I want to upgrade to Mavericks from MAC 10.6 but I am getting a warning that if I do Microsoft Word and Excel will not work because they are PowerPC based applications. Is there any way to get them to work OK if I complete the upgrade?

However, when using Mail Merge in Word 2008 and an Excel xlsx file as data source under OS X 10.6, the file converter will not recognize the file unless the extension .xlsx is actually appended to the file name. The file converter used by Word 2008 still recognizes xls files with or without the extension appended, as did the file converter used by Word X.

After OS Lion installation pre migration to iCloud, I can't access Word or Excel - greyed out no entry sign and error message when try to open. "You can't open the application Microsoft Word because PowerPC applications are no longer supported". Didn't see any warning of this pre-installation. Didn't see any warning of this pre-installation. I paid for these two softwares and use them daily on my iMac. Need an urgent fix to access previous files. Any solutions to install a fix perhaps, and then re-install the software from my back up? I'm guessing it's connected with my recently updating my MacBook Pro (2.9 GHz Intel Core i7) to OS 10.9.4. Whether I open Word by clicking on a Word document, opening it via Spotlight, or directly clicking the application icon itself, my keyboard is changed from Dvorak to the standard American English keyboard. And as if that weren't irritating enough, if I change the keyboard back to Dvorak, opening another Word document while Word is still open causes it to flip back to American English.

I have been trying to open a document for 4 hours now, it opens it and then freezes, i then have to force quit it and start over again. Some times i have left it for a while others i quit it after it stops responding. It is getting ridiculous now, i have also searched for ages on the internet, some problems are unrelated some seem related but the fixes don't work, I need to get word to stop doing this.
I thought maybe it was because it keeps opening all my previous documents that I had open, i unchecked the box so it doesn't reopen windows and it still freezes but on this document instead. My problem, i created one text box in a document, somehow 2 more appeared. I made the mistake of thinking that to delete the extra text boxes, i simply highlight them and delete them. Silly stupid me, nothing that simple exists and i have wasted an hour trying to figure it out. The help button does squat, barely gives you any info on a text box much less trying to delete it. Does anyone know how to delete a text box in a word document?
