View 3 RepliesI have an Acer 22" display (the x223w) that I have been using with my old powermac g4 for a few years and its been great. I recently got an Aluminum macbook and wanted to use the display with it at my desk. I got a cheap mini display-port to DVI adaptor from amazon and when I plug it in, the display looks a bit fuzzy! It is set to the same resolution as when it was hooked up to the powermac, but everything looks a bit bigger (doesn't this mean the resolution is lower?) and the text especially looks a little fuzzy. Is it the cheap adaptor? I have it set to 1680X1050 on both computers. I feel like I just want to adjust the sharpness, but the display doesn't have that option. Also, it seems weird since it looks fine with the powermac.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI have a 27" imac and have been using an apple led cinema display with it. I have had no problems with the display until today. Yesterday I installed windows 7 via bootcamp and had some trouble with the second display being detected but after downloading all of the bootcamp updates it worked fine. Today I restart my computer back into OSX and the display does not work. I tried resetting the PRam or whatever but that didnt do anything. When I go to system preferences > display there is no longer an option to detect display and there are no longer options to change the screen resolution.
I spoke with an apple tech who has me installing an update but I dont think she really knew what was going on and I doubt this will work. When I reboot back into the windows partition the display works during start up and I see the windows logo. So I dont think its a hardware issue (also the display still works fine with my macbook pro). But as soon as startup finishes I get a black screen. Under the control panel windows still recognizes that there is a 2nd display attached and you can still drag items over to the other screen, I just cant see anything. All black.
I have a 14'' iBook and recently bought an LG 19'' Widescreen monitor. I am testing a Dell 17'' on it right now before I open the LG one, but my problem is that the same screen shows on my ibook and the external. This isn't what I want. I have read you are supposed to be able to close the laptop and then it shifts to the external display but this is not working for me.
This is my goal:
Use my bluetooth keyboard full time
Have my ibook closed at all times
Have my external as my main display
How do I make this work?
I want to setup mac mini as a server for my apple tv and macbook. im thinking of going the sever route 1.because i want to learn serve side things and 2. because i have access to it.I plan on adding a lot more video to my collection so ill be adding at least 1tb to the setup. whats the best solution for my needs?

I've got the speakers hooked into my mac using an optical cable. When I go into the midi audio panel and select the configure speakers button, the only thing that is enabled is Stereo. the 5.1 option is grayed out. All I want is to have some surround sound in World of Warcraft like I used to have on my pc using the same speakers.

I'm using a MBA connected to a 52" TV with a 1920X1080 resolution when I teach. I often turn mirroring on and off depending on what I'm teaching and what program I'm using. When I turn mirroring on it defaults to a 1400X1050 resolution and I have to manually go into display settings and change it to the higher resolution. Is there a way to set the default settings so that it will always default to 1920X1080?

as it happens just came back from a small apple store nearby with the intention of buying the unfortunately I found a display related blocker... : it turned out that the exposed 27" had banding problems that were clearly visible when you opened (for example) a full screen terminal window with 100% opaque black background; if you did, you could see as at least that 27 imac showed very good black levels for over 3/4 from left to right of the display, but as you looked towards right the remaining 1/4 of the screen presented a mild gradient from black to grey that was particularly noticeable in the right edge and bottom-right corner of the display.

I have it on at the minute and it is working fine just not the right resolution so is looking pretty rubbish!

I'm new to the forum, but not necessarily new to Apple. I have a aluminum MacBook and have it connected via display port to a Dell monitor (have a cinema display on order from macmall due in tomorrow!). My question is while I have the MB connected to the display, is there a way I can have the laptop lid closed and prevent the computer from going to sleep?

I want to move all the movies/music I currently have on my 1TB internal PC Harddrive to an external solution that I can access with my MBP, which I plan to make my primary computer. Mind you that this drive is only going to be for storage of music/movies, not backup/recovery. I need at least 2TB out of the gate.

Just bought an external harddrive for my MacBook, and my hope was to move my itunes library, photos, and a few essential documents to the external.
what is the easiest way to do this?
Also, after I have everything backed up, I was planning on restoring the computer to factory settings, and enjoy it being "like new" with all my content on harddrive. If I did this, would I still be able to seamless access all the stuff on the external, such as my itunes library? How would this work? Is it even a good idea to restore the computer?
install Snow Leopard. It is my main computer now and I need to run my itunes off of an external drive. The library is bigger than the HD - so I copied the "iTunes Music" folder to the external drive.
I now have a brand new clean install of snow leopard, and the itunes music folder with all my media on an external drive. What is the next step for this specific situation? Do I need to change the location of the database file and hit "consolidate"?
My external display (HP w2207) seems to conflict with my MacBook Pro (15 inch Retina display, early 2013) since I upgraded MacBook OS to 10.9.4.The external display works at initial boot of Mac but does not work after OS sleeps and I attempt to awaken, and while the external display is not waking, the Retina display flashes through different screen views, which only partially reflect my normal screen, or do not reflect my normal screen at all.

For the past few months i have been using an external display hooked up to my 12" powerbook g4. I have had it on a dual display mode so no mirroring. Recently i would open the laptop lid waking it from being in sleep mode and my internal display will not turn on. The apply system profiler does not even recognize that the internal display exists. My external display works fine and has always been set as the main display. If i go to detect displays nothign happens. I have tried restarting the computer, instering system disks, unplugging the external and nothing has worked. I simply cannot get my internal screen to fire back up. When i used to unplug my external display the internal display would switch back to being the main display and everything would be fine. Now i cannot get the internal display to function whatsoever. Please try and help me as a need this laptop working and i will be ordering a mac pro soon for use with my external display.

I have my 40" flat screen plugged into my imac via VGA cable to mirror the image.
I'm just trying to have the imac display sleep while I play a movie full screen through the external TV.
I've tried two different ways but both have failed.
1-I set up a hot corner in the imac to sleep display but this results in both the display and the TV sleeping.
2-I just set the power settings to sleep after 1 minute. This works but then If a movie is playing the computer won't go to sleep.
I have a Macbook Air, and i just picked up the new LED ACD from my local apple store. Since im new to mac, is there a way to either close my Air and not have it go to sleep? I want to use the external display as the primary display with my laptop closed, any ideas?

I have a 1TB portable Toshiba external HDD. Originally I had it formatted as Mac OS extended Journalled, until I ran into a problem of transferring files to a windows pc at home. So I reformatted it to NTFS-3G with a driver I installed on the mac. However I noticed it transfers files like 4 times slower. Does NTFS suck that bad? (rhetorical)
I am thinking or reformatting back to Mac Journalled and installing MacDrive (which I stumbled upon today on the net) on my windows machine. Would that be faster than my current way or all the same?
I'm having a bit of trouble figuring out what the approximate costs would be to upgrade the hard drive in my mid-2009 macbook pro. I have a 160 GB hard drive and it is nearly full, but I am a bit of a photo enthusiast and now must labouriously find things to delete before adding new photos.
I know that an external hard drive is an option, although I'm not sure how it would work for me since almost all of my memory is eaten by photos and music, and I very much like having all of this media on the machine together in my iphoto and itunes libraries. I have no sense of what this would cost. Needless to say, I would bring my machine into apple to upgrade given that I'm not knowledgeable enough to even consider opening it myself.
I am willing to consider a new macbook, but this seems excessive given that I am generally happy with the machine and it has only slowed slightly since purcahse, and mostly in the recent months as it has teetered dangerously close to completely full.
