Dec 25, 2009So my question is simple. I have the base 13" mbp. So I have 2 x 1GB sticks. Can I get 1 x 4GB stick and make that total 5GB? Or do I have to purchase in pairs (2 x 4GB)?

Feb 7, 2010I have been trying to edit some footage and was trying to import a non commercial dvd to i movie. I have researched the web and tried to follow these instructions but doesn't work. I have an macbook pro 13'' 09
1. Insert DVD.
2. Open Disk Utility.
3. Select the disk and then select "New Image". Save the disk image wherever is convenient, such as the desktop.
4. Once the disk image is written, open iMovie.
5. Mount the new disk image. A "Camera Detected, Scanning Contents" window will appear in iMovie, followed by an import window. You can now import the DVD contents and start editing away.
OS X :: What's Best Firewall Solution
Jul 1, 2008What's the best (Software)Firewall solution for OS X. At the moment I work with a mixed environment ( ipfw, Apple Application Firewall and Little Snitch ). It seems to be secure, but this is an absolute overhead. I noticed, that my internet performance slowed down. For the moment I'm not able to spend money on a hardware solution. I'm searching for a complete Firewall software that controls incoming as well as outgoing connections ( Apple seems not to be interested in distributing a complete and easy waterproof solution ). Unfortunately ipfw offers no application control. I'm not a security expert, thus I need an easy configurable firewall.

Nov 2, 2009I've got a problem with my new mbp, mac os x snow leopard. It can't ssh. I've got no firewall running, can do ssh localhost and can ssh *into* my mbp from another machine, but I can't ssh from the mbp to another computer. If I do: ssh -v 192.168.0.6, hich is my wifes debian comp, I get:

I've tried uncommenting "Host *" and "ForwardAgent yes" in /etc/ssh_config (I read you had to do that on some other forum), but it doesn't help. I can ssh into my wife's computer using any other os than mac os x. This is extremely annoying, since I can't comfortably fetch my old files to this new computer.

Other devices (PS3, HP Laptop using Win 7, etc, etc.) are connected to the same ADSL Modem/Gateway via wireless. If wondering, this ADSL Modem/Gateway has its own firewall enabled and its application selection (for port forwarding) customized as well.

Jan 3, 2011I've used iCal for several years and love it. I have a moblileme subscription. I sync among an ipad, an iphone and two macs. Usually everything works great. Latest version of everything.
This morning I notice that on my MBP, only my business calendar is showing in ical. The personal one is there, and its box is checked, but none of the events are showing up.
The personal events are still there on my iphone and on [URL]. I just opened up the Calendar app on the ipad, and I watched some new personal events for today appear. So they are "out there." How do I get them to show up on my MBP?
OS X :: Wipe Personal Mail Data?
May 10, 2008I've searched the forums, but nothing seems to answer my question specifically. I'm giving my computer to my mother and I wanted to permanently wipe all my data/documents for two reasons: 1. To allow her the maximum amount of space and 2. To clear up any embarrassing emails... etc. which I know I have.So,I diligently went in and erased all my mail from "Mail".I went into Users/MyName/Library -etc and found anything mail related and deleted that (as far as I could tell I was erasing all my folders, in box, out box, downloaded files etc.) I also hit "empty trash" after I deleted stuff. However, when I did a search using "spotlight" it was showing up old emails I thought I had permanently deleted. Eek! I found this by accident when I was teaching my mother about "spotlight". My mother's not computer savvy enough to even remember how to use spotlight... but nevertheless I don't want my stuff on there. Other than doing a clean swipe of my hard drive and reinstalling the operating system. (i had OS X 10.3.9) and a friend updated me to OS X 10.4 - yes for free... naughty me... I don't feel guilty coz I did buy a whole new computer coz my 3 1/2 year old couldn't do what I wanted anymore - ie burn dvds, video record, wifi, more than 40GB HD... so they made a lot of money out of me! Anyway. I also don't really want to wipe the applications just in case something happens to my new computer. I'd like to be able to use the old one as a back up.....

With Safari everything seems to be fine - type in the domain with or without the 'www' and you arrive at the right place. But with every other browser I've tried (Chrome, Firefox, Flock and Camino) only [URL] version works. Enter the url without the www and you end up at [URL] could someone let me know what I've done wrong? I've tried clearing the cache in all the browsers but that's had no effect.

1). When I set up my iMac and Macbook Pro for the first time, it asked me for my name, address, city, zip, phone, etc.... well my address and phone has changed. How do I edit so the updated info displays into forms automatically? And can I turn off the automatic insertion of information when filling forms?
2). My Macbook Pro 2.8 came with leopard obviously. I have an iMac 2.8 that did not come with Leopard and wish to install Leopard. Can I use the OS dvd that came with my Macbook Pro to install Leopard or should I buy the $29 upgrade dvd? And can I do this without erasing all my program application files?

May 16, 2012My company would like to purchase Final Cut Pro. From what I have read, the company can get an Enterprise AppleID. However, even with an Enterprise ID it appears that we only get a code. Then the user has to use their own AppleID to redeem the code and install it on their work Mac. My question is once they leave the company how do we make sure they can't download the same app at home and how do we set it up so the next employee can download the same app without us paying again for the software? Our policy is to wipe machines when an employee leaves and set everything up from scratch which would wipe out the Final Cut app.

ICloud :: How To Import Personal Folders
Jun 3, 2012I have personal archive folders that were on my Mac but were not in MobileMe before I transitioned to ICloud. I exported all of them (as .mbox files) to my Mac Desktop. I see no Import function in iCloud mail. I do realize that Smart folders won't work in iCloud, but nearly all of the personal folders are regular folders. Is there a way to get these archives into iCloud mail? I don't want to have to create them all over again and mail every message to myself at my iCloud email address and file all of them to newly created folders.
