OS X :: External HD Won't Convert / Get Around It?
Apr 17, 2010
I bought a new external hard drive, and followed the following instructions to convert from PC to Mac (Disk Utility- Erase- Mac OS Journaled). However, during the conversion process the following message appears and stops the process: "Disk Erase failed with the Error: File System formatter failed."
Is there another way to convert? Why is this message appearing and how do I get around it?
i just removed my internal dvd drive to install an extra hdd to my macbook pro, but i want to give some use to my removed internal dvd drive by making it external, is this possible? which would be the ideal enclosure to do so? (by looks, size, portability)
I got an external drive (NTFS). I want to use it for mac. Do I just partition it into 2 partitions? Or do I need to Erase it into one Mac Journalled volume first? I am erasing it now, it says its gonna take 12 hours. Or is erasing the first step. And then partitioning is the second step. Two distinct processes/operations, right? (I basically want two partitions on it, both OSX journalled. One for super super, and the other to maybe try sandbox or just storage or maybe time machine.
I was going to buy the retina, then due to inability to upgrade decided on the 2.3 GHZ 15". I then dropped in 16gigs of ram and now I am going to ddrop in a 750GB Seagate Momentus XT 2.5" 7200RPM / Solid State Hybrid SATA (Serial-ATA) Drive, This is one fast HD. Now I have one fast little ol mac with 16gigs ram as opposed to the recommended 8, a hybrid HD with a 8 gig ssd and my question is "how do I convert the internal HD that I am taking out, to be a great little external hd", what is the best either firewire 800 or usb 3 external case that I can place it in?
I wonder if anybody knows how to convert flash files (swf/fla) to one of the standard files for video as in .avi, .mpeg or even .mov. I have exported via Flash 8, but the problem is: It doesn't keep the vectors function. so I have only a video with all flat images and no movement at all. It's just the program creating a bunch of jpeg and joining them all to create a movie effect.
I have a book that is separated into 1000 different swf files and i was wondering if there is any software that is able to batch convert them to pdf? Doing each one manually takes too long.
Yeah, so I've been having some issues trying to convert .wmv files into files that I can place into idvd/imovie/etc (such as .mov or .avi) but I can't find any programs that accomplish this task. Bit of background, I'm a college student so obviously, money is tight - So I was curious as to if there is a freeware program (or even a shareware one) that will accomplish this task.
find a freeware program to convert a non-copyright WMA file into an MP3 I can import into my Mac's iTunes?
I looked on versiontracker and found 2 but one turned out to be a dumb demo that would only allow 12 seconds of conversion, and the other one looked like it was meant for something else
there is an easy way to batch convert a folder containing lots of Microsoft Word (.DOC) files to PDF format? I know I could do this one-by-one in Word itself - but it would be very time consuming. I was hoping that there would be some part of the OS X system that could do this.
I've been searching and searching and all I can find is converters for PC, none compatible with MAC.
I've been recording my lectures with my phone and they play in quicktime but i have a couple others in my iTunes and i'd like to have them all together.
I have converted two .avi files on my MBP to the .iso file. Then I open up the two files and they become the Audio_TS and Video_TS folders. However, when I try and drag those to Toast, and try to burn the files, Toast always gives me an error. My question, how do correctly convert .avi files to dvd format so I can burn to a blank DVD? I want more than one .avi file converted to dvd format on each DVD.
I recently received a dvd from a meeting with lectures that are in flv format. I would like to convert them for use in iTunes so that they are accessible on the iPhone. A few issues:
The DVD is built in multiple folders. For example Content / lecture 1204 / video / xxxxxx.flv Content / lecture 5302 / video / xxxxxx.flv
So the first (and biggest) hurdle is whether I can easily 'grab' all of the flv files (buried in their respective folders) to one directory on my macbook. I then need some advice on converting the flv tracks to mp4 ones. I may opt to go the Quicktime Pro route unless handbrake is capable of this as well.
I am an audio transcriptionist. I am new to mac. For my transcription I use a program called ExpressScribe [URL]. It works great on mac. I need this program because it allows me to use my foot pedal. Using a foot pedal increases my speed. Increased speed means increased salary. Here's the problem: I have a rush file due tomorrow. It came to me in an .wmv format. I cannot ask for it to be converted. This file automatically downloads into quicktime. I have to convert this file to an mp3 so I can open it with my ExpressScribe. I tried using "switch" (offered by the same company that brought me ExpressScribe), however because the file downloads automatically into quicktime I don't know what to do. I need to find a way to save this to my desktop as an mp3 or open it in itunes.
Just got my Macbook Pro a few weeks ago.... so I am new to this world. I was wondering if there is a free program or an easy way to convert Flac files to MP3's for my iPod or iPhone?
All my Google searches give results on how to convert a WAV file to MP3 in iTunes...but iTunes 9 is different and the steps are not applicable. Anyone know how to do this?
I have an imac OS 9.2.2 and would like to transform it into an OS X.Is there any possibility to get a free mac OS X download that I can get through the Internet ?
can any off you recommend a good program like vso convertxtodvd on the mac ? i.e one that converts avi to be able to watch on dvd players on tv? convert then separately burn - especially now that idvd is not shipped with new macs !
I friend wanted me to update his company's website which runs on a MS Exchange Server/Sharepoint set up. He zipped all the html, jpeg, and assorted text files and attached that zip file to an email. When I received it on my Mac it had been converted to a ".dat" file. He tells me that this is the result of sending a zipped file over the MS Exchange Server mail system to a Mac. (Whatever happened to cross-platform?)
Is there a Mac utility I can use to convert this dat file back to a zip file that I then can open on my Mac?
Info: MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.7.2), Intel i7, 15inch
I have MP4 files in iTunes which I want to play on my old iPod which only plays MP3's. I realise I will lose the video, but how do you convert the files to MP3 in iTunes? "Create MP3 Version" is greyed out on the advanced menu when I try to do it that way?
