View 2 RepliesIt looks like some icons names cannot be changed in OS X Lion via the Resources technique? I used to use the tips from this thread in Leopard and Snow Leopard but now the game seems to be up:

I would, normally, replace the app with a copy of itself to overwrite the name but Lion won't let me delete the original because the OS needs it and like I said, the Resource lproj trick doesn't seem to work.
Is there a way to change the name of the Trash or TextEdit app?

I had to restore my whole iMac (OS 10.9.3, intel) from Time Machine backup and now TextEdit.app is corrupted and cannot be restored. (Don't know what broke system. Virus scan says it is clean.)
I tried to individually restore TextEdit from Time Machine but a dialog box says "'TextEdit.app' can't be modified or deleted because it's required by OS X." Interestingly, TextEdit worked fine just the day before but, according to Time Machine, it has been broken since January. I tried to restore it from the January backup, but the same dialog box pops up telling me it can't be done.

Yesterday I ran into a problem I did not know existed. I am quite new to mac.... I went to check "Last Week" in search side bar, in finder. I thought it was just history, so I deleted it all. It went into trash. Then I realized it acctually moved all the apps I used, files, prefs and so on into trash. I thought I could just restore items to its original locations. Peace of cake in windows, just click "restore". I found out I could not do it on my Mac. Yes, I know I could drag them back, but I did not know where most of the files originally came from. I searched the internet - found nothing, only that it is impossible to do. Is it true? I can not restore files I moved to trash? I tried time machine - did not work. The only way I could use - to restore the system using time machine when booted from Leopard disk. Is this the only way to restore something I moved to the trash?

I accidentally deleted a whole lot of stuff including apps, docs and critical workflow files etc of different apps.
BIG problem is, I am not sure which deleted stuff goes to which folders.
So how do I restore the stuff to their respective folders? In Windows, users have the option to right click and press "Restore" to return the files to their different folders.
When you delete something but change your mind, and the app is still in the trash bin, how can I restore back to its location with all the components? I know I can simply drag the main app to my application folder but what about the other components?

My 24" iMac (2.4 Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo, running OSX 10.6.1) crashed during a normal shutdown sequence and had to be closed down by holding in the power button. This resulted in three zero kB alias files with random names such as "." in the trash.
I cannot empty these files from the trash by any normal means and the trash icon permanently shows full. The files can be selected but cannot be dragged to the desktop or renamed. Other files put in the trash can be deleted normally.
My 09 Mac Pro trash won't make the normal trash sound when emptying the trash in SL. Does anyone know if this is for all SL users or how I can turn it back on? I like hearing the sound and don't like the fact that I have a glitch if this is one.

Is there a way to use a wildcard with Find and Replace in Textedit.
I have: word1 word2 word3
I need to wrap them in quotation marks and add commas. The final result I'm after is 'word1' , 'word2' , 'word3'
Is there any easy way to do this-- other than typing them? Otherwise, I've got a lot of typing to do.
