OS X Mountain Lion :: WiFi Via 10.8.5 - Connection Timeout Occurred
Jun 1, 2014
I've had the same internet connection for 5 years. Same wifi. Same password.
My previous mbp / os had no problems connecting and *staying* connected.
Now, with my 8-month-old MBP / OS10.8.5, I regularly get bounced off wifi and when I try to reconnect, I see my wifi in the networks list, but I get "a connection timeout occurred" fail.
Incidentally, my iPhones (4 and 5) over five years have *never* encountered this issue. They are on the exact same wifi / password / network as my MBP.

I recently switched cable providers to Time Warner. They set up a Ubee cable modem and all devices (IPhone, IPad, AppleTV, etc) are all connecting to the wireless network except my IMac. I tried renewing my DHCP lease, updating to OS X Maverick but every time I try and connect I get an error message that says "Connection Time Out".

I have a MacBook Pro Yosemite 10.10.1 (Retina, 15-inch, Mid 2014). Today my mbp won't connect to any other wifi except one. When I tried to connect other wifi it gives me "connection timeout" all the time. I tried to restart/reset my router, used new location, create new wifi connection but all of them does not work.

I have a macbook 2.4.
I used to connect wirelessly through a router. I can't connect anymore with my macbook, I have a message "connection timeout" when I choose appropriate network and type the code (I tried both WPA and WEP). The thing is I can connect without any issue onto the same network using a pc.
I have also a partition with Windows vista on my macbook but still I can't go online.

Hey everybody , I just bought a 15" MBP yesterday , unboxed it , turned on.. everything is fine , surfing the net... , and then installed SL , the internet start having some problems , like losing connection...etc , after that i couldn't connect , "connection timeout" I thought it was from the SL , so I deleted it and installed Leopard , but still the same problem , also if I try to connect from the iPhone or the iPod touch through wifi , it says unable to connect...

So, this afternoon everything was fine until a few hours ago when the internet connection inexplicably started giving problems. Before that, I was just browsing on the web. I never messed with any network configurations.
I own an iMac 27" (Mac OS X version: 10.6.3) that keeps asking for a WEP password. I write it down but the only thing I get is a "Connection timeout" message.
I'm using a SMC router (ADSL 2 Barricade G) by the way. I understand WEP isn't the best choice, but the tecnhician said it was the only way to make all three computers have internet access. With WPA, the two Windows laptops had problems conecting. I changed the client to "No WEP/ No WAP" and every computer can connect to the internet. However, this isn't the desired solution for obvious reasons.
On the Mac, I removed the old network settings. I tried the $ (and 0x) trick but it didn't work. I also removed the old network passewords from the Keychain. I know the WEP password is right, because I used it on both Windows machines when I changed the client type back to WEP Only.
Since the SMC router doesn't display the WEP password, I'll download some password recovery software to find it out. I doubt this will work, but I'm running out of options. I'm not a tech guy.

I have a Brother MFC-9340CDW WIFI printer which my iMac says it can't find sometimes when I want to print. I think I have narrowed the problem down to when my MacBook Air is on at the same time and using WIFI on the same network If I turn off WIFI on the MacBook I can print from my IMac. I am not sure if it is a router problem or what but we use the iMac and MacBook Air at the same time quite often. Checked on the Brother website - nothing.

I have purchased a Bose Wave SoundTouch music system and am having major problems connecting to my Apple Time Machine WiFi facility. This WIFi works with various other domestic items. The problem appears to be associated with the Apple WiFi password. I have been using this password for several years before buying my Apple iMac without any problem. procedure for changing the WiFi password.

Configuration: I have the latest iMac running Mountian Lion. I connect via WiFi to a Linksys modem that is connected to my ISP's WiFI modem which connects to a tower a few miles away which, in turn, connects to the ISP's processors somewhere nearby.
On the network diagnostics Network status there are indicators for WiFi, WiFi settings, Network Settings, ISP, Internet and server.
Occasionally the internet and server indicators go to yellow and then red resulting in no connection. I have reset the Linksys, the ISP WiFi modem, both and it does not seem to make any difference. Eventually the Internet and Server indicators return to green and the connection is restored. When they are yellow or red, it affects all processors in the house (iMac, Macbook Pro, iPad, iPod, etc).

Wi-Fi connection often stops after lion has been asleep. Other devices have no such problem. All was fine until this week. Lion is barely 3 months old. It's not a drag to reconnect, but should I have to?

asking a question already asked many times before. I have studied this topic in this support group many times and tried many of the suggestions offered, such as deleting key chains and changing routing numbers and others. However, I still frequently get the connection time out message, several times a day and it is sooooo frustrating.
I have a MacBook running OS X 10.7.3 and everything is up to date. I use a portable personal wifi hotspot from Verizon. I will be on the web and watch the wifi box green lights glow and get frequent disconnects with the message saying a connection time out occurred. I complained to Verizon and they replaced the wifi box - same problem. All those green lights on the wifi box glow and my verizon wifi is listed in the wifi choices pull down menu - my mac clearly sees it - but I have to click on it and get the time out occurred message several times before it reconnects.

Since installing Lion I lose my wireless internet connection frequently - only from the IMAC, not from the IPAD or Dell. I called support and after quite a lengthy "try this" session, I was told that this was a known problem.I can always get it back but sometimes have to unplug the router.

This weekend I upgraded my Macs to OSX Lion 10.7.3 and most everything is great. I spent some time trying to figure out why iCloud's Find My iPhone app will find my wife's MacBook Air and my iPhone 4 (iOS 5.1) but will not find my 2008 vintage MacBook Pro. I finally found one misconfigured AppleID and corrected that which then caused Find My Mac to report the MacBook Pro as "Offline" when it was clearly connected to the Internet (via Ethernet cable to my Time Capsule) and even logged in to iCloud itself. On a whim, I turned on WiFi and that did it. The MacBook Pro is now found and its location reported. I have not found any caveats about the Find My Mac requiring WiFi.

My airport keeps dropping and it is wasting so much of my time. I have tried all the methods suggested online and none of the worked. I want to go back to snow leopard but I don't have my disc. And can I have my money back from Lion? I really will not use that until it is fixed.

I've iMac OS X Lion 10.7.3 latest version desktop. For couple of months, I'm dealing with dropping wifi connection during working. Every a few minutes, even during surfing though internet pages, wifi connection drops. When you look at the signal level etc.. everything is seems to be fine, but it is not possible to connect internet after close-open wifi. For a while, connection drop happens again.

After switching to a new provider and getting a new dsl modem (a fritz!box fon 7390) I tried to setup my homenetwork again. Now the weird thing is: my Mac Mini running OSX Lion Server doesn't seem to be able to connect to the internet over its ethernet port, only when using a WiFi connection...When it's connected with ethernet it can reach the dsl modem without any problems, but it can't ping/telnet or anything else through, only over WiFi... As long as I use the mini servers WiFi connection everything works fine, but that doesn't make any sense to me.I've checked the servers setting and the Fritz!box settings and I can't seem to find anything obvious. Of course I could just go on and use the WiFi connection...
ps: all the other computers can connect fine using either wifi or regular lan connection... I even tried the exact same cable with another laptop just to make sure...

I am on a Mac Mini connected to the Net via a FON wireless router and Ethernet directly to my broadband modem. I have had problems with both the modem and an Airport Extreme, which eventually died, but I am back up again with the modem via the FON router. The odd thing is that I can't get Ethernet to work over a direct connection to the modem. Diagnostics tells me that the ISP and Internet fails. I can connect to the modem over Ethernet, however, change its settings etc. in my browser. There are solutions mentioned here involving changing the etc/authorization file, but wouldn't that also affect the WiFi if that was the problem?
In short, Ethernet connection to modem works. WiFi connection to FON router and then to the ISP and Internet works. But the Ethernet configuration does't go that last bit, it only works locally. Using that route, I can't connect to the outside world. I have restarted the modem, the computer etc., but that should not be the problem as both works over WiFi, using the same settings for the modem. How do I best troubleshoot this? I am getting an AirPort Express, perhaps it will work better with the modem that the computer itself, but I doubt it.

Since upgrading to Lion I've had the problem with wi fi losing connection and this seems to be common? The Apple support talked me through a change in system config. I'm no expert and not sure if I could repeat if needed. The support desk could not guarantee that this will permanently fix the problem though.

I am having internet connection issues with my MacBook Pro 2011 - running the latest version of Lion OSX. My connection cuts out regularly (every 10 - 15 minutes) despite having a full wifi signal. It is happening on two different routers, in two different locations with two different ISP's.
When I run Network Diagnostics ISP is the test that fails, but after a couple of seconds diagnostics fixes it until the next 10 - 15 minutes. The only other alternative is turning wifi off and on. Both of these only last for the 10 - 15 minutes before it cuts out again.
It is very frustrating and research online seems to indicate it is a Lion issue. I have made an appointment with a genius, but browsing online it appears there is no solution. It is not acceptable.

When trying to connect to my airport xtreme (time capsule) using my MacBook Pro and it's unable to connect because of a "connection timeout." What I've tried to do:
-I tried all the security settings for the wireless settings (WEP/WPA and no security) and it still doesn't connect.
-relocated the time capsule to a remote location where it is away from any other electronic equipment (phones, tv, DSL, etc.)
-Read posts in different forums explaining different steps. One of those steps being to shut down the cpu, unplug the time capsule, and unplugged the modem in that order. Waited 5 minutes then plugged in the modem, time capsule, turn on the computer and go through the process. That also didn't work.
-Tried reseting the time capsule and going from scratch with no luck as well.
It's not that it doesn't work at all, because once every blue moon it would connect but it doesn't last long at all.

I have a Time Capsule wirelessly connected to my iMac. Since I've encountered some problems with backups because of intermittent wifi connection failures, I want to switch to a wired connection with an ethernet cable. I know I could fiddle with the wifi channels etc. but since the TC is just sitting next to my iMac anyway, I could profit from the higher bandwidth of a wired connection as well. Two questions:
1. What exactly do I have to do to make the switch? Are there any new settings I have to apply? Create a new network?
2. Will I still be able to use the wifi connection to get on the internet using my smartphone?

What seems to be on some kind of time schedule, my network connection times out. The message "a connection timeout occured" is displayed, rendering my attempts at re-connection useless. After hours of troubleshooting(my router included) and checking out other Mac forums, I have no solutions but to power cycle my router. This pretty much makes my MB useless unless using a wired internet connection outside of my home network. I've done tons of research online and have encountered hundreds of people with the same problem. My machine is a late 2011 Macbook Pro.

I have a my iMac set to require login after it sits idle for a period of time. When I return and move the mouse or hit a button on the keyboard the login screen is simply black with the login field in the center. Q: Is there a way to change the color or set a background image for this screen? It is not the same screen that appears if I log out...the one with the gray linen with Apple logo. It is just plain black.
