OS X Mavericks :: Unable To Open Exe Files With Unarchiver
Sep 2, 2014
I've ben having problems with my HP scanner software being able to save the files where I want to and in the format I want, so I uninstalled the HP Utility software and then sought to reinstall it off the web. However Unarchiver can't open the .exe file I have down loaded. Why?
Info:
MacBook Pro (15-inch Mid 2009), OS X Mavericks (10.9.2)
I recently installed Mavericks OS X 10.9.3 (13D65) and now I'm unable to open iPhoto ..I tried to update from the App store but I am getting the following message..'This update is not available for this Apple ID either because it was bought by a different user or the item was refunded or cancelled'. I have only ever had one Apple ID. I had the hard drive replaced 2 years ago at the Apple shop.
I have a Sony dictaphone which is great. Sad thing is, they use a retarded format called MSV, which technically is very good, but the thing is, Mac is unable to open it. I tried with iTunes and Quicktime, none of them works. I searched google, but found only five year old forumposts about it. Hopefully, it's possible to download a codec plugin for Mac OSX Leopard.
I have a few .m3u playlist files I created on a pc, but when I try to open them in VLC or Itunes they won't open. In Itunes absolutely nothing happens when trying to open the file. In VLC I get a couple errors. One is a 'File reading failed' and the other is 'Your input can't be opened' for each file it tries to read from the playlist. Any playlists created on the Mac work fine. Any ideas on getting the PC created lists to work though?
I'm downloading a series of video files. I click on each link and they start downloading. I might have several that are all downloading at once. While they download I go on to work on something else. However, when each file finishes downloading, the program I use to view the video opens and I have to take time to close it and go back to work.
Lately I have tried to download program installers for mac that are either in .bin or .hqx format. However, after I download the files and try to open them, strange things happen. With the .bin files, Excel tries to open them, and they just look like programming language crammed into the cells, so that's no help. With the .hqx files, I receive an error message saying that the computer doesn't know which program to use to open the file. How do I fix this problem?
This week my G5 started getting flaky. (Mac Pro G5, Model 5.1 2x2.4 GHz Quad Core with 24 GB RAM OS 10.6.8) Apps that I've been working with started not saving files, trying to open files not working. If I drag and drop a file on the app icon it will open. Sometimes I get a "Could not Open because of a disk read error" and "Could not save because of a disk read error" message. If I do a shortcut Cmd+S file will save or if I close window with out saving, I get the prompt to "save file...OK" and that works. If I go to Page setup, the dialog box comes up but is blank, with a Settings drop down that doesn't really do anything. I've used disk utility to repair permissions,..several times. I have set up another account and get the same results. It seems to be hitting all my apps. I have run techtool pro and everything it can check is fine. I have Sophos Antivirus on this Mac and it finds nothing.

I had to downgrade from the second Yosemite beta in order to run one of my applications for work that didn't run on Yosemite. I've successful reinstalled Mavericks to the chagrin of finder not working at all. Whenever I mount a DMG I get "Finder cannot open files in the “volume” format." Also, whenever I click to open a folder or a new window in finder, it just crashes and relaunches. I'm going to try to do a fresh install of Mavericks and recover from a backup.
I also had to regain admin privileges for my user which I have done successfully.
I am unable to open my college's lecture notes which are in the form of a Power Point presentation. I am running MS Office 2011 which is fully updated. The file will not open, and when I click repair it tells me that the file is either corrupted or was made with an older version of Power Point.
All of a sudden my computer (imac, 10.4.11) won't let me open images downloaded from digital cameras (I've tried several - so it's not the cameras). I get the following error - "Couldn't open the file. It may be corrupt or a file format that Preview doesn't recognize." Also the same basic error when using Photoshop and Fireworks. I can open files still on the camera, or saved to a CD - just not anything dragged to the desktop. I can still open pictures which had been previously saved - but nothing new. I ran the Repair Disk utility, which found and apparently fixed an Illegal Name error on the hard drive, but the problem still persists.
I just transfered all my files from Iomega Zip drivers to Mac compatible HP Flash drive. Now I can't open any of those files on HP Flash drive. Some of the files have even disappeared. Is there something I'm suppose to do with Flash drive to open files. If I can't open any of my files on HP Flash drive, is there any program I can purchase to retrieve files on Zip Drive?
my excel files change to XLS and can't be opened by the recipient when I email them, I have to send it to my pc at work, open it as excel from the list of applications, save it as an excel file and email it from work which is highly frustrating. I've heard it might be something to do with the recent purchase of Snow Leopard?
As stated in the title, when I try to download a file from the internet, clicking on the link associated to the file will not start a download, but instead opens a new tab in my browser showing the url of the associated file. If I then right-click and choose 'Download linked file as...' the file can be downloaded with no issues in most of the cases, at least as long as the website allows right-click downloads to happen.I have tried resetting Safari, emptying the cache and, of course, updating my software. It is a midly annoying problem, but it doesn't happen when I use other web browsers in my iMac.
Info: iMac (21.5-inch Late 2009), Mac OS X (10.7.4)
I am unable to open .pdf files in my Safari browser or in my Firefox browser. Firefox crashes completely. Safari just gives me a blank page. I'm unable to click on .pdf files online and view them.
I purchased the $5.95 version of Flip4Mac in order to be able to play .WMV files on my MacbookPro (Mavericks). However, every time I open any .WMV file, I get this error message: THE APPLICATION ATTEMPTED TO USE AN UNSUPPORTED FEATURE (Flip Player). I also attempted to play the files on Quicktime, but I get this error message: QuickTime Player can't open "XXXXX.wmv". I tried VLC also, but unfortunately did not work.

Adobe reader will not open pdf files I have saved as, or, export as pdf to my desktop (latest Maverick). The same file does open when I am on the source website (i.e. user manuals etc.). Why?
Here is how it goes, I download the file DMG file and it opens it with DiskImageMounter and it shows up in Finder after it is done downloading, I click on the package to install it and it will never open up; the prompt "There was an error opening this document. There was a Macintosh system error(-1409)"
I just installed icloud. Afterwards I am having trouble opening files becasue Microsoft excel and word aren't working now. How do I change the default to preview to open files?
We had a mac which was on Leopard and saved files to the server
The file system we use is a Windows 2008 File Server, this has worked fine with leopard for years
However I understand that Leopard splits the files into resource forks - and that Lion has dropped support for these files. That particular mac is now on Lion as we upgraded and encountering LOTS of issues
I unable to open or edit lots of the files as i believe chunks of the files are missing. E.g an .eps file showed as 740KB on leopard - Viewing from a windows PC it was 730kb for the .eps and 10kb for the ._ resource fork.
Now that we are on the LION upgrade, we only see the .eps file and it is only 730kb. Information missing is things such as preview (quark), Font data, type of file, version number. we have hundreds! of images, files etc created with leopard and now upgraded to lion they all have become useless!
Rejoining the resource forks and files together so that they are usable on lion
I got a malware virus and want to reset my computer. I have webfoot but haven't installed it. Would that solve the malware virus? If not, how can i move files from my mac to my WD MY Passport and clear up any duplicates? It currently won't allow any changes.

After opening Mac HD folder, made the mistake of attempting to change name next to house icon (Home? perhaps) along left spine (spine that includes 'Desktop' 'Documents' 'Applications' etc.). The computer started to run as if adjusting to the name change. From that point on, iphoto/tunes/aperture starting opening as if it was the first time asking for set-up preferences.
No photos/music can be found in the folders. I can still see my folders on the external hard drive that the tunes/photo are on, but they will not open when I open the programs. Any suggestions on fixing the links? I tried in vain to change the name back. The error message says that the previous name is already taken.
I have MAC 10.5.8 and use Firefox 3.5.7. Whenever I download a file and try to open it, I get this warning: xxx is a web application which was downloaded from the internet. Are you sure you want to open it?Whereas "xxx" is the name of the file I downloaded.I want to get rid of this warning message. I could not find a way to do so in Firefox.
