Unfortunately the logic board of my (late 2011) MacBook Pro died. Luckily it was an old unibody model, so I could move my SSD to a similar (albeit older, mid-2009) model and booting up my installation went fine.
The only problem I am facing is that I seem to have lost all items in the Local Items keychain, this includes all my Apple Mail passwords and a lot of passwords I entered in Safari. These were very long passwords I generated to be automatically used when needed, for security.
It seems that the Local Items keychain is not a .keychain file, but a directory with a SQLite database which is used when iCloud Keychain is disabled. Apparently it just created a new directory with an empty Local Items keychain instead of using the existing one. The name of the directory seems to be an unique ID related to the hardware I'm using.
I have already tried to rename my old keychain directory to the UUID of the new one and rebooting, but then it simply renames the user.kb file to user.kb-invalid and starts out with an empty keychain again. I cannot imagine that you always lose all your passwords like this every time your hardware goes defective? I still have the data stored in the login.keychain file, but since I have used Mavericks it apparently does not store all passwords there anymore.
how I can migrate the passwords from my old Local Items keychain to the new one?
I am running OSX 10.9.2 on a 2011 iMac. For as long as I can remember it has relentlessly prompted me to enter my password for this keychain and that keychain. How to do I disable this annoying feature?
View 3 Replies View RelatedEvery time that i start my computer up and go to an application that requires a password (eg adium, mail, safari) i get a pop up that asks me to unlock my keychain. it's done this for a very long time but has only just started to cause a problem. sometimes when i open an application at start up the pop up for the keychain password doesn't appear and causes the application to freeze and requires a restart to fix the problem.
is there any way i can stop it from needing to ask me?
i've tried unlocking the keychain and then restarting
tried deleting my keychain and starting a new one
tried verifying and reparing the keychain
I recently created a Sparse Disk Image that I've password protected. When I try to open the Disk Image I get a popup window that has the words "Keychain Access" as the window title and the following text below that: "To perform this action you must unlock the keychain. Please enter the keychain password." Now, this is pretty straight forward (obviously). My question is, how do I (once I've unlocked the keychain and opened the Disk Image) immediately lock the keychain again so that if I step away from my computer my keychain isn't still open?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a MBP1,1 completely updated and OS 10.6.4 is now experiencing repeated hanging sessions where the beach ball shows up for 20 seconds at a time. I tried repairing the disk and repairing permissions, both with the disc upon startup and just running OS X normally. However, each time I repair, the same 3 files are always fixed and a 4th file that was not being able to be repaired at all. I don't think it's RAM problem because Windows runs smoothly, but this issue is frustrating. Should I just reinstall OS X.

I recently had the following experience, which is making me thinking about Local Time Machine Backups.
I have a MacBook Pro w Mavericks. I recently had an issue on my 40GB iPhoto Library and had to restore a previous version.
Since I was not at home (so without my Time Capsule), I firstly restored a local time machine backup of the previous day, which was created before the issue to my iPhoto Library. The old iPhoto Library was available by surfing on the local TM snapshots, however, after restore, I had the same issue: the library was corrupted. I tried a 2 days before local snapshot, without success.
Back home, I did a TM restore by using my Time Capsule TM backups, and the library is fully working, without any issue.
Since all the local backup that I tried to restore were related to dates where the iPhoto library was ok, I am wondering if there are any limitations or issues to local time machine backups.

Is it possible to use the screen sharing feature from outside my local area network? I would like to be able to share screens with relatives with Macs. I presently have had some success with the use of the Messages > Buddies screen sharing feature through Jabber, but sometimes it doesn't work. The other option is use some service like join.me or team viewer. I would prefer to a program like screen sharing, but without having to deal with my router.

Mainly because I have a teacher that wants students to save their work on a local server instead of saving work locally. This sounds like something you could do using Group policy for a Windows OS, but not something that you can restrict in Mac OS X. I just want to know for sure there isn't another way to do this on a Mac OS X.

I’m using Thunderbird 31.0 beta on OSX 10.9.3 and when I move a message from my IMAP inbox to my local folders, the message at first appears to be moved.
1) It disappears from the inbox folder display and
2) It is copied into my local folder
However, if I look in the IMAP trash folder the message is not there. When I go back to the IMAP inbox folder, the message reappears there. (It will also reappear if I simply refresh the IMAP inbox folder after moving the message).
If I delete the message from my IMAP inbox folder, it is correctly moved from my IMAP inbox folder to the IMAP trash folder, which is how I have my server settings delete options configured. Changing the server settings delete options doesn't affect the problem when moving messages.
Additionally, my local mail folders are configured as maildir, not mbox. (Not sure it that's relevant info..)
Another user on the same IMAP server mentioned that they don't see this behavior with 24.6.0. I haven't tried to downgrade my Thunderbird version yet. I'd like to get confirmation that I have to, before I go through the process.

View 1 Replies View RelatedWhen archiving my Exchange account locally on my Mac, the server keeps syncing the messages back to my Mac! Ideally I would like my MacBook Pro to 'lead' the sync rather than 'combine'. I have tried many options including setting up a 'rule' which didn't move a single message! Also I tried copying all the messages, placing them in a local file & then deleting them from the inbox. But anything over around 10 messages, it just doesn't work! I have around 3000 messages I need to archive & cannot do it ten at a time. Also if I try using the web account on a browser it only allows me to move around ten at a time...! I am running 10.9.4 using Mac Mail.

does keychain simply overwrite an existing keychain password if you enter one MANUALLY from another device? i mean, say i get to a site that has data entered into keychain and i enter it manually does it save this info and pass it along to other devices?
ALSO, i got an error on a password when i clicked autofill on my iPhone. is there a way for me to FIX this problem in keychain from my iPhone if i know the password? i mean, can i enter the info MANUALLY somehow and have it saved and passed to other devices?

In Keychain Access I have a number of passwords for WiFi networks I am never going to use again. (Hotels etc) So decided to delete them.
I can delete the entries with an iCloud designation (have to type in an admin password etc) but when I try to do the same thing to the same entry but with a System designation - as soon as press "delete" the application quits. Happens every time - no matter what the item is. For some reason the Application just doesn't like me trying to delete System designated passwords!

is it possible for an application to gain access to the WHOLE keychain?
For example, if a application asks if it can acess the keychain, could it read every item in the keychain?
This Macbook Pro has been running Mavericks from the beginning and has gone through at least one other upgrade. After upgrading to 10.9.4 today, this popup keeps coming, sometimes with an application/account name sometimes not. Of course "login" is fine in keychain and many applications/Web sites using "login" keychain continue to work, including those implicated in popups. I tried "Verify/Repair" in Keychain First Aid. No error found. I tried to repair file system in Disk Utility. Nothing changes.

I have a lab of ~30 MacBook Airs running OS 10.9.4. We have MS students login using the Guest account with no password. The Guest account folder is deleted after every logout. Starting this week we are seeing keychain popups saying: A keychain cannot be found to store "Safari." or "Chrome." selecting Reset To Defaults makes no difference.
Opening Keychain Access is a slow process, but it does eventually come up. There is no Login keychain. And the Local Items and System Roots keychains are locked and do not open with a blank password.
Frankly, I don't want this guest account to be remembering any URL related password. So is there a way to shut down or highly restrict the Keychain functionality? If not, what do I need to do to fix or prevent all these popup messages and system pauses as the MacBook figures out for the nth time that Keychain isn't working as it expects it to?
