Jun 26, 2014
I Did a software update on my iMac to OS X 10.9.3 and now it won't connect to my home wifi. I've reset the modem and I still have access on my phone and TV to the wifi. But when I type in the password of my wifi it says incorrect when it's the right password. It also won't connect to open wifi next works.

Yesterday I got my new iMac 21,5'. After starting it up, the airport would not work. The open network (not password protected) was detected, but every attempt to connect to it ended with a "timed out" error message. I tried to deactivate and reactivate the airport a few times. With no luck. Both my iphone and a cheap netbook would get a valid connection in the meantime. So it's not a network issue.
It's a d-link router and it's about half a meter from the imac. My previous macbook with tiger worked perfectly with this connection. I tried to change the wireless channel from 7 to 6 and this did not solve the issue. Or at least not right away. I tried again after say 15 minutes, and it worked. However, tried again in the morning, and got the "timed out" error message one more time. I have installed the airport software update

My MacBook, circa 2007, refuses to connect to my home WiFi network, despite having added my MAC address, being WPA encrypted, updated firmware and the like. I haven't had a problem in the last year, until I started taking my laptop to work. It connects to my work wifi network, WPA encryption, and every other network. I have no idea why it wont connect at home. I'm running snow leopard, other macs and PCs at home can connect... It seems I'm missing some odd quirk, I've seen a few threads of similar complaints, but no working resolution. Any ideas? I've wiped out Safari, cleaned all network settings, and it all started once my use shifted predominantly from home to work. Hmpf.

I took my macbook back from uni today as I'm home for easter. I tried to connect to our home network and it asked me for a WEP password. I entered the one my Dad used to set up the connection on his PC. I keep getting a connection timeout and hence it won't connect.I installed windows via boot camp and also tried to connect it that way. I put the password in the same way as my Dad had done on his PC and it said the signal strength was excellent, but the status said little or no connectivity.

I can see my neighbors network but it doesn't even show my home network. Both iPhones are connected and working fine, our blu ray player is linked and getting good signal.... One day it just happened to not be there and it won't find it anymore. I have the Medialink n-router. I haven't changed any router settings...

I have an AEBS that runs 2 network, one for our laptops (all Mac) and one for our iPhones.Recently (maybe after upgrading the FW) I can?t connect any iPhone 2G, 3G or 4 to our Wifi. They see the network (sometimes), but are asked for password. I get the message wrong password or unable to connect to network.
The password is correct (they used to join automatically) so what is wrong?

I have a macBook pro, running Yosemite, and cannot connect to 5GHz on my dual band bt home hub. Keeps saying 'invalid password' even though it is correct. I have given the 2GHz and 5GHz separate names and passwords and can now connect to 2GHz without dropping al the time, but am frustrated re 5GHZ. Even when stood next to the router it will not connect or recognise password.

I have been facing many problems on connection to wifi with my MacBook Pro Retina (mid 2012)
I'm using mavericks and updated to 10.9.4.
My wifi is working well , when I am outside of home , but when I am at home wifi list will not display anything.
Even my iPhone wifi hotspot is not being displayed at home , but out side of home it's ok!!!
When I select join other network , after entering wifi name and password sometimes it can connect , and some times I need to reboot my Mac to connect.
I also installed Windows 7 using bootcamp , And every thing was working very well in windows.Â
for Solving problem I tried removing wifi Preferences files , create a new location , clean re-installing OS, but none of them worked.Â

So ever since I updated my late 2011 to Mavericks (10.9.3) I can't connect to wifi. I have tried lots of different "solutions" and none seem to work. I have tried from Renewing DHCP lease to resetting my router. Resetting my router worked for about and hour and after my computer went to sleep it stopped working. there is nothing wrong with my wifi and can connect to my wifi on other devices. Even another iMac that isn't running mavericks.

This problem never happens with my MBP - and it is running a CCC Clone of the same 10.7.x system. But whenever I restart my iMac 20.5" it never automatically connects at startup. I always have to touch the wifi symbol in the menu. After that I don't need to select my home network - it will then find it and connect. But until I do that it doesn't connect. This has happened ever since I've gotten this iMac. Also annoying is that the sound output upon startup always defaults to my Logitech headset regardless of how I left it set in Sound settings.Â

We have a PC in the upstairs office with cable/DSL router for Internet (through Comcast). This service also has a wireless connection. We have a Macbook laptop which connects effortlessly to our home network and we use it all over the house. We simply clicked the internet symbol on the top right (looks like a little amphitheater), selected out network, entered the password and have been connected ever since.
Today we brought home a new iMac and set it up in basement office. Tried the same routine. Clicked on the internet symbol, selected our network, noticed that the signal is just as strong as it is upstairs, typed in password but that's as far as we get.
I've gone the rounds with the Assist and the Utility features. I've shut the Airport on and off. I've tried setting up a new network. I do notice that the iMac has a "self-assigned" ISP "and cannot connect to the Internet." Does this mean I can't ever connect? Do we need to replace the self-assigned ISP with our Comcast IP address?
I've read here and there that our router might have Macs blocked and we could add this iMac as a secure system to get on the network. But we haven't played with the router's settings because we wouldn't know how. Besides, the Macbook connects fine.
Does this have anything to do with TimeMachine?

I just got an old iMac G3 Flower Power -Â 500 MHz , 1 GB of RAM, clean install of Mac OS X 10.3.9 (Panther) and System 9.2.2. It has an AirPort Card Installed. For some reason it won't connect to my Wi-Fi network, : "Error joining this network".I changed the security settings from WAP2-PSK to WEP but that didn't do anything.Â
- Is there a way to find out if the airport card in the iMac broken and needs to be replaced?
- Could the Airport card be obsolete? If so which one should I get?
- Is there a know wireless USB adapter I could use (USB 1.1)?
- Do I need to upgrade to Tiger (10.4)?Â

Since the latest update of OSX, I'm encountering trouble with my WiFi connection. My old sony laptop has no problem connecting, so I'm guessing the problem must be with the iMac, and not with the network. When I boot the mac, everything is OK, I get connected. But after a while (less then half an hour) it looses connection to internet. In the airport icon appears a " ! ". To get my mac back on the network, I have to reboot it. It's not a signal problem, my mac always finds the network, but it doesn't connect. My password is asked, I'm sure I entered it wright, but it's asked over and over, no connection possible. I tried changing DHCP to a fix IP, deleting the network and reconnect as if it's a new one, and little stuff like that, nothing helps. Only way is to reboot.

My music library is on my iMac, located in a different room of the house than my home theater system with a decent Denon receiver and good Infinity towers. I have an iPod connector to the Denon which I can use, but the iPod has a limited library of songs, so I would like to somehow access my iMac music library and be able to play it through the home theater system. Hard wiring the components is out of the question due to length of run through several rooms of the house, no basement and cathedral ceilings. I already have my iMac and my Panasonic Blu-Ray player both connected to my wi-fi, and it seems there should be a way to connect both of them using the wi-fi. The blu-ray player is DLNA, but the Mac isn't, so that is out of the question. Is there any other way to get these components to talk to each other over wi-fi?

I just bought an iMac. my husband bought a Dell XPS 2730. Of course, we discovered that we could not both connect to our old printer without some very technical stuff beyond our ken. So we bought a new wifi direct Brother printer,I can't even see the printer from my iMac. I have downloaded the latest drivers for it from Apple. The printer is all set up and can see my iMac.Â

My iMac is very slow. It only works on wifi. Ive got good cat 6 hard wire to cox business and its fast internet. but it wont work on the network. it says i need an ip address. it says the internet is connected but needs an ip address. Ive got it on dhcp auto. but not working. All other computers work fine with dhcp. It says the computer is connected but does not have an ip address. Not possible if its set in dhcp as that is supposed to give you a rolling ip address. Ive got a cisco gigabit switch that is working well with 10 - 15 other computers working fine on it. Ive changed the port multiple times in the switch. rebooted of course. nothing works.Â

I have a pretty old Titanium Mac Book that runs OS 10.3.9. It's a moderately slow machine, but still works- and although I realize that it won't be able to stream video or anything, I figure it would work for email, and basic web browsing- But I'm wondering if it's going to be compatible with any new products such as a USB wifi antenna - because the room where I want to use it won't alow for an ethernet connection-  Also, will the old 10.3.9 OS allow me to connect wifi to the newer airport extreme base stations?Â

I bought my first iMac yesterday and am slowly getting to grips with it. I seem to have got totally stuck trying to connect my iPhone or the kids iPods.
When I connect by the cable, the phone charges fine.
The computer doesn't recognise that the phone exists though - either in uTunes or when i look in Finder.
I checked in system information, under hardware - USB, and it listed the phone there fine. (under the USB 3.0 high speed hub)Â
I have tried putting making the sidebar visible on iTunes and this made no difference.
It doesn't even register it as a camera or external storage in FinderÂ
It's an iPhone 4, and I haven't updated the OS recently so it is still on iOS 6.
I've also not been able to get the iMac to recognise my printer throughout the wifi - I'm not bothered about fixing this just yet - just concentrating on one w=thing at a time, but mentioned it incase it's relevant.Â
