I recently had my power adapter stop working and I was thinking of taking it in for repairs. The thing is that I'm not 100% sure its the adapter that came with my computer because a bunch of friends have the same laptop and we might of got the adapters mixed up.Anyways my question is, is there a serial/unique identifier on that adapter that is paired with your computer?

My reason for asking is that 4 months ago my sisters G5 17" logic board supposedly got replaced with a new or refurbished logic board but it seems by the workmanship of the board something fishy is going on.
I've got an old Palm Vx that, before I recently bought my iMac, was synced to a PC using a cradle w/a cable that connects into a serial port. The iMac obviously has no serial ports, so I looked online and found a USB to Serial adapter cable - brand was Cables to Go. BUT, it doesn't seem to work - I've not yet achieved a recognized connection on the iMac, and the cable documentation talks only about Windows. Anyone have any suggestions for cables specifically designed to work with an iMac?

I think the title pretty much explains it all. I'm wondering if there's any harm that would come from leaving the power adapter plugged in all the time, but without the MacBook connected some of the time. Would a Radeon 3870 Mac Edition be compatible with a PC purchased 3870x2 for crossfire under windows? I've heard that standard 3870s for PC (such as the Sapphire) are recognized in OS X and Windows when paired with a Mac Edition 3870.
I can buy a 3870 Mac Edition for a good price, but am curious if I opted for an X2 on top of my single 3870 would give any significant improvements over two Mac Edition 3870s paired together? And more importantly, would it work? Also, is the Mac Pros (2007) PSU enough to power a 3870x2 and a 3870 at once?
I'm upping the RAM in two PowerMac G5's. One is an early 2005 DUAL 2G. The other is the later 2005 DUAL 2.3. They currently have the stock RAM that came with them: 512MB for the Dual 2.0G; and 1GB for the Dual 2.3. I'd like to get them both up to between 2-4GB's each. I'm willing to go with third party RAM if it's at all compatible, ya' know the Kingston kinda stuff. That's all I can afford to bring them up to par with RAM.
Is there any standard compatibility issues when running RAM outside of OEM stuff? Also, does the RAM need to be paired? or even numbered? For example, if I had 2GB+512MB of RAM in one machine would this work? Do they have to be even in slot usage? Also, if third party compatible, would any matching spec RAM work or is there something "APPLE" specific about RAM? Example: G5-dual 2.3 requires 533MHz DDR2 SDRAM (PC2-4200).... would any matching spec RAM work?

So I have recently set up (and eventually got working!!) an Extreme paired with three Airport Express units as well as an Apple TV (latest Generation). Only problem I have is that in one of my rooms (the one furthest away from the Extreme) the Express is struggling a bit and on Air Tunes the signal drops out quite frequently when playing music. So I am considering adding another "wired" Extreme upstairs to this room to cover that end of the house. In addition I was thinking of putting another Express in my sons room - to also cover the garden.
My question is - is there a limit to the number of units you can have talking to one another _ I think they are working in WDS configuration (the wizard took care of it eventually so I don't know for sure) - and I am sure i read somewhere that you can only have 5 devices running in a WDS network? Would the Apple TV be classed as a device or is that simply a wireless client?

I'm trying to dial into a conference bridge via Facetime on my iMac through my paired iPhone. I have no problems with regular calls this way but I can't get Facetime to make the correct tone through the # key. I've also tried Continuity Keypad and this doesn't work either. Is there a way to make the # key make the correct tone?

I have a number of hard drives I have used over the years to back-up my photos from my memory cards and would now like to create a single ("master") drive with a single copy of each photo I have taken. Unfortunately there is a far bit of overlap on the multiple drives - that is, the same exact photo has been backed up to more then one drive and quite possibly in a different directory location. Is there a program for the Mac that will compare what is already on the "master" drive and just copy over the unique photos from each separate hard drive?

I use Spaces often and really want to be able to customize/rearrange my desktop items unique to each Space. I keep all my work/school items in one space and media applications in another - I'd like to do the same with my desktop icons.
I've always wondered this: I know when you mount a drive (USB stick, FireWire external or even an iPod of some sort) in OS X, a few invisible files get created. And if you have an AV program, sometimes it will write files to the drive. Same with some other third party apps. Do any of these files contain personal information, or things unique to the machine? Like user name or directory structure or things of that nature? I assume they don't, or else you'd probably see it mentioned more often, but I was wondering if anyone had a definitive answer..?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have iTunes 11.2.2, and I've recently made use of iTunes' "disc x of y" feature, instead of entering the disc number in the album title like I used to. I made this change because putting disc numbers in the album-title field makes the two discs appear as two separate albums, with the artwork appearing twice, which I didn't want. The downside of using the "disc x of y" feature, however, is that for double albums where the two discs have unique titles, rather than the default "disc one" and "disc two" -- say, for example, the Red Hot Chili Peppers' album Stadium Arcadium, where the discs are called "Jupiter" and "Mars" -- there is no way to label the disks with their unique titles and still keep them within one album entry. I don't want to put these titles in as a comment or anything like that either. What I'm really wondering is whether it is possible to write a script that would allow me to change where it reads "disc 1" to a unique title, at least within the album section of iTunes.
