OS X :: How To Get Music From Macbook To New Imac?
Jun 7, 2009
So I have a macbook with 12GB of music on it, and i'm wondering how i can get that music onto my new iMac! I was thinking that I could take my itunes folder, transfer it to my external HD. Then in my new iMac i would delete the folder named itunes, and replace it with the one which would be in the external HD (from the macbook).

I'm about to get a new iMac. My old G5 iMac is 5 years old now and showing it's age. I understand you are promted when you first turn on your new mac if you want to transfer any data from your old computer. So I assume this includes all the music I keep on my G5 imac's iTunes? I also plan to get a new ipod touch(the one with the camera) when they come out, and I want to transfer the music I had on my old one onto my new one.

I am looking to upgrade to a new mac and have been set on getting the new 8 Core tower. A few people have told me I would be better off getting the new imac i7 instead. I am only going to be running logic 9, ableton 8, and protools le 8.. My sound card is a digi002 rack. I will only be using this machine for these purposes and no other. Would it be better to just go ahead and get an 8 core tower or would the imac i7 be just as good if not better? And, would the imac i7 be as durable with a full time work load?

So my uncle passed and among family heirlooms that I picked up he also left me his iMac. For the longest time all we had needed was a cheap laptop to keep our iTunes on for our iPhones and for internet access. With the addition of this desktop, I'd like to make it just as functional as my PC for my needs. The mp3 files on my uncles iMac were stored on a external drive so I just deleted his library. Here's my issue. I want to make the iTunes on my iMac just like the iTunes on my PC. Is there a way to upload all of my music from my iPhone to the current iTunes or do I have to put all of my music on a disk and transfer it that way?

what new imac to get. I really need to upgrade my macbook because I do a lot of music production and I need more cpu power. Currently I have a C2D 2.0 ghz T7200 and 2gb of RAM. What I need to run: Around 40-45 tracks (24 bit 44100Hz) in Ableton/Logic with around 4 devices (EQ, reverb etc) on each track. As one can imagine my macbook doesn't cope with this. Audio starts lagging and I need to freeze tracks which dramatically decreases my working efficiency. So I decided to get a new imac, I don't need more power than what the above requires. Other apps I will run is the CS4 suite but that doesn't require as much power as my music production. So mainly for music I was thinking a 3.06 ghz would do the trick. From benchmarks I see it's about twice as powerful as my current CPU. Would it be enough? By the way, I know about the coming update, but that can only be better than the 3.06 C2D so that's not the issue here.

my imac 2.4 core2duo died. i immediately bought a new 21.5" 2.8 i7 iMac. The only thing I regretted was that I lost my music catalog - imported from PC to the first iMac and added to, this included the napster hey day stuf too. Â
I just realized that all that old stuff is also on an old iPod that i have (how I transferred the music to the iMac 2.4 in the first place.Â
How do I get this music into the new 21.5" iMac? The iTunes on the new computer allows me to play it from the iPod, but not move it into the iMac.Â

I try to upload music from commercially produced cds but my iMac (intel) running Yosemite has stopped working.Â
It uploaded several discs then had trouble uploading one. When I put the next cd in to upload it made a few strange whirling sounds then ejected the disc. It didn't get mounted the the desktop either.Â
I tried it first thing in the morning when the machine was freshly started and not hot but nothings working.Â

This will be easier if you know my setup, so here goes:
Computers: Mac mini (not a new one) (10.5.6)
Dell XPS 410 (Vista Home Premium)
Dell Studio 540 (Vista HP x64)
Router: Belkin N+ (4 gigabit ethernet, 802.11 b/g/n)
Connection Type: Mac (AirPort to the router)
XPS 410 (Ethernet) 540 (N+ USB adapter)
Other devices: PS3 (a few more, but they're not relevant).
Here's what I want to do. I want to stream some video, maybe music, from my mini to the PS3. For free. I was thinking since the PCs can connect to the PS3, that I could use one of those a catalyst.

ITunes - 10.6.1 - Latest version on the Latest OS - 10.6.8 - Everything is upto date.I have the music library on this iMac - my primary computer.I have windows PC running exactly the same version of iTunes - 10.6.1.I enabled music sharing ( NOT HOME SHARING) - on my MAC and the shared library does not appear - I went through all the tips and tricks - Firewall is turnd off on my MAC/Both are connected to the same routrer within the same subnet.I could not figure out - So I turned on the music sharing from the Windows Itunes.. Immediately the shared library appeared on my mac - This is to narrow down the issue. However when I turn on the music sharing on the MAC, it does not appear on any devices, windows, ipad etc.Yes Itunes is open and running on my iMAC.This should not be this difficult.

the external SuperDrive on my iMAC does not read some of my music CDs. While the majority runs without any problems, quite a few cannot be read, although they work without any problems on my HiFi and on other CD Drives. All Software is up to date and the Drive is just a few months old.

I am going to buy my very first mac and I've decided it's going to be an imac. I'm completely new to mac and don't know which one of the two 21.5 inches (i3 3.06 or i3 3.2) to buy. Like the title says the main usage is going to be for music production and Logic or logic express is going to be used with lots of midi plug-ins. I'm also going to work with some photo and video (nothing serious yet), some web browsing and mailing (the regular things to do on a pc). And maybe some WoW. No heavy gaming on the mac, I have a nice windows pc for that I have a discount when buying that makes it harder to choose:
21,5" 3,06GHz - 1079$
21,5" 3,2GHz - 1349$
Which imac is for me and which one is most future proof?

I've been looking at buying a Mac for some time now and recently decided the iMac was the way to go. Now I'm not sure whether the new model suits my needs better than the old, so I was wondering if somebody could give me some advice on this.
What I'm going to do with it:
- record audio with an external audio interface
- use Cubase or Logic
- use an external full-hd monitor (dvi and hdmi inputs)
- use an external FW800 harddisk
- playing or editing hd-video (editing is not important, but it would be nice)
Does DDR3 and higher memory bandwidth give me any advantage? I think recording audio isn't that hard on the memory, besides using samples (which I won't besides some drum-sampling instrument like ezdrummer or addictive drums). Does the shared video memory affect overall performance? Or is it just like having less RAM? I know the old model has an FW400 and a FW800 port, but are they on the same bus? I heard someone say something like that, which would mean that my external harddisk would run on 400 when I connect a FW400 interface to the 400 port. I tried my best to read as much as I could about Macs and specs over the past few months, but I feel like I know too little about above mentioned issues to decide on the new versus the old iMac.

I have recently bought an iMac (Intel Core 2 Duo) and would like to connect it to my stereo (Sony digital audio/video control centre STR-K785 which is set up around my TV) in the same room.
I am wondering whether I should just use cables (would be awkward and messy) or whether I can use any of these devices which I have and whether they would be any good?
Time Capsule (with an Airport Express?) PS3
Beyonwiz (high def PVR which seems to have networking capabilities)

I have lost the use of my Matshita DVD-R UJ-85J. I purchased my computer in 2006, had optical disc drive replaced in 2009 and iafter three years of limited use, the second one will no longer burn discs...I have tried all of the options available on this site....so I think I am going to invest in an external burner, a La Cie. However, would it be possible for me to store some of my music and photos on a zip drive? I have never used them before and wonder if this computer will work with them. My iPhoto is so full and I want to remove some of the pics and store them.

Have a large iTunes library on my iPhone. I want to migrate all of it to our new iMac (Intel using 10.7). I have two accounts on the iMac, mine and my wife's, which have been set up to share the music (iTunes) library. When I sync my iPhone into my account on the iMac in order to sync the music library it gives me a message that if I sync the music all the items on the iPhone will be replaced with the music library on the computer. However, there is no music library on the iMac as yet. How do I get the iPhone music on the iMac so my wife and I can share the library?
