OS X :: Leopard Install And IPhoto Empty

Sep 3, 2009

I lost my photo, all of them. It is definitely my fault. Here's what happened. I did a clean install of SL and transferred all my stuff over from an external drive(TC). I then dropped all my photos into iPhoto. They were all there. I then deleted my originals from the desktop. I assumed that a new folder was created with the photos in it in my pictures folder.

I also erased my TC to make room so I could start doing backups again. Well, just now I realized that iPhoto is empty because I accidentally deleted the photos. I've lost years of pictures. Can I pull off the photos from my iPod or iPhone? There is a problem, neither of those devices have been connected to the computer since the SL install. How I can get those pictures back to my computer.

OS X Mountain Lion :: Cannot Install It On Empty Drive

Aug 28, 2014

My father try to install the OS onto a newly installed internal drive on his Mac Pro. He's trying to install Mountain Lion, which is the same OS X generation as his usual boot drive (which is remaining in the system—the new drive is getting an OS as a backup boot drive).

The problem is that the Mountain Lion installer, downloaded from the App Store, refuses to install on the new drive. The drive, which is formatted but otherwise empty, does not appear as an available drive to install on.

My father believes that this is related to the note in the System Requirements saying that the Mac being installed on must already have Snow Leopard or Lion installed on it. I'm not so sure, but it's a valid question: can Mountain Lion be installed only as an upgrade, requiring an existing OS install on the actual drive being installed to?

My interpretation of the listed requirement is that you have to boot from Snow Leopard or later to do the install, because the installer has to contact the App Store, but the requirement is worded ambiguously enough that it could mean that the drive itself must have Snow Leopard or later on it. It doesn't make sense to me, though, for this installer to be useable only as an upgrade; there are numerous situations under which a person might need to install an OS on an empty drive.

OS X :: Unable To Install Safari 4.0.3 / Downloads Launch New Empty Tab Rather Than Actual Download

Aug 28, 2009

I didn't expect to have compatibility issues with this combination, but I am stuck. I was experiencing some small problems with Safari after upgrading: downloads would launch a new empty tab rather than an actual download, and I would get graphical glitches loading pages from top tabs - so I uninstalled Safari and downloaded a new copy. However, on re-installing, I get a message informing me that I need at least MacOS 10.5.8 installed...

Has anyone else found this? I did an upgrade install of Snow Leopard, and other than a few 3rd party apps being caught out, all is well, and I am enjoying an otherwise noticeably nippier system. As Safari was working previously (unsurprisingly), perhaps this problem stems from an OS compatibility flag within the Safari installer itself, similar to that found in 1Password recently, that could be altered within the installer package to allow installation - But I am guessing, and I don't see why I am having this issue in the first place given the amount of testing of Safari leading up to Snow Leopard.

Windows On Mac :: Install Win7 Via Bootcamp - Window Partition Shows Empty

Dec 29, 2009

I just upgraded my hdd a couple of mins ago from the 120 gig to a seagate 500gig , but before doing that i used "carbon copy cloner" to clone my old drive, as well as the 8gig partition i had there where i used to keep my copy of snow leopard (easier that carrying the disk around).CCC cloned both partitions perfectly.I named them Mac and Mac-backupthen I created another partition using disk utility and named it Win - this is where i want to install win7 via bootcamp. The "Win" partition is totally empty.

ITunes :: Sync Contacts Empty And Sync Mail Accounts Empty/dimmed?

Apr 11, 2012

I use iCloud for syning Mail & Notes. Contacts, Calendars and Documents & Data. I am 100% sure that in the past in iTunes/Info tab "Sync contacts" and "Sync Mail Accounts" showed all my different Address Book groups and different email account to be synced. Since recently they seem disappeared and I only see my different Calendars to be synced. Why are both Sync contacts empty and Sync Mail Accounts both emtpy/dimmed. BTW if I check Sync contacts I get a message that they are synced through iCloud etc. etc. Now if I enable on my Mac another email account in Apple Mail it is not added to my iPhone/iPad anymore. How can I change that ?

OS X :: How Unsecure Is Empty Trash Compared To Secure Empty Trash?

Aug 31, 2009

I moved a bunch of files to the trash can after installing Snow Leopard, mainly backup files from OmniFocus.

I clicked Secure Empty Trash and over 500,000 items began deleting. These 500,000+ items deleted at the rate of 2-3 items a second. This would total 138 hours equaling over 5 days to Secure Empty the trash.

This is just ridiculous in my option so I just did the "Empty Trash" feature, showing me only 350 items, which deleted quickly in under 5 minutes...

So far I know with Secure Empty Trash that the trash is securely layered with 0's & 1's....but wonder what happens with just "Empty Trash?"

How easily accessible is it for someone to retrieve something that i've deleted?

OS X :: Secure Empty Trash Regain GB's But Not Empty Trash...?

Jan 13, 2010

I've noticed that when I "Secure Empty Trash" though it takes longer, I usually regain a lot of gigabytes back. Currently, as of this post i'm "secure emptying trash" and i've regained about 25GB's which sounds about right considering there was about that much worth of video recordings from my video camera I no longer needed.

In the past when I've just "deleted trash" i've seen different results. If I have say 10GB's in the trash and I just "empty trash" then i'll maybe gain back like a GB or 2. ...if anything.

So, my concern is...say currently with the 25GB amount of trash I have, If I decided to just "empty trash", I obviously would not have gained back all the 25GB's..., perhaps just a few, guessing something like 5GB.

Well, does that mean that those GB's that are emptied in the trash (not securely) are just lost forever?

..Or will I regain those GB's the next time around (say weeks later) I securely empty the trash with whatever happens to be in there (all new stuff in the trash)?

Am I making sense?

Kinda confusing to me cause I don't understand it. But I feel it's vital for me to get this and have the most amount of gigs available on my Mac now that i'm using about 30GB's per week filming stuff and editing it on iMovie.

MacBook Pro :: Can't Empty The Trash

Apr 24, 2012

When I empty my trash using the icon my computer has a major crash and the screen goes grey and I have to reboot from the power button. If I secure empty trash using alt/opt, cmd clicking the trash icon I get the following message:-   The operation can’t be completed because the item “.DS_Store” is in use. I've tried SUDO RM -RF ~/.TRASH/*  and enetering my password but it doesn't fix it I've tried chflags -R nouchg  then dragging items into terminal and that doesn't fix it

I've tried :- Open Terminal and enter this command:

rm -rf ~/.Trash/

Then right click the Finder icon in the dock while holding down the opt/alt key, select Relaunch.  Relaunching Finder will recreate ~/.Trash but this doesn't work either

MacBook Pro :: Using Secure Empty Trash

Oct 11, 2010

Basically, I am 'securely emptying my trash' as we speak. With that said, why exactly does it say that it currently has to empty around 400 something files? Does that include every single file I've deleted in the past, not using the 'secure empty trash'?

Also, once if I deleted my download history, not using 'secure empty trash', is there a way to retrieve it and use 'secure empty trash' to empty it once again?

I'm just a little confused about the 400 something files being deleted using 'secure empty trash'.

MacBook Pro :: The Trash Won't Open Or Empty Itself?

Apr 25, 2012

I've got a latest-gen MacBook Pro running on a fully-updated OSX Lion (last update check April 25, 2012).

For some time now, the Trash hasn't seemed to respond: when I click the Trash icon in the Dock, nothing happens (no window opens). When I right-click on it it shows me the normal menu, but when I click "Open", nothing happens; when I click "Empty Trash" nothing happens either (no progress bar even though the Trash must be rather full by now, no sound, the icon remains "full").

Besides, when I close my MacBook Pro with iTunes running (even though no song is playing), when I open the Mac, it sometimes happens that the Finder stops responding. It usually goes back to normal if I quit iTunes.

I've been having this problem where i can't simply "empty trash" and have to click on "secure empty trash" as it the only thing that appears !

To empty a trash can, it deletes 1 item per second and it's getting very tiring and long. Before, i didn't have the "secure empty trash" and wish to get the normal "empty trash"
