 3 and then replaced the memory with the new Kingston in slot 1, 2, 3

One of the sticks in is not working at all and I get the RED LED light no matter what slot I move that chip to. So I am running on 2 of the new Kingston memory chips.

Can I mix the memory and add the 1GB into slot 3 and 4 with slot 1 and 2 full of 2GB chips?

Also how to I run the memory utility again? I went to /system/Library/CoreServices/ and then I see the program Memory Slot Utility.app

How do I run this? I'm used to no spaces and I type ./then program name

MacBook :: Why The Limit On RAM?

This is pretty much what the title states... I have the first generation macbook with the intel processor, and I was wondering why there is a limit on the amount of RAM I can put in? I have maxed it out to 2gb at the moment, and whilst I don't desperately need 4gb, i would be nice to have a faster macbook if I wanted one.

Obviously one is larger than the other, will this cause a problem? If so is it possible for me to put a limit on how much space Time Machine can take up?

If for example I tell it to exclude /System and /Library from the backup can I still in future when install a fresh copy of OS X, restore from a Time Machine backup?

MacBook Pro :: Physical RAM Limit In MBP?

Dec 15, 2009

I'm planning to upgrade my 17" MPB soon (trying to hold on for Arrandale, but we'll see how the old one holds up). Not that it will make much difference in my decision, but does anyone know if the 8GB RAM limit in the current MBPs is due to the fact that the largest currently-available DIMMs that will fit in the MBP are 4GB each; or if it's due to a limitation in the way the computer/chipset addresses the memory? In other words, once someone develops an 8GB DIMM that will fit in the MBP's slots, will it be possible to upgrade to 12 or 16GB of RAM?

I've had a 1tb western digital hard drive for over a year. In which time I've used it to capture hours upon hours of hdv footage through fcp on my old macbook, with out any problems.

However I have recently bought a brand new imac and when I tried to set the same hdd as my scratch disk, in fcp, a msg comes up saying "The selected disk is formatted using FAT32 which has a 4gb file size limit." And sure enough when i try to copy a file which has a size greater than 4gb on to the drive "the operation can't be completed because an unexpected error occured (error code 0)" pops up!!

OS X :: Limit File Access Between Accounts?

I'm the administrator of my computer, but I want to create an account similar to the guest account, one which does not have access to my own home folder, files, etc. Unlike the guest account, I don't want all the files and preferences to be deleted upon logging out.

Pretty much a separate account, completely unrelated to the administrator account.

Is this possible?

Logic Studio / Pro :: How To Set The Project End Limit

Aug 1, 2010

I know you can drag the right 'bracket' on the bar ruler or you can type in a value in the transport under the tempo. But on my system, I can only get it to bar 21601 and no further.

You may be thinking, what am I doing? Composing a 13 hour song?

I just have some files with time stamps on them and a few say they go beyond my project end. I'm hoping there's a setting where I can extend the limit.

ICloud :: Back To Mac / Limit To One Folder

Apr 22, 2012

I have a Mac mini at home and at work. I have iCloud. When I first logged into my home computer using Back to My Mac, it was kind of a shocker to have complete access to everything. That's not what I want. I just want access to one folder (which I called Inbox) into which I can drop documents so that I don't have to take a USB drive home with me. My document needs are just one way sending documents home (I'll file them appropriately when I get home). The added benefit is that if anyone cracks my iCloud password they can access only that one folder. Is there a way to limit access to just one folder? I tried adding my Inbox folder in Sharing in System Preferences but all that does is list that folder along with the volumes when I log into Back to My Mac from work.
