OS X :: Mac Leopard 10.5 Restore Discs For 10.4?

Feb 13, 2010

my sister recently gave me her old imac. However, she only had the second recovery disc and, as fate would have it, I need to restore it, thus, I was thinking of buying the discs off of ebay. However, I wanted to ask a question first. The only discs I can fond are for 10.5, however, mein runs off of 10.4. Does that make a difference? I assume it would not, but I just want to make sure

Applications :: Can I Restore Software From Install Discs?

Feb 22, 2009

I would like to install worldbook 2004, which came with my eMac on my Daughters mac mini.

The eMac died a death a few years ago, but I still have all the discs.

Obviously I cannot restore the software,(its Panther),but I guess I should be allowed to use it as I bought it bundled with the eMac.

I still have the world Book disc too, but it wont install from there, It says it needs to be installed from the eMac Software Install DVD's

Can anyone tell me how I can extract it ? Or a reason my I should not be allowed ?

OS X :: Restore Late 2007 IMac With Unibody MacBook Installations Discs?

Jul 29, 2009

As I mentioned in a previous thread, I'm selling my iMac to buy a MacBook. The MacBook (2008 uMB) has arrived, with all the discs etc, which is brilliant.

My iMac however, came preloaded with Tiger, with a Leopard upgrade disc in the box. This Leopard disc has disappeared off the face of the planet, and so Apple are shipping one out to me, not sure when it will arrive. In the meantime, my auction ends tomorrow, so would it be possible to restore the iMac using the Leopard discs that have come with the MacBook, or is it safer to reinstall Tiger, and wait for the Leopard disc to arrive before shipping?

OS X :: Lost Discs - Install Discs From The Computer

Mar 10, 2009

I came home for vacation and decided to reformat my imac g5 to get a fresh start. I backed up all my files, took out my leopard retail box, and was ready to go when I opened up the box, and noticed no disc. I have no idea where it went.I have the install discs from the computer when i got it, but it only has 10.4, so id rather not use them. I have the install discs from my macbook pro with 10.5, but I am pretty sure it will not work.So does anyone have any suggestions? Should I just go ahead and install 10.4 until and then just install 10.5 when i find it? (i really hate doing this, I hate having more than one version of an os installed)

PowerPC :: IBook Clean Install Of Leopard Without System Discs

Feb 23, 2010

However, I don't have the iBook's system discs because my mother lost them (she was using the iBook until I gave her my MacBook).

I called Apple to get new system discs, and they sent me an OSX 10.5.6 Retail Install DVD to install on the iBook, but this doesn't include iLife.

Obviously it's not the end of the world if I don't include iLife (even if it is iLife 05), but I think it would help me sell the iBook if iLife was included.

OS X :: Restore For Leopard / Snow Leopard

Aug 26, 2009

A few days ago I was messing around with my settings trying to get the top clock bar to also display the date. Something went wrong and now the menu bar doesn't display the time and the battery, and it just keeps flashing back and forth. When I try to go into System Preferences to revert everything back, it crashes anytime I try to go into the Date/Time and/or International Settings, System Prefs crashes, so I can't see any way to get the menu bar back to working without a clean install of OS X. Now, my dilema:

I haven't backed up onto Time Machine in about 3-4 weeks since my external disk is full. All of my work is backed up through Dropbox, so I'm not worried there, but in that time I've downloaded a bunch of music and it's not backed up on TM. So far here are the options I've come up with:

1. Should I back the music up separately, do a a fresh install of Leopard, restore from TM, and then restore my iTunes?

2. Should I delete some older TM backups and backup fresh again on TM with new settings (so the system prefs aren't backed up), then restore from TM?

3. Since I have Snow Leopard coming tomorrow, should I just wait and install that then do either option 1 or 2?

4. Anyone have any other brilliant ideas that I didn't think about?

OS X :: How To Restore Leopard

Dec 1, 2010

In an attempt to mount an external hard drive onto my iMac, I attempted to put in the original install disk (10.4.7) and re-installed my OS. I was upgraded to Leopard but now I accidentally re-installed Tiger. When re-installing it told me that Leopard would be saved under "Previous System" or something like that. I've looked for this folder or a way to restore my system but nothing has worked. I was not using Time Machine. All of my applications (such as Final Cut) are still there, but "cannot be opened on this OS".

OS X :: Mac Leopard Restore Disks Not Working?

Apr 20, 2009

I have a white macbook with a 160 gb drive, 2 gigs of ram, and 2.4 processor, and i have been having problems with leopard recently and i want to add a new HD, so i would need the DVD's to restore leopard in both cases, well just to try out the DVD's i put it in, and then i clicked the appropriate icon to install and then i clicked on restart as the on screen instructions told me, only when it restarted it would stay at the apple symbol and grey screen for almost 10 minutes, and i would try again and again. i don't think it is the optical drives fault because to rule that out i tried our imacs restore DVD's and i was able to get to the language screen unlike with the macbook screen. The macbook discs are a bit scratched up, i left them out one weekend and well bad news for them, but even with the scratched the macbook was able to read them with finder, i just wasn't able to get to installer after the restart.

MacBook Pro :: How To Restore With Snow Leopard

Jul 30, 2010

Originally I had directly cloned my black mb running 10.5 to my new 13 inch unibody MBP that had a new blank internal HD put in. I thought it worked perfectly, but I guess because of driver issues, it would freeze up a lot so everyone told me I needed a fresh install.

Before I got rid of the old macbook, I made a time machine backup to a WD external, as well as a carbon copy backup (saved a spareimage).

OS X :: Time Machine Restore On Leopard / Tiger?

Jan 10, 2011

I have a Macbook, and used Leopard with a Time Machine to backup on an external HD. The internal HD started to fail, so I bought a brand-new internal HD to replace it. I want to restore my machine with the Time Machine backup I have but I have a problem. I lost my Leopard install disk -- I only have my original Tiger install disk that came with my computer. I will partition the new internal HD using the Tiger disk.. So I ask: Will I be able to back-up my files into my new Tiger-OS HD if the back-up was done with Leopard? Can I load my backup files if they were done with a different version of OS?

OS X :: Time Machine And Snow Leopard Restore?

Jun 14, 2009

I am a little new to Time Machine, so I was wondering if anyone could answer this? I am currently using Time Machine to backup my Mac. I am running Leopard and I want to move to Snow Leopard when it comes out. When i get Snow Leopard, I will perform a reformat on my hard drive so its a nice fresh install. My question is what options will I get when I get when I go to install it as I have Time Machine? I'll be honest and say I'll be happy to just copy across my iTunes, iPhoto, contacts and calender over to Snow Leopard and not worry about anything else (stuff like downloading Firefox takes seconds and isn't a problem). Is this an option? Can i just install Snow Leopard totally fresh, then connect the Time Machine drive and copy the iTunes (etc etc) folders/files/docments over to my fresh install?
