Jun 23, 2010I've uninstalled appdelete as I now use cleanapp. Anyway, I have uninstalled it but the contextual menu is still present. I have tried looking at the services and libraries but cannot locate the specific item needed to be deleted to remove the appdelete contextual menu item.

Dec 7, 2014After installing the new Yosmite software, my Macbook Pro wont start anymore. I am trying to use Time Machine to use an older back-up. However, Time Machine is displaying the following sentence: 'Time Machine is searching for back-up copies...' (I translated it from Dutch). This has been going for a while without Time Machine finding a back-up. Does this mean I dont have any back-ups, or does it just take a while to find the back-up?Â
Furthermore, if I done have a back-up, will re-installing Lion OS mean that all my files will be lost?Â

Jun 14, 2012I appreciate Mail's efforts to streamline the inbox by grouping emails into conversations based on the subject. However, when I search for a specific string in an email, the search returns the conversation of grouped messages and does not indicate the specific point in the message containing the text. In the case that finally prompted this post, the conversation contained 50-odd emails, since all of them contained the appended text of all the previous exchanges in the chain. I am then left with the task of scanning through 50-odd emails, whether they be separate or all retained within a single message, for the particular string I'm after. And that defeats the whole point of searching to begin with.Â
So, am I missing some functionality that overcomes this? Really all I want is for the search to return not just the email, but the location within the email (or chain of emails) where the text is found. Returning 50 hits because each email contains the text somewhere in the lengthy history of the conversation, without actually showing me where in the conversation the text appears,
OS X :: Time Machine Fails To Backup - No Access To A Specific File?
Dec 31, 2008The following error message appears when I attempt backup using TM;
"You do not have appropriate access privileges to save file ".0019e33d49f6" in folder "Time Machine Backups".To view or change access privileges, select the item in Finder and choose File > Get Info."
Spotlight can't locate this file, I've ran disk utility to verify and repair the internal drive, verified the external, no problems on both counts. I even tried allowing read & write privileges temporarily to everyone on both drives, but no luck.
OS X V10.6 Snow Leopard :: Time Machine Cannot Find Specific Backup
Apr 13, 2012I need to do a complete restore of my MacBook from a previous time. Now, I back up my wife's MacBook and mine to the same external hard drive using Time Machine on a regular basis and if I open TM on my MacBook I can see all my backups in the 'time travel' view. As well, if I do a Finder search in my external hard drive, all the backup files are there, both my wife's and mine in two separate folders.
The problem comes when I try to restore, using my Install DVD. At the point that it asks me where the backup is stored, I click on my external hard drive and it shows my wife's and my backups as options. All my wife's backups appear when I select hers. But only my original backup appears when I select mine. It doesn't recognise all my subsequent backups. I've tried deleting my wife's backup folder but still only see my original backup.

Jul 14, 2010I didn't use the migration assistant, since I wanted to change some key things. What I did do, was copy some old folders from my old mac to my new mac. Oddly enough, during this change, the permissions on these files got locked. Now, since I'm logged in as admin, I can unlock these files and change the permissions, but there's a lot of items and subfolders within this one folder, that I've had to change them all one by one so far. Is there a way, either through finder, or through the terminal that I can just change every item within the one folder at the same time

Jan 17, 2009Just heard that Mac's Install disks are machine specific. Is that really the case? If so, why? Coming from the PC world, I'm used to just putting the OS disk in the CD/DVD drive and take it from there. So, if I want to install a Mac OS on my machine not only do I have to obtain the OS, I also have to get the proper Install CD�s/DVD's or what? Please clear up the fog Mac experts.

May 18, 2009I tried putting together an iMovie project last night, but the main VOB files that I got the movie clips from were huge. The DVD I'm working with has chapters that last five minutes. I have MacTheRipper and I've tried Handbrake, but from what I can see, I can only go as small as ripping chapters from the DVD. I don't want something that large piling up on my computer when I'm only using tiny clips. (Perhaps even I did my iMovie project wrong? I got a terrible surprise this morning when, after deleting the large movie files, my iMovie project no longer worked.) Is there a program that lets me rip from - say 7:13 to 8:05? Just that clip - not a chapter or the whole thing?

Nov 19, 2008I just replaced my HD on my 15"MBP. The install went well until restoring my data from Time Machine. The apps came over fine but none of my data did. Yes, I checked all the boxes on the "restore from backup" menu.
Of course now when I start up time machine the backup isn't there. How do I get Time Machine to recognize the backup? I have it on two places - a time capsule and a separate external HD.

Jan 1, 2011Have installed an 120GB SSD in my Macbook Pro 2010 but have had a couple of problems. Sometimes when you try to enter time machine and or Finder the machine freezes. Also the only way out of this is to hold the power button down and reboot. I have been informed by Apple that there are slight differences between the 2009 and 2010 models. Another odd thing is Skype will not load up automatically on startup, despite making sure this option is ticked. Most other things seem to work. Reinstall original hard drive and all OK.I have tried this with OCZ and Crucial SSDs and get same result. I have also installed the SSDs by cloning and by direct original OS X disk.

Nov 10, 2009I will be getting my new Macbook Pro in the near future and am very interested in using Time Machine to wireless back up my data to an external hard drive. I know I can use Time Capsule to do this, but also hear a mention of just getting an Airport Extreme and my own ext. hd. My question is that I have Verizon FIOS Internet and my modem also functions as a wireless router. How would the Time Capsule/Airport Extreme work with this? Is it possible? I do not believe that the Verizon router supports wireless N, and I would like to take advantage of the faster speeds. If I were to connect a Airport Extreme to the wireless router, would I then have 2 routers to choose from and just use the Airport Extreme to use the wireless N? I'm very confused as to how I could make this work.
