I need to move from mobile.me to iCloud. The operating system on my macbook pro is 10.6.8 Snow Leopard, however Lion is required. Do I need to upgrade to Lion and can I upgrade for free? Or can I transfer without on my current OS?

I've backed up all the data I need to from my MobileMe family pack accounts, revised personal details where needed at appleid.apple.com for 5 accounts. Last night I was ready to move the least used family pack subaccount as a test.I've seen this before but have never followed the options
My devices include original iPhone/iPhone3G, iPhone4S, iPad original (iOS 4 - not keen on upgrading to iOS 5 on this as all I need works fine - it hs no camera for Photostream), new iPad. I have various Macs running Snow Leopard and Lion. Consequently the 2nd option seems logical. Just in case hitting Next completed the process without confirming I contacted support. My specific 2 questions were:
1 - If I choose 2nd option do I miss out on any features on fully compatible devices or Lion computers?
Initial response seems to be no
2 - Do I need to fully upgrade somehow if at some point in the future I have no legacy devices/OS versions?
In response to 2 however I'm told it'll happen automatically on June 30th but won't be able to use iCloud until after the 30th on compatible devices. I'm very confused at this point and don't see the point of the options - why not just allow legacy access for everyone after the 30th on devices or OS where needed?

I successfully moved my mail, bookmarks, calendars, and address book from MobileMe to iCloud yesterday.Per the advice provided here on the forum, I deleted my existing pop mail (i.e., Earthlink) from Mail on my computer before the move. (I kept it on my iPad and iPhone and it appears to be working fine). can I add this pop account back in my desktop mail program so I can both mail accounts in the same place like before?

why Mobile Me need me move my files out befor end of June?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI am letting my mobile me email account expire, as I have switched internet providers and have free email on comcast.
Per their chat person, they do not have a way to transfer my mobile me emails to my new comcast account. ( If the mobile me account was not expiring, I could link the two. )
So, what is the best way to still be able to access my old emails?
I thought of backing up my mobile me emails, but the apple back up will still be "going away" from what I understand. Or can I save that backup copy to my mac and still access it somehow?

I'll be moving to iCloud on a new iMac running 10.7 soon. My main email is a mac.com address and my wife and daughter each have an 'email only' account associated with that. We need all those to continue to work. Does it matter which account we move first? I am worried something might get lost if we move the wrong one first. They are both running older macs so won't be able to get full icloud, but only need access to email at the moment.
Also, I currenty use use entourage and collect email using POP - I gather this will no longer be possible and I'll have to use IMAP, which I'm not familiar with - anything I need to bear in mind making that change? I'm currently in two minds whether to move to Mail or Outlook

I have iphoto08 on a couple of computers and just got a new Mac with iphoto09. In 08, there was a button for mobileme in the preferences window and it would update all the mobileme photos as well as put them in my events. I do not see that button in 09 and did not know if there was a way to be able to put the photos in the iphoto library on the new computer without having to download them from the mobileme site.

View 2 Replies View RelatedWith Mobile Me Gallery going away June 30th, how can you share your photos with friends and family like you did with Mobile Me Gallery?
View 5 Replies View RelatedEach of my MobileMe Gallery albums have been synced to my Mac, I see all of them in my iPhoto v8.1.2 (Snow Leopard). I'm not clear if they will still be on my Mac when MobileMe expires on June 30 so I want to move the albums to Photos in my iPhoto. The instructions I found in Apple's Support area say once photos are downloaded I can drag & drop them to Photos in the left hand column to ensure they are in my main iPhoto library. I can't seem to make that happen. Tried clicking on one album and dragging it to Photos - didn't work. Tried selecting all photos in one album and dragging the group to Photos - didn't work. I'm sure this is basic stuff to most but I am still fairly new to Mac. will the contacts & calendar in my iPhone & iPad continue to sync using iTunes after MobileMe expires? Presently not going to upgrade to iCloud or Lion.
