MacBook Air :: Playing Music Through Line Out For Chat Rooms?
Apr 24, 2012I participate in several on-line chat rooms that are multi-user camera chat. One example is camfrog. Another one is Paltalk. How can I set the Macbook air to play directly from the computer to the internet chat room, WITHOUT using the microphone and speakers? Effectively, this would be streaming music to the chatroom. On a PC, one has the option of setting up the sound card to play through a line out (as well as the speakers) and the line out replaces the Microphpne in the settings. This will play any sound your sound card is playing, including movie sounds, music, or a podcast - any time the mic button is selected in a chat room.

Jun 25, 2014My computer has recently started auto dimming when in darker rooms of the house, i know its an issue with the light sensor because I've held a flashlight to it and it instantly brightens, however, i have unchecked the "automatically adjust brightness" box in the system settings and it continues to dim it's self even when unchecked and brightness is on full. It isn't the result of any recent updates, as there haven't been any in some time and it's only started in the last two weeks.

I'm driving a 30" Apple Cinema Display with no problems but occasionally, when encoding video or playing full screen games, the card emits a high pitched tone akin to a smoke alarm tone but continuous. When discontinuing the encoding or stopping the game, the tone stops.

Apr 25, 2009Background: A day or two after plugging a USB that had been plugged into a virus ridden PC into my Mac, the internet went berserk. My father told me that he thought it was the USB that had messed the internet up. A few days later, he said that the USB was fine, it was just that Apple came out with a Security Update that changed our router access password (we cannot access our own internet because our password was being changed by a "Security Update"). So, in a kind effort to provide internet for me, he went into my Account Settings and changed my permissions so I was able to access the Application "Internet Connect". Well, I was able to run the application and connect to our internet, but I couldn't launch any applications that didn't either: a.)Come with the machine or b.)Need the administrator password to install.
The Problem: I cannot launch any applications that didn't need the administrator password or come with the system. I AM able to run Apps such as iChat, iTunes, Ventrilo(required administrator password) and Quicktime. I AM NOT able to run any of the games that I have downloaded, teamspeak, transmission, teamviewer, or any .dmg file. After two weeks of looking for possible causes and trying everything in our power, my dad and I can't find the cause of this. He has taken off all parental control and given me control of everything on my account, but still I can't launch anything.

Software :: Unable To Play Game - Requires Bus Speed Of 500MHz?
Apr 30, 2010I just bought a new iMac with 1 processor with a speed of 3.06 GHz, dual core, 4 gigs of memory, and a bus speed of 1.07 GHz.
I'm trying to run an old Tiger Woods golf game on it. When I put in the CD it says the game requires a bus speed of 500 MHz and at least 1 MB of disk space free and the game will not run.
Being brand new, the Mac has almost all of it's memory space available and the speed required (500MHz) for the game is well below the bus speed of my computer (1.07GHz). Any ideas why the game won't run?

iPhoto launches normally and without error in the main (original) user account.
When subsequent accounts are created and logged into, iPhoto is shown on the dock and finder with the generic app icon. When clicked, the icon bounces once, and nothing happens. All other iLife apps operate normally.
Once switched back to main user account, iPhoto icon shows normally in the dock/finder, and operates normally.

Jun 9, 2010I'm on a G4 running 10.4.11. Recent strange behavior include mouseovers invoking clicks; cycling windows (programs and finder.) These annoyances seemed to have fixed themselves after restart. Now, many (not all) of my preferences have been changed requiring manual reset: auto login on start-up; internet connection. But the most problematic is that my CS3 programs won't launch due to one reason or another (missing licensing permissions or files; different messages with each program.)
I launched Disk Utility (using both Safe Boot and the Install CD) but Repair Permissions failed with a No Valid Package message

It says various programs did not launch, such as dock, finder, iCal helper, and others. I can only get to the wallpaper, I can't see the menu bar, dock, or icons.
I also don't have a backup

Aug 28, 2009I didn't expect to have compatibility issues with this combination, but I am stuck. I was experiencing some small problems with Safari after upgrading: downloads would launch a new empty tab rather than an actual download, and I would get graphical glitches loading pages from top tabs - so I uninstalled Safari and downloaded a new copy. However, on re-installing, I get a message informing me that I need at least MacOS 10.5.8 installed...
Has anyone else found this? I did an upgrade install of Snow Leopard, and other than a few 3rd party apps being caught out, all is well, and I am enjoying an otherwise noticeably nippier system. As Safari was working previously (unsurprisingly), perhaps this problem stems from an OS compatibility flag within the Safari installer itself, similar to that found in 1Password recently, that could be altered within the installer package to allow installation - But I am guessing, and I don't see why I am having this issue in the first place given the amount of testing of Safari leading up to Snow Leopard.

When I log out I have to quit Safari and then log back in to the chat room. I've never had a problem like this before so I have no idea where to start. Jan 3, 2011I have two Time Capsules, TC1 and TC2. TC1 is the base unit, connected to the modem and broadcasting a wireless network from my bedroom. I want to set up the second Time Capsule, TC2, to pick up the in the living room. In that way, I can connect my TV through an Ethernet cable directly to TC2.I keep screwing this up. TC1 is set up to "create a wireless network," which it does. The security I'm using is WEP transitional, for 802.11a/n - 802.11b/g/n.Currently TC2 is set up as a bridge, but it only works when it's tethered directly through an Ethernet cable coming from one of the LAN ports on TC1 into the the singular WAN port on TC2. And it only works when TC2's wireless mode is "Create a wireless network." I've tried various bridge/wireless configurations but nothing quite works. I consulted Apple's pdf on "Designing Airport Networks 10-5" but the information on creating a WDS network doesn't apply. When I try to make TC1 the base unit for the WDS network, I don't get that option.

Sep 4, 2010 I'm a long-time Mac owner (this is my 4th) but new to Mac forums. I'm making the transition from playing action type games on a console system to playing games on my Mac (Madden, Call of Duty, etc). It sucks playing them without some kind of controller and I am looking hard at what's out there.
I have a MacBook Pro, 17", 2.66GHz Intel Core i7 processor, and 8 GB 1067MHz DDR3 memory.
So what are the best controllers that are currently available? Or would I be better served to wait a couple of months for something due out any time? I don't want to wait forever and I know that there will always be something better coming out, but if there is something revolutionary coming soon, I'd wait.

Nov 24, 2010I just got my new air and absolutely love it. I had seen pretty impressive graphics performance. What I didn't expect was the fan noise. I knew it was loud, but this thing sounds like the old G5's! It makes me kind of scared to play games to be honest. Are they going to substantially decrease the life of my machine? Do you think a laptop cooler would really help with this?
