In order to install Windows 7 via bootcamp, do you have to use the full version of windows or can you use the upgrade disc to install? I figured I should ask before buying another license as I have an upgrade version of Windows 7 Pro that I don't use. I do own previous versions of Windows (all of them....just like I do Mac OS).
View 2 Replies View RelatedI Recently installed on my MacBook Pro (13-inch, Mid 2010) windows7 and then updated to windows8. I'm now unable to install Bootcamp on the windows OS due to compatibility issues.
Is there a specific version of bootcamp that may work and if yes where can I find it?

I'm new to the forum - I would usually just ask my boyfriend for help with this, but since it's his Christmas present I can't (lol) and this was my first stop for help!I'm trying to buy him Windows Vista for his Mac. He has an older 13" white Macbook, nothing special. He downloaded Snow Leopard for the 64 bit support, and has (as far as I'm aware) downloaded the drivers for Bootcamp and all that jazz. He has a version of windows now, but he needs a new one.
View 12 Replies View RelatedI just bought the high end macbook pro 13" (2.53 GHz) today and I have a question about which version of windows to install on the boot camp partition. I saw a couple of videos on youtube showing pretty smooth performance of GTA IV on a MacBook Alu 13" 2.4 ghz model using BootCamp Windows Vista SP1. I dont want to install Windows Vista SP1 just because of that video and I want to know which version could give me even better performance. Both official and unofficial windows versions of XP, 7 and vista are under consideration. I dont need windows for anything else, just for playing a couple of games.

I can partition the drive just fine, but when I go to install the software, the computer reboots and seemingly attempts to boot of of the CD. I get a black screen with the following prompt:

However I am unable to type either 1 or 2 in.
Question - how do I get started? I currently have Vista loaded on my BootCamp partition. Do I launch Vista, and run the Windows7 upgrade installation from Windows? Or do I do this from BootCamp?Note that this is an upgrade disc, not a full/initial install version.

I ordered Snow Leopard from Amazon for like $25 and then I found out that I qualified for an "Up-To-Date" version of the Snow Leopard that is like $9.95. Is there a difference between the two versions or are they the same thing. Because if they are the same thing I am just going to return the one that I got from

Used migration assistant to move my Blackbook apps and settings to the Air using a Time Machine backup from my Time Capsule - wirelessly. Two hours later (not terrible) and I'm using my Air with all my apps and setting - fantastic.
Question: My Blackbook also has a Bootcamp partition running Windows - is there a way to take that image and migrate it to my MB Air? I'd rather not have to purchase the Superdrive and re-install/setup the Windows OS on my Air....
after a lot of testing we have managed to clear everything around the topic of flashing stock PC X1900XT/512Mb (256Mb is NOT working!!) with MacPro EFI ROM. Thank you all guys at Strangedogs! It WORKS prefectlly! Ofcourse flashing card with MacPro EFI rom reenders card useless in regular PC, you have to flash it back with original bios to make it work in PC again. View 24 Replies View RelatedHas anyone tested this scenario? Since PC versions of the 3870 are cheaper than the PC+Mac version, I was wondering if I'd be able to crossfire the PC+Mac version, and a regular PC version. (Obviously I'd only be looking to run Crossfire on the Windows side.) Would this setup cause problems with either the OS X or Windows side? BTW, I've got the 2008 Mac Pro with 2 PCI-E x16 slots.
View 24 Replies View RelatedI just bought my wife a new Al MacBook and need to migrate her Treo 700p from her old Windows machine to the new Mac. I used to use Palm Desktop for Mac and know it is a little quirky and may have some issues with Leopard, so I'm trying to decide whether I should go down that path or just install Fusion and run the windows version in a VM. Anybody have any recommendations either way? She uses Palm Desktop only for syncing, so I don't need to worry about the Leopard iSync issues.

had a bootcamp partition which I eventually ended up removing again with the bootcamp assistant. Now I want to create the bootcamp partition again, and when I start up the assistant, there is a 5gb leftover partition of the old bootcamp it seems. I just can't resize it... I've tried anything as low as resizing it to 10gb to 100gb... both fails.I have more than 200gb free space.I have just run a full defrag with iDefrag I've tried to do fileoptimization with techtool pro v5
I tried using camptune (which only works if you already have a working bootcamp partition, which I dont.
im on a goal to resize my bootcamp partition... im running 10.6.4 with Win7 in Bootcamp... i made a mistake of only making a 80GB partition for windows 7.... now i want to make it bigger, i have read up on a number of methods but most are outdated and users report issues with windows 7 and SL so i'm a lil stuck... this is my idea
I have 120GB unused HDD space atm so could i.. back up my 80GB partition to a DMG with disk utility then delete the old partition making the whole 200GB unallocated space... then use the bootcamp utility to re occupy the space then use disk utilities restore option to restore the image of the 80GB to the new 200GB partition... would this work? if not has anyone got any other methods to use with 10.6.4 SL and Win7?
Bought an OEM version to use with bootcamp. Everything works fine up to the point where it is supposed to let me format the partition that bootcamp created. The XP installation just skips right from when I select the C:yatta-yatta/bootcamp partition and starts installing. So obviously the partition is not bootable... Does anyone know if this is because the OEM version of the OS or something else. I tried to reduce the size of the partition because I read a thread about FAT32 not playing well with disc sizes greater than 32Gb. Still didn't work...
View 2 Replies View RelatedI want to try out Windows 7. During this process though I deleted my winXP partition. When I went to create a new BootCamp partition in The BootCamp SetUp Assisstant, it failed to create the partition on my harddrive.
I was greeted with the error, "BootCamp SetUp assistant failed to yada yada yada, please backup and reformat your harddrive."
So my question is do I really have to reinstall Mac OS X? (I backup with TimeMachine so it won't be a big deal but still thats a very long process.) Do you guys have any tips or anything to get Mac OS X to partition my main HDD?
im kind of new to this and i was trying to get bootcamp to run and also the windows partition that runs on bootcamp through vmware fusion. ive installed and uninstalled like 12 times now in 2 days and its driving me nuts. no matter what i do i cant get it to work. maybe someone on here can give me some tips because im lost.
View 6 Replies View RelatedMaybe I'm just over thinking this, but Apple never posted a KB article about how to upgrade an existing bootcamp partition with the new snow leopard bootcamp 3.0 drivers. I'm assuming if you already have bootcamp 2.1 you boot up in boot camp and then insert the snow leopard disc in order to upgrade the drivers to 3.0 correct? Or do I have to erase my stupid bootcamp partition and reinstall it all over again using the new leopard boot camp assistant in order to get to 3.0?

Do you think i can last with just 64GB?
Option 1: Default $999 version (2gb, 64GB)
Option 2: 1099 - for 4GB ram and 64GB storage
Option 3 - 1199 for 2GB ram and 128GB Storage
Option 4 - 1299 for 4GB ram and 128 storage
Option 5 MAX OUT
I also have a 50 dollar gift card from apple. But it seems like if i want to save money, i should use macmall or amazon to save money on tax. What do you think? Since I"ll still have a macbook with large storage sitting at home. I wonder if I'll ever use more than 64GB. But because i'm a video whore, I can do it if I try. I don't want to be shot in the foot because everything is soldered. but at the same time, if I truly never use them...it's just a waste of money.
i just buy an new macbook? how do i tell if i have the new version software on it? like snow leopard?
