I know the prevailing opinion is to move the Users folder (i.e. all home folders) off an SSD boot drive and onto an HDD in order to increase available space and avoid thrashing the SSD. However, it occurs to me that by moving the users folder the Library folder is also moved (~/Library/). Doesn't this compromise the speed increase gained from having an SSD? The application will start quickly but then have to wait for the HDD in order to load preferences.

My User Library folder has disappeared again. Using Go to Folder ~Library no longer works to get to my Domain.sites file.
I recently did a software update and it no longer works to find my Domain.sites file.

When I open Finder on my iMac, then click on my user name in the sidebar, I am not seeing the Library folder for my user name. I need to modify some of the application support folders for specific applications, but I cannot find them using Finder. These folders are specific to my user name and are not located within the Macintosh HD/Library folder for the entire computer.
They should be in the path Macintosh HD/Users/[my username]/Library/Application Support/[application name].
But for some reason, the "Library" folder doesn't even show up in Finder when I click on Macintosh HD/Users/[my username]. It's visible when I open one of the applications and use preferences to access folders in the application support folder for that application, but not when trying to get to the same location using Finder -- which I need to do in order to copy and paste some of the files.

With the update to OS-X 10.7.3 did anyone lose the entire Library folder from their user directory? I didn't notice until I started working on the installation of an application (beta version) and found the my entire ~/Library/ folder gone, all 57+ GBytes of it. I'm restoring it from Time Machine two days ago, but I wonder what happened with the update to completely remove it.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have manually backed up all my files under User folder without using any of system backup tool(due to technical issue, i have no other option rather than copying manually). I have erased all hard disk and would like to copy everything back to Macintosh. Then the problem is when I tried to copy old Library folder to Macintosh HD user folder, it is saying I need to input password to continue, then I entered password and it still says i don't have permission.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a hard drive on my 2008 MacPro that's problematic and so I bought a new drive and installed Mavericks on it and am booting just fine on the new drive. There is however, one folder in the Library/Preferences folder that I need to copy over to the new drive. All the tricks for accessing the Library folder work great on the start up drive, but I can't seem to access the Library folder on the old drive (both drives in the MacPro as it has 4 drive bays), even though the drive will mount. How can I see that Library folder on the old drive? Note while I can mount the old drive, I can't boot to it.Â
View 1 Replies View RelatedIt appears that the Library folder that is in the Home Folder (e.g./Users/Home/Liberary)has been made invisible in OS 10.7.x. However I have seen it because after converting samples Logic showed me the folder and its contents. I would very much like to move the samples from their present location in this folder on the startup disk to the EXS 24 samples folder on the external RAID array that is dedicated to this purpose - - but I don't know how to make the Library folder visible.

I have just installed Snow Leopard on my MacBook, and now all my applications have disappeared from my desktop plus I can't access to my User folder which contains everything including CS4 package. It tells me that I don't have permission to access these folders, which there is only 1 account user on this Mac. Â
Help!!! What do I do to get a permission to use my old folders from Leopard (10.5)?  And yes, I have backed up everything on my external hard drive before I installed this Snow Leopard! I was assured that I won't lose everything when I have loaded this on, only difference is the software is updated and newer apps but now I can't look into anything I had on my Mac! Â

In Office 2008, you can move "Microsoft User Data" in "Documents" folder to "~/Library/Preferences/".
In office 2011, this trick does not work. Whenever I move "Microsoft User Data" to "~/Library/Preferences/", it will be re-created in "Documents" again.
How do I see the Library Mail folder? I did it once before with a tech when I had to restore my mail. I need to find an attachement with a potential virus threat and delete it.

- I pasted a folder (named mymusic) full of music files (mp3) and movie files, to my Mac Book Pro (MBP).
- I opened iTunes for the fiirst time and asked iTunes to search for media files and orgnaized the library with "Reorganized files int the folder iTunes Media".
- So Now I have two folders containig the same files. One is in the iTunes Media Folder, and the other one is the original folder (mymusic).Â
Can I delete the original 'mymusic' folder? If I delete mymusic folder, will all my music remains safe in the iTunes Media folder? If Yes, then what about the artwork (album cover image)? I put album covers images in mymusic folder. If I delete the folder, will the cover image stays safely in iTunes Media folder?Â

I'm currently migrating all of my programs to a new account after experiencing problems with the account I was using and I was wondering what would be the best way to migrate my iTunes library. What I want to do is basically use my existing iTunes library with a new user account, my library is in an external drive.
What would be the best way to use my existing iTunes account with my new user account?
It appears to not to be backed up by Time Machine - which can not show anything earlier than the latest version. It contains items that suggest that it is regularly used by Apple software (e.g., Safari - for bookmarks?)It appears to be used by some manufacturers (e.g., Garmin) for device software updates - including a very large one that used 2.3 GB and stayed there after the Garmin map update was installed. (I was running low on hard drive space, so I took a deep breath and deleted that 2.3 GB file)What negative consequences could occur from deleting items from that Caches folder? (Caches may be seen in Time Machine by opening the user's "home" older in Finder, holding down the option key while clicking Go then Library, then clicking Caches, then Entering Time Machine. After the window settles down, only the latest Caches window and one other mysterious item will remain.) I am using OS 10.7.3 on a MacBook with 1.83 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, purchased in December 2006.

I am trying to upgrade my apps. When I go into the store, it prompts me for my username and password. It's defaulting to a different user - why?? When I enter my Apple ID / password, I receive the following error message:
This update is not available for this Apple ID either because it was bought by a different user or the item was refunded or cancelled.
If you click on your mac HD icon and go into the 'users' folder. Ther eis an icon with a house. This is what I think is called the 'home' folder. Usually, there is a folder in the 'Home' folder called 'Library' and I cant seem to locate it. Where did it go?

My wife and I just got a new Mac and are looking to each have their own login for mail, web/bookmarks, etc. but we want to have our media shared so that both users can login and see the same iTunes Library.
Additionally I want to make sure if say one person buys something from iTunes that the other would automatically be able to see it in their library (and wouldn't have to manually add the files/folders).
Lastly, we both use Lightroom and Photoshop and I need to make sure that we can access each other's files in a single location and that we won't get locked out.
I would like to be able to share my iPhoto library with my wife (another user) on the same machine. The only way I have been able to find to do this is to write some unix programming language in the OS. I dont really want to do this. Is there an easier way to share my library with another user? Will iPhoto buddy do this, or another separate application?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a single iTunes library on my Macbook Pro. I would like to share between to user accounts, each with Apple ID's. What's the best way to do so? Right now, I've given the second user rights to read/write to the first users "Music" folder. But when one user adds song files, the other must "Add Folder" in order to see the new purchases. It's kind of putsy. Is there a better way?Â

In user/library/pubsub/feeds: the Feeds folder contains a gazillion items and I am not sure what they are. I am also not clear on the definition of the pubsub folder and what feeds are. Is it some sort of cache that I can get rid of on a routine basis? I am one to keep things clean and know that SL does a lot of its own maintenance and I don't mess with the system or system library folders. Just at times in my user folder, only when I know exactly what I am doing.
