View 6 RepliesWhen at home I use a 30" 2560x1600 display and as you can imagine, it has quite a bit of real estate for windows. So when I'm at home I'd prefer to not use Spaces since it doesn't give me any extra. However, at work I use a 24" 1920x1200 and when on the move I use my Macbook Pro's 1280x800 display and on those Spaces is highly beneficial. So is there any way to set up a keyboard shortcut to enable or disable Spaces so I don't have to go uncheck Enable Spaces in System Preferences?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI wondered if it is possible to disable the expose and spaces while playing games? My issue is this: I have 4 spaces enabled and set left top corner to activate spaces switch. When I play RTS for example I put mouse in that corner to move the map a bit, but spaces keep activating and Im loosing the game. It annoys the hell out of me, but If I deactivate it from System preferences then I have to assign all over again which software I want to be in what space.

The safari memory leak problem has been so bad that i decided to use chrome instead(im a first time mac buyer and gt my mbp 15 a week ago)
Just a few questions. Does chrome has any problems running in osx? it was pretty good in windows compared to FF and IE.
Is there any plugins that allows u to disable flash and allow u to remotely enable it? Just like ClickToFlash in safari.
I am repeatedly running into the problem where as I'm trying to move clips in Logic by clicking and dragging to the right, I accidentally trigger Spaces which thinks I want to move something to the space to the right of the one I am currently in. (Is this making sense - am I explaining it ok?) So instead of moving my clips to the right I end up in another space. This is of course not what I want. I never use spaces since I always just hide apps I'm not using, and navigate back to them with Cmd+Tab. So I wouldn't mind disabling Spaces.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm running the latest MacOS X on my new MacBook Pro. What I'd like to do is have the screensaver get automatically disabled when I view videos, and then to have it re-enabled when I am finished viewing.
Under Linux, I accomplished this by wrapping the invocation dialog of my video viewer in a script which turns off the screensaver, runs the viewer, and then turns on the screensaver again when the viewer exits. Is there a way to do something similar under MacOS X? ... maybe with AppleScript?
Yes, I know that I can manually turn off the screensaver, view the video, and the turn the screensaver back on. And I also know that I can move the mouse or interact with the keyboard periodically when viewing. However, I don't want to have to do either of these things ... I'd like this to be fully automated, if possible.
I commonly work with remote desktops (using Citrix) on Windows servers from my MacBook Pro. The apps I commonly use require the use of Function keys. I know I can go into System Preferences to change how they work (turning the Fn option on or off), but this is difficult to do with the frequency I need to. When I'm not remoted in, I prefer to keep my keys as the normal Mac functions. Is there a utility for my Menu Bar that will let me quickly toggle this option, without needing to go into System Preferences each time? I looked up FunctionFlip, but it does individual keys, and no longer has a Menu Bar icon.

I've looked thoughly to find the answer online, system preferences and here with no luck. I recently updated my software to Mac OS X 10.7.4. Now the menu bar is automatically hiding, but reapearing when I mouse over and the screen in all windows are too wide and long. When I click the 'green' icon for resizing the window, it sizes it too wide and long. I am not in full screen and do not have enlarge on (COMMAND +) and i've check the display settings. Maybe Mac added this as a feature with the update thinking people will like it but I don't like it at all, my typing in an email is not visable on the right. Can someone please tell me how to turn this feature off? Also the resolution/clarity of my screen is not as good since the update.

I have a bluetooth mouse and keyboard that I want to share between a PC and MBP via a DVI/USB KVM switch. I think I can do this by plugging a USB Bluetooth dongle into the KVM's USB input.
If I use the MBP's built-in bluetooth then when I switch from one computer to the other via the KVM, the keyboard and mouse will stay paired with the MBP; but if I disable the built-in hardware then the dongle can provide the bluetooth capability and be switched between the computers.
I've realized that sometimes I "lose" my wireless signal. I am not using an AirPort router (I'm using Linksys, if that's at all helpful). I've noticed that suddenly all of the wireless signals disappear from the AirPort menu up on the menu bar, except the network that I am connected to (i.e., I only see my router's name there). It also becomes impossible for me to browse the internet, so what I've done to troubleshoot this is disable the AirPort, put the computer to sleep, and disconnect/reconnect my router. When I turn it on, it seems to work. I've also tried simply disabling and then re-enabling AirPort, but it doesn't work after that.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI recently bought myself a Macbook Pro 13-inch model and I've been loving it so far. One thing that really bugs me is how bad the menu navigation is in OS X. I just read this on Macrumors and the only way to access menu from keyboard is by using ctrl+F2 key for which I have to press ctrl+fn+f2 key since F2 is a secondary function. Also, there is no way of going directly to the middle of the menu by keyboard shortcuts, right? If that is true, Mac OS X is still not polished enough for laptops. is there are a better way to control the menu items?

View 2 Replies View RelatedSo i know this is gonna be a challenging one...
After a day of installing and trying/deleting new apps as well as trying terminal tricks from UsingMac.com like these and these, i went up to my apple menu in the menu bar for the first time since i started fiddling around, and it looks like what you see below in the attachment. I have absolutely no idea what made it happen; I'm just wondering if there is a way to reset the menu alone. because instead of having just what it says in the "system services" section in the menu, it has all that other stuff as well (Calculator, FruitMenu, etc.).
P.S.: Fruitmenu isn't even installed. i uninstalled it after i found out it was only a demo.
So basically:
1) how do i restore the main menu in the menu bar back to its original settings?
and 2) I need to do it in a way that wont screw up the rest of my computer or settings
I never really bothered using SPACES before - thought it was kinda pointless really.
Then the other day I messed around with it - and now I get it It really is a nice feature!
The only thing that worries me, is whether it is a huge resource hog ? Activity Monitor doesnt really show how much cpu it takes...
Whenever I try to assign jDownloader to one of my spaces it shows it but when i click on it nothing happens. Does anyone have any idea why this might be happening?

View 12 Replies View RelatedHowever, I found a problem. I have 16 spaces. But the keyboard shortcuts only allow me to jump to Spaces 1 - 9 with (Ctrl or ^ - (Space No.)) For example, if I were to jump to Space 8 from any space I would press ^ - 8. However, how do I use the shortcut for 10 - 16? I tried pressing ^ - 10. But it simply brings me back to Space 1 as it recognizes the first digit only.
View 5 Replies View Relatedi was wondering if their is any way to use spaces independent of each monitor,
meaning that if space 1 was on monitor 1, and space 2 was on monitor 2, i could switch monitor 2 to space 3 while keeping monitor 1 on space 1.
i feel that this will be a better way to use spaces with multiple monitors, rather than many extended desktops.say you want internet work on one space, then different word documents on 2 other spaces. if you could switch between those documents while keeping the internet on the same space.i know that this can be sort of accomplished be setting apps to appear in every window, but that is a hack and annoying solution.this would be a great addition to 10.3 - more customization!
I can't use f8 for spaces shortcut...? and yes i have enable spaces ticked and f8 to activate spaces... perhaps i am missing something?
