how created an unused network that is showing up on the list of networks in the building.  i need to delete it. I went to System Preferences, then Network, then Advanced but the next screen befuddled me as there was no "Wi-Fi".Â

Just installed my very first wireless network: Airport Extreme. NOT AIRPORT EXPRESS
Stumbled through the installation, and everything works.
However, in the process the software apparently selected a network name for me; and I would very much like to change that network name. I have crawled through the Network Preferences under System Preferences, but I can't find a way to do this.
need to run a terminal command on my computer at home but it doesn't have screen sharing or remote management enabled. I do however have file sharing enabled and able to browse the drive freely. I want to run a sudo command on that drive but don't know how to run it from where I am.

How can I change the preferred order of networks on my MacBook Pro? There used to be one network at my office. Now there is a second higher speed wifi network also present which I would prefer to connect to, but the Macbook connects to the older one unless manually changed.

I'm currently using crashplan as an online backup service. Crashplan uses port 443 to send its backup data to its servers. I need to figure out a way to differentiate crashplan traffic so that I can create a QoS rule in my router to assign it a low priority, and I'm not quite sure how to do this.Â
I can't use a mac address, since that would deprioritize the whole computer. I can't use port 443, because that would flag a huge amount of other traffic as well that I don't necessarily want de-prioritized. Currently, crashplan does not offer a way to change the port it uses.
I have recently begun to use a fios router for my home network. When originally set up by fios they set the security to wep, and I set my network prefences as such. Since then I have changed the router to wpa security My network prefences still shows that wep encryption is being used. It still connects to the net but I can't figure out how to change it to reflect wpa security. Or since I am connecting to the net , is it necessary.

when changing the network location from eg 'Automatic' to some location defined by myself, the system requires the admin-password.
is that correct? and if so, is there a way to allow a normal user to change locations without admin-rights?
I'd like to put a new whois server into the list of the network service (In my case whois.nic.ch) - so, that I don't have to write it again and again.
where this list is hidden in the system?Â

I can't connect to my network with Mavericks 10.9.4 since the upgrade from the old os system. All software is up dated, It should be automatic connection but won't connect. The network is fine. Other computers are connected to it with no problems.

i recently bought an Airport Express, and i finally took it out of its box after i purchased my new stereo. I connected the audio cable to the stereo and the airport unit and plugged it into an outlet. I opened up airport utility on my mac, AX appeared and i configured it to "join a wireless network". After completing the remaining steps, i updated it.. and waited for it to restart. Now here's my problem. It comes up with an error telling me it couldn't find the device after restarting. I have Verizon FiOS as my provider.. and I know that airport express has a history of trouble with the Actiontec router. Is there anything i can do with my current equipment to get this thing to work? I do not need to extend the network.. only join to use airtunes and print wirelessly... Also, my Actiontec router and FiOS connection are through my crappy dell pc downstairs, while i am using my 24" iMac upstairs in my bedroom trying to connect this. Should i change my router's settings?
View 10 Replies View RelatedI want to see what's happening on my Wi-fi network (and manage that if can) with Terminal, because I don't like other software.
View 1 Replies View Relateda macbook air and an iMac have both give the error "Another device on the network is using your IP address". They are both using the latest OSX and are both set to use DHCP assigned by my Virgin cable router.the address reported in the popup window is NOT the address that either computer was assigned at the time (the first time, I thought it was odd, and I had an iPad handy and used fing to search my network to see what device had just used that address and I didn't see anything). This time - I was on my iMac and happen to have a terminal open, so I did a quick if config - and my ip address was not the one indicated in the message (it was saying 192.168.0.8) and my address was 192.168.0.12. In fact I think that the other day it was complaining about the same .0.8 address.
I do have 2 devices that have a hard coded ip-address (but they are right at the beginning of the range, and in fact I have instructed the router to skip those addresses and just dish out ip's from .0.3 onwards). All other devices use DHCP.Â

Have become aware that the Network Folder is not showing up in the Finder Sidebar.
Have attempted to select the Network folder and use the 'Add to sidebar' but the Add function is greyed out when selecting the network folder,
The network folder used to be in the sidebar so not sure what happened.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI originally logged in at the free and slow level, entering my room number and last name to confirm. Then I found out that by joining the hotel's loyalty program I can get the fastest speed for free, but I can't get back to the login screen. I've gone into Network Prefs > Wifi Network > Advanced, to delete the network name off the list, but even after a restart, my MBP just logs right in at the slow level.Â
I've deleted all networks from the list and saved it, yet it just logs right back into the slow level. I looked all over Keychain and don't see anything relating to this network anywhere. Everything I try, my computer just keeps logging back into the slow level. The hotel has even deleted my login on their end, and somehow I just get right back into the slow level without entering my room number again. Where is this password and network info stored so I can delete it?

In our house we have 4 macs...two of them are new and I set them up by restoring from TimeMachine rather than with the migration tool as I have done in the past. This was recommended to me as a "cleaner" way to set up new machines (at least on an alternating basis).Â
On these two new machines I get a popup "Do you the application "microsoft word.app" to accept incoming network connections (this is also for excel or any office product). I'm still using Office for Mac 2008.Â
The only way I can find to stop these annoying popups is to turn off the fire wall, which I do not want to do (and which I have not done on the 2 mac books and they work fine).Â
Is there some setting or script I can run to fix this?Â

We have 4 Macs in the office and a bank of 4 printers all of which have been working great and connecting together for a while with no issues. However in the last few days the iMac can't find 2 of the printers. We tried to reload them through Print and Scan preferences but they didn't appear in the preferences. Checked all the cabling and hub and everything seems OK. Booted the iMac in Safe Mode and it could see them both straight away, rebooted the iMac and again they did not appear in the list, Tried to share one of the printers from a MacPro and it appeared in the list however sometimes it just won't print to it, it seems to print but nothing appears at the printer. Since then we have reinstalled Mavericks, Verified and Repaired Permissions, Verified the HD, reset the PRAM, all to no avail.
Apart from that the iMac prints to the other printers on the network without any problem and connects to the other Macs with no problems as well. We're using 10.9.4 on a 2.7GHz iMac with 8GB of memory. The other Macs can all see and print to all the printers. We are using a wired ethernet connection, not wireless.Â
