OS X :: Mail App No Longer Opens After Upgrading?

Apr 19, 2010

I recently upgraded my Intel Mac from 10.4.11 up to 10.5.6

All other apps appear to work fine other than Mail.

Now, I no longer get a splash screen or a mail page.

The Mail app shows in the menu bar but nothing works and it will not shut down unless forced.

Mail version is 3.5. Is this a common problem after upgrading?

Hardware :: Time Machine No Longer Works After Upgrading AEBS?

Nov 21, 2010

I just upgraded my two year old AEBS to the latest version of the AEBS (simultaneous dual band). I configured the new AEBS with the same configuration as the old one. But now Time Machine will not back up to the external USB HD that I have plugged into the AEBS. I get the following error:Time Machine could not complete the backup. The backup disk is not available. The disk is visible in AirPort Utility and is connected in the Shared section of Finder. The disk is also visible in Time Machine but it just flops out with the above error when trying to run a backup. Everything worked perfectly in the old AEBS.

Safari :: Safari No Longer Opens PDFs

May 15, 2012

Starting about a month ago Safari doesn't open website pdfs.  It goes to a new tab/window and returns a black screen.  My system is up to date with the latest updates for Apple products as well as for Adobe products.  Is anyone else having this issue or know a solution.  If I use Firefox it opens the pdf so I have to assume it is something with Safari.

OS X V10.6 Snow Leopard :: Calendar Opens Mail To Send Invites?

May 3, 2012

I use Thunderbird for e-mail and it's setup as the default mail client. Recently, as in the past month maybe, when sending calendar invites, Mail opens. I don't want that to happen. Why doesn't calendar use the defined, default mail app to send invites ? I'm 99% sure it used to do this too.

ICloud :: Mail App On Tiger And Leopard No Longer Bring In Mail From Non-apple Servers?

Jun 9, 2012

My husband's computers use Tiger and Leopard (10.5.8) to access his email on the Mail program. His mail is from Comcast and uses the Comcast server, not apple or iCloud.  His mail suddenly stopped working a couple of days ago.....as it did on one of my machines that still uses Tiger.  He had not done any updates that could have broken the software.  He does not have iCloud except on his phone and he doesn't even have a .mac address.  There is no reason for the comcast server to not be able to be accessed by Mail app. He did finally update everything that needed it and it still does not work.  Why would Apple's change over to iCloud break email access from other servers and how can we fix it.  He really doesn't want to do his mail on Comcast's web site as it's slow and awkward.

I am using 10.4.11. I no longer use the "Mail program" that came with my iMac. It's not that I didn't want to, but I changed to "Quest" as my server and could not get it to recognize the Apple "program/application." So, now I'm using the "Quest mail"program. My problem is that when I try to subscribe to some (just some) mailing lists or websites, when I click on "subscribe," my old mail program opens. It has my old email address so is of no use. Any ideas on how I can get my email address changed in the old "Mail," or have my new mail program open when I click on a link?

Applications :: Search No Longer Works On Mail App On 10.4.11

Feb 10, 2009

I have found that the search function in mail.app no longer works. I can type an email address or name etc that I know for a fact is there but search fails to bring back any results.

The company I work for has a system where whenever an email comes in it is read and then placed in a folder in mail called 'Completed' so we know the email has been seen by someone and acted upon.

I noticed that occasionally the search function would not work and then I found it was getting worse now it simply no longer works. I think the best it manages is 2 characters in the search field then as soon as you type a 3rd it says no results found.

Is there a way to rebuild the database or something? Is this a common fault?

Without the search function I now have to manually search nearly 6000 messages.

Software :: Mail - Can No Longer Send Emails?

Dec 27, 2008

Mail has been working just fine for ages and then for the last 4 weeks it cannot send any emails and gives me the following error message -

'Cannot send message using the server smtp-mbb.three.co.uk'

I phoned up the isp to see whether they had changed the outgoing mail server at all, and they haven't.

I have tried changing the port numbers to 110, 587 etc, but it still can't send.

I have defragmented the HD, verified it, verified permissions on it, cleared the cache, deleted the keychain password items for the mail accounts and the outgoing mail server details, deleted the mail accounts themselves and created new ones.

Software :: Mail Is No Longer Working Properly?

Sep 18, 2010

I have the Mozilla Firefox web browser version 2.0.0.20 .

I clicked on a Google image of the NAFTA Super Highway and the picture at the site opened with Internet Explorer .

I didn't have Internet Explorer on the computer before this happened .

Since then Internet Explorer pops up after I go on line with the Mozilla Firefox browser .

I could not get it to stop, so I moved it to the trash and it is still being held there . This is what I removed .

Internet Explorer 5.0 SR-1
DivXWebPlayer.dmg
efa_manuals-1.pdf
efa_manuals-2.pdf
Internet Explorer
EULA
Images
Microsoft Internet Self-Repair
Contents
IEHelp.htm
Microsoft Internet First Run
DivXInstaller.dmg

Before this, I'd open my mail, click on an web address in blue type, my browser would appear and the web site would open .

Now in mail when I click on a address that appears in blue type , like this [URL]= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =
ERROR

Mail was unable to open the URL [URL]No associated application
could be found .
= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

Do you know if there is a application missing, or could it be something else?
