I was just wondering if anyone knows of any software that has the ability to output a TV display on the mac display though the DVI connection. Its coz I want to be able to show a friend what im watching on my television through the share screen option with Skype.
I looked up an old thread on clearing recently viewed quicktime player videos. The advice recommended was to enter the following three commands into terminal. After entering the three commands the quicktime recent files were cleared. Uninformatively then finder would freeze up and give me errors.how to undue these commands?
Is there a way to reverse the scrolling on the Magic Mouse like it was before? I don't know that I like having it set the way that it is now since updating to Lion. I would prefer it the old way as it all feels backwards now.
it seems in aperture I can only "undo" the last 10 effects (b&w effects) . I have converted my colour to B&W on all 44 photos but only seem to be able to "undo" in 10..is there a setting to increase the number of "undo" available?
I have a Time Capsule wirelessly connected to my iMac. Since I've encountered some problems with backups because of intermittent wifi connection failures, I want to switch to a wired connection with an ethernet cable. I know I could fiddle with the wifi channels etc. but since the TC is just sitting next to my iMac anyway, I could profit from the higher bandwidth of a wired connection as well. Two questions:
1. What exactly do I have to do to make the switch? Are there any new settings I have to apply? Create a new network?
2. Will I still be able to use the wifi connection to get on the internet using my smartphone?
The internal modem in my PowerBook Pro (mid 2010) shows up as "not connected" in the Network pane of system preferences, but I can't figure out how to get it to connect. When I enter my phone number and click the connect button, I get an error message: "Network Connection The communication device selected for your connection does not exist. Verify your settings and try reconnecting." Say what? It says it exists in the System Preferences, shows it in the list on the left. How can it not exist?
I have a MacPro Early 2009, 2 ethernet ports.Ethernet 1 is connected to the LAN and Ethernet 2 is connected directly to a SSL Matrix console (an audio mixer), whom driver needs the used ethernet port to be first of the list in the Network connections list in System Preferences. So when I browse internet I can't use the Matrix's software, and vice versa.I had to create 2 different network positions to browse internet and to work with SSL Matrix, one with Eth 1 first place, another one with Eth 2 first place, and I always have to swap positions. Is there a way to force OSX to use by default the 2nd connection of the list for internet access?

I recently purchased (as in days ago) a refurbished 13" Macbook Pro. I just noticed today that my wireless connection on my Macbook Pro has been losing it's connection about every other 2-3 minutes. I was on iChat with a buddy this morning, and I must have been disconnected and then reconnected about 8 times in 20 minutes. I first thought it must have been a problem with iChat. That said, I have sat here looking at my screen for the past ten minutes, and I have seen the Airport wireless indicator disconnect and then reconnect again at least three times in the past ten minutes.
I have AT&T U-Verse Service, and I am forced to use their provided 2WIRE router. That said, I have had no problems with any other device that uses the wireless connection, from my iPhone to my PS3. I work from home and have my HP laptop literally sitting right next to my Macbook, and it has not disconnected once from the same wireless connection, whereas my Macbook has literally disconnected at least 20 times.
I'm on holiday using my mobile phone (Nokia N80) to connect to the Internet over GPRS / EDGE / UMTS. Everything works like a charm, but often the Internet Connect applet drops the connection and just hangs disconnecting.
I'm running OS X 10.4.7 on a 17" Macbook pro, but I have the same result on a iBook G4, same OS X version, and even trying with a different mobile phone (Nokia 6600) and different network service provider.
i have a router connected to my mac via ethernet. With my windows pc the router works as expected but when connected to the mac it drops the connection frequently. Does anyone have this problem?
I was wondering if Time Capsule can operate with UPS via USB connection (like QNAP or Synology or FreeNAS) ? Is there some option for it in firmware ?
I have the USB cable to connect the UPS to computer / other, and UPS can work this way ( Smart APC 650 ).
If not, i was wondering if Apple could add this function. I have AP client, 3 hard disks and 3com gigabit switch connected to TC. It would be nice if TC could check the power status of UPS, and work with it.
Two computers in the house MacBook and iMac, running on an Airport Extreme network, which includes an Airport Express plugged into the stereo.
A brief power outage the other night (perhaps unrelated), and in the morning, the network was wonky: the iMac was only getting two or three bars, streaming radio to the Express kept flickering on and off. When that happens, rebooting the Airport base station, the router, and the Express usually takes care of it.
Since the reboot, the iMac hasn't been able to keep a connection to the network, and often can't find it. It may start off, but then loses the connection and then times out trying to reconnect. Or the network doesn't even appear in the list. Read that launching Network and running Diagnostic will fix problems and it sometimes does, but never for long.
All this time except for one brief bit where it suffered the same problem the MacBook has had no problem connecting to the network and the Internet.
Have rebooted everything multiple times in various orders, run Disk Utility, and even gone ahead and upgraded the iMac to Snow Leopard (laptop was recently upgraded).
Recently my MBP (mid-09) has had issues with airport as it continually loses connection and I have to turn it off and on again in order for it to work again sometimes within seconds of doing so. I would opt for a fresh install but my dvd drive seems to be scratching the dvds and it rendered my Windows XP DVD useless when I tried to install that. So it wouldnt be ideal unless there is a method of doing so without using the dvd drive.
I have owned my mac for some time now. I have an IMAC 24" and a macbook 13" black. Have owned the Imac for nearly 2 years and macbook for about a year. Absolutely love them and i made the switch from windows for various reasons.
After switching our ISP to "talk talk" (UK) I have noticed that when a windows machine boots up and the wireless is detected my internet connection either drops or cuts out all together. Sometimes having to reset the router. This doesn't always work though. This happens when either an acer laptop running XP Pro or Asus laptop running vista connects.
Im not sure if this is to do with the isp or weather its something in the mac that i could resolve.
I have tried contacting them but usually put through to a call center in India or talk to someone with a strong Indian decent accent. I personally find it hard understanding them so prefer not to call as i feel im being rude constantly asking them to repeat. Also tried signing up to the talk talk forum but it ask for my home number and also a number we was issued with when we bought the package, and i for the life of me cant find it!
Has anyone else had this problem were he internet connection drops? It's fine if i have macbook and imac running at the same time but when the windows joins connection drops or just fails. If anyone else has had this please post.
I know there are a lot of similar threads all around different forums, but nothing really helped and I was hoping some of you smart ladies/guys can help solve this issue once and for all.
Here's the deal:
My main desktop computer (Compaq windows XP computer) is set-up upstairs where the cable router and linksys wireless router are placed (which is right next to the desktop on the desk). My Macbook (running Tiger and is 3 years old) and iMac (running Leopard and is not even 1 year old yet) are set-up downstairs in my new office. This room is in the basement, however the room is almost directly above the main office where the wired desktop computer resides.
Prior to setting up my office downstairs, my sister lived with my family in the basement and had her windows Vista laptop set-up without any internet connection issues. Her internet never dropped on her laptop, and neither did the connection on her wireless all-in-one printer/scanner/copier. Cell phone reception/internet connection in the basement is also great.
When I set up my iMac and Macbook however a few weeks ago, the internet keeps dropping connection! I do not understand this when my sister had no problems at all with her laptop getting internet connection, when she was living with us. The internet connection will stay good for either 10-30 minutes and then drop, or it could be good for up to an hour and then drop.
I have a VPN service that I can connect to with other computers in my home network with no problem, But my leopard MBP, After connection to VPN server (pptp), the connection to internet dies. I still can ping by IP but cannot with domain names. I tried changing the DNS server of my connection but no luck.
I have to say that this happens after I select the "Send All traffic over VPN connection" option in advanced menu.
bare with me please, but please don't use my age as an excuse to ignore my question. I recently got a MacBook 13 Inch computer, and I want to hook it up to the Internet. Do I need a wireless connection to do so, and if I do would I need to buy a wireless router? Because I can buy it I just don't want to have a whole new Internet connection set up just for my computer.
I have, up-to-today, been using MacFusion to map a network drive (Debian). However, it has now stopped working for some reason and I decided that it may be a good idea to follow this tutorial for an alternative method.
I have followed this page up until the point where I go to Finder > Go > Connect to Server. After this, I do not see any way of creating a ssh connection. Instead there are only some options to choose from e.g. afp, nfs, smb, etc.I am using a RSA public key currently for SSH connection via Terminal.
I have called both Apple and ATT to address an inconsistent DSL connection with my iMac. Paying for highest speed available and at times it's blazing fast and other times, it's quicker to go to the library to look up the info!Just wondering if anyone else has experienced this and if there were any possible solutions to get it more consistent.
I have some trouble. I'm not very skilled in mac. I have gemalto smart card reader with smart card for connection to my workplace network via VPN (PPTP). In windows OS I just put in USB my token and creating new VPN connection where authentification is smart card (do not need this card use for login to local computer). When starting this VPN connection opening smart card pin window, enter pin, connection esabilisched. How do I the same on my macbook?
It seems like with every website I visit it says "This is an untrusted connection" I don't understand becuase I have connected with these websites numerous times(my e-mail). I'm connected to my home network secured with a password. With some websites I can make a security expection with some I can not. I am using Firefox.
I have configured my VPN (PPTP)... everything worksI did not checked "send all traffic over VPN connection".Still, when VPN is active, the speed drop is huge. I get timeouts and when lucky the page loads very slow.
new AppleTV and the possibility to access Netflix is my new goal. I am located in Norway, so it won't work without som tweaks. My solution is to buy a Pro VPN service from strongvpn.com, but that will only get it to work on my mac, not the Apple TV.I tried to share my work-VPN through airport to do a proof-of-concept, but I didn't get any internet. Is this possible to do? My iMac is connected to my Time Capsule through ethernet
i got an harddisc hooked up to my imac with alot of HD video content wich i normally watch on my imac itself.
my question is. can i also acces this drive over another computer on the same network? and stream the videos in HD to another pc/mac? and what would i need to do this?
is there also a way to do this directly to the television? (ofcourse i understand i need specific hardware for that.)
My macpro for some reason doesnt have the signal catching strength of my macbook. I want to temporarily use my macbooks internet on my mac pro. I went to sharing and clicked share internet and plugged them into eachother via ethernet, but it didnt work...or i just did it wrong. Is there an easy way to do this?
One weird thing, I clicked on the wireless icon nd clicked create network. i created a network and enabled data sharing...i was able to access all the file on each computer respectively without plugging them into each other....how does this work? If they can share data without being plugged in why cant they share internet!?
I have been using Qwest DSL internet for the past year. But, for the past month I've had a problem with the internet going 100% out (for just 1 minute each time) when I'm surfing the internet or using Skype/MSN. It can happen 10x per hour or just 1x per hour. It happens most often when I'm demanding a lot from my internet connection, such as visiting graphic intensive sites (360 degree tours, etc.) OR when I'm using Skype with video/audio. It's sometimes predictable, but not always. Even if I try to recreate the 1 minute "outages" there isn't a guarantee I can recreate one of them.
Tech support has replaced my 2wire modem 2x. They have also checked my internal and external wiring. They've also changed ports and all sorts of things in the main office. They say I'm getting perfect speeds and a clean signal. They say they've done everything they can. And, honestly, it seems like they really have tried. And, the speeds ARE good, except for when the internet light goes completely Off and I lose my internet for just 1 minute. It then turns back on and the connection returns. (The DSL light and other lights remain on or just flicker).
My computer: I'm using a 3 month old 2.4 MB with Leopard and the basic Mac programs. I also have Skype and Adium, but not much else. No extra firewalls or anything. My DSL modem: I have a 2wire 2701HG-D. Built in firewall. Changes: I've not made any changes to my hardware or software. This problem seemed to come from nowhere. Everything was great and then these 1 minute outages started occurring. Mac/Modem settings: Standard settings using WEP. Other users: Just my MB (wireless connection) and very occasional use of a neighbor (wireless connection) who checks her email. But, she's often gone. And, these outages DO seem to occur when it's ME online and when I'm using the internet heavily.
is the connection really necessary? I am about to go pick up a 500GB USB external hard drive at Target. Will I be completely dissatisfied while I am backing up my data without Firewire?
