Is there anyway I can remove an application icon from the dock, even when the app is open? This particular app has an icon on the menu bar and I don't need it to be on both.
I have this icon behind the Application icon on the dock and I cannot figure out what it is. It is not something on the desktop as I have moved the dock and can't see it, so it is definitely connected with the Application icon. I have deleted all downloads which could have been half done and I have removed an Alias I had in the Application folder. Now all the Applications appears as "Applications" in the "Kind" column when viewing in Finder.
Is there a way to remove adium's dock icon? It seems rather repetitive to have it both in the status bar and dock. I know I can remove the status bar icon, but I'm pressed for space on the dock. Any ideas? Thanks!
I just bought a new MacBook with SL installed. I have tried to search these forums for the past 10 minutes to find an answer. How do I remove the safari icon on the dock. It wont lemme trash it or put elsewhere but dock. I use firefox. Don't want the safari icon!
I'm running MacOS 10.9.3 on a late 2013 MacBook Pro.On a few instances I've spotted that the icon on the dock is not changing to show that there are contents waiting to be zapped. On clicking on the icon the finder window does show the files, but the state change doesn't happen.
I accidentally ran a command twice for the "Remove from Dock" thing to pop up for finder. I have already tried the plist thing, and it did not work, because I ran it twice. How can I reset it and the dock???
Sometimes, after downloading an app from the Mac App Store, the progress bar keeps saying it's almost downloaded but not finished. The only workaround I know is restarting the computer. The icon remains this way:
Mavericks 10.9.4 running on a early 2009 iMac.
Info: iMac (24-inch Early 2009), OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.2)
I am not installing anything, but after i boot up my iMac this show up. Only thing I can do about it is to remove launcher icon from dock and than put it back on. how to remove this line permanently?
My download folder has somehow been removed from the dock and replaced with a big question mark ? Downloads no do not go directly to the dock which is useful although they can be found in Finder. Does anyone know how I can reinstall a blue download folder back to the dock which will receive all my downloaded items.
I used my Macbook Pro's Time Machine to restore everything on the iMac that I received. However, the battery icon is showing up on the menu bar (in between the bluetooth and airport). Is there a way to remove it? Are there any other problems from restoring files onto an iMac with a Macbook Pro's Time Machine?
I have recently upgraded from Snow Leopard to Mavericks and am now having problem with my hp 4500 office jet printer. The print icon tends to stay on the dock after the print job is done and then mess up the print queue. Even worse if I forget to cancel it manually then when I put the computer on 'sleep' the printer starts up again and the whole job is rerun unless I get to cancel it quickly on the printer!
It does not always do this (the print icon disappearing as it should do), but for 90% of the time it does.
I haven't had too many issues with MAVERICKS but have been hesitant to install Yosemite onto my Late 2009 i7 2009 27" iMac. Five days ago, when my iMac woke from sleep, I noticed an "erratic" image across the sign-in screen. I did a hard shut down and when I re-booted, the screen froze at the apple icon. I used Time Machine to restore my system which worked successfully This morning, when I woke my iMac, same dreaded frozen apple icon but three attempts to do a system restore with Time Machine failed.
for a while now I've had a problem that is driving me up the wall. I cannot remove an icon from my dock (as in dragging it off or right click, and hitting "Remove from Dock") without the Dock locking up for a second, crashing, and restarting.
On restart, the icon I wanted to remove is still there.

I tried going into ~/Library/Prefernces and deleting com.apple.plist and the other db plist file but besides resetting my dock preferences, the problem persists. Do you think it could be an issue with Dock.app itself (on my system)?
i was wondering if anyone knew how to actually remove the indicators from the dock. I'm able to know what applications are open without it through constantly using apple-tab, but I really want my dock to not show the little indicators. And no I don't mean make them bigger or smaller etc. because I've already discovered how to do that by looking up how to remove them :P (didn't find anything).
