I'm looking to buy a second hand Mid-2009 Macbook from eBay. Everything looks great except I have seen that it has a combined audio in/out port. I record a lot of guitar, so how could I plug both my guitar in as well as monitor it through headphones? And if USB audio is the solution, will my playing and monitoring be in sync?

i have no sound coming through my headphone port on my macbook pro os x. I can hear my music through the internal speakers but when I plug in my speakers or headphones all i hear is static of the song if i put the volume full blast.

Recently I have noticed that I cannot get any sound from my mini display port when conencted to a TV. It did used to work. I get a perfect picture everytime but no sound. I've tested the mini-display port to HDMI cable on another mac and it works fine. I've bought another Moshi mini display port to HDMI connector and that also does not work. I tried this on 3 TV's and its all the same, picture but no sound. The HDMI option does not appear under system prefs, sound & output. The only options are internal speakers and soundflower 2ch & 16ch. I've tried uninstalling airfoil and still the same. I can't recall when it stopped working. I did attempt to install OS Lion but it crashed my mail so I restored to 10.6 through time machine.
17" MBP. 2.8 intel . 8 GB ram. 256 GB crucial flash drive. OS X 10.6.8. Think it is 2010 model.

Just received my new minidisplay port to HDMI to connect my macbook pro 2010 to my LCD. I did connect and got perfect image but I can get how to transfer the sound from the mac to the lcd.

I've been playing music through my iPod, of course not getting the full surround effect, but would love to be able to hook the Macbook up to this system, be it in full surround or not. Sound gets through the headphones great but, looking at Input Sound in the Sys Pref, the Line In device does not pick up any sound when I speak into the mic. If I switch it back to the Built-In Internal Microphone device it picks up my voice fine. In the Audio MIDI Setup, the Built-in Input device is selected as the device to be used for sound input.There is a switch on my headset to mute or unmute the mic and I've tried it in both positions. There is a volume dial on my headset (presumably for the headphones) and I've fiddled with that too. I've moved the Input volume for the Line In Audio Line-in port device all the way up and still it hasn't picked up a thing. I have a Mac os x Lion on a Macbook Pro and using a 3.5 mm mini-jack headset with two cables, one for the headphones and one for the microphone.

So, I'm looking for a mini displayport to HDMI adapter that supports sound. No extra USB or 3,5mm jack for sound.
It also would be nice if the product was available in Europe (Netherlands) otherwise the shipping cost are just too high.
today i bought the mini display port to HDMI Adapter at the Apple store. The video display is fine but there is no audio. I checked my preferences and there is no option for the TV's speakers. My macbook is from 2009 if this would make a difference.

View 2 Replies View RelatedHaving just migrated from 10.6.8 where this problem didn't exist, I don't know where or what might be causing this in 10.9.3.
I run the JRivers music program Media Center and the normal player feeds the digital stream out the usb port to my DAC. It has 2 modes, starting up with exclusive access and not starting with exclusive access. I have tried it both ways with identical results.
If I run music thru the JRivers app and out the usb and then stop the player to have a browser (safari or firefox) play a video, the audio portion of the browser audio is sent to the front panel speaker and not to the usb port.
This wasn't the case with 10.6.8 where I would switch back and forth frequently. Now I have to restart the mac in order to 'release' the usb port back to the browser.
That is until I run the Media Center over usb.
I have run Audio Midi Setup, to see if I can 'release' the usb port, to no avail.

Also I connected the Audio cable from my Headphone port in my laptop to PC/DVI Audio IN in the TV. Yes I got the pic and everything is good but no sound at all. How many of you would like to see a HDMI Port? Why the miniDisplay port? Why not remove ethernet jack and miniDisplay port and replace it with a HDMI port. That way one HDMI cable feeds digital video AND audio. Am I the only one thinking of this?

If I do that on my new mac mini and then hit More Info or whatever it says, then it just opens the info window for each file - it doesn't give me one where it says the combined amount of files, size and such. Is it possible to do this somehow?

I wanted to add a powered 7 port USB plus this belkin hub but don't know in what order.

I have been working quite happily with Mail and an imap gmail account for a couple of years until recently. Now I can no longer send attachments and if I try to forward an email that has a bit going on in it like a group-on email or something similar it won't send that either. I get a message Cannot send message using the server [URL]:(my emailaddress)[URL]Sending the message content to the server failed I have searched for answers all over the net, have tried google help pages that suggest I remove my email address from the outgoing server details but NOTHING works. Today I finally gave up on Apple Mail and tried entourage - same result in that I couldn't send anything with attachements but a different error message.
I hadn't changed anything when it stopped working and it can't be the settings because every now and then I get an attachment through. There is lots on the net but I haven't found anything that works or all the stuff I am reading is really old. and also, just to finally drive me over the edge I got sent an email with an attachment today that didn't come through onto my mac. If I go onto gmail via safari there is my attachment. In Mail, it doesn't even give me a hint that it's there

I have just ordered a new MacBook Pro and it does not have enough USB ports for my needs.If I have a USB 3.0 hub and I mix USB 2.0 and USB 3.0 peripherals on it, will the whole hub/computer USB 3.0 port be slowed down to USB 2.0 speeds?I am thinking back to Firewire, if you have Firewire 800 and 400 devices on the same chain, the whole chain slowed to Firewire 400 speeds.I don't think this is the same with USB but wanted some reassurance..

I have a Linksys Wireless Router and a Linksys Modem, the router is 6 years old or so 802.11b, how much faster would the Internet be if I had a combined Linksys wireless router/modem versus the 802.11b that I have now?
Would I see a huge difference? I am running my Macbook off it and an olde Toshiba laptop.
I am having issues with my Dual Band 1TB time capsule for some reason the damn ports won't forward I have enabled the correct settings with the ip address and the ports, but when I use a program to test if the ports are open they are always closed, regardless on pc or mac. Does anyone have a solution to this? I even reset my Time capsule to see if it would work, but no luck.
View 1 Replies View RelatedHere's the deal, I am so frustrated. I am trying to open port 59152 for Transmission on my Macbook Pro. I have the latest releases of everything, I am using an Airport Extreme base station with an older airport to boost my signal/connect my tivo w/out a wireless adapter.
I have managed to get it open in the past but there was an update or something a month or two ago and at first it was still open and then it closed. I don't know what changed with the update, all I know is that I did n't change anything.
I have granted permission for Transmission to accept incoming connections on the firewall, little snitch allows it too. I have lighthouse, which worked at first but now I don't even know why I bother having it run. I have the port mapped through the airport utility.
PLEASE don't say to go to portforward.com because they haven't updated the Airport section since Leopard came out, yet every search I do someone repeatedly tells the person needing help to go to [URL]
I am going to attach some screen captures so you can see what I've got going on and maybe point out something I've missed.
Relevant newbie to the mac world. I have a MBP late 2009. I bought a third party Mini display port to HDMI converter so I can hook the MBP to my 46" Samsung screen.
This works fine, no major issues here. However the picture is not great. I compared watching a standard definition TV show through the MBP then burnt it onto a DVD. The DVD (using the PS3 as my DVD drive, connected via HDMI) had superior quality than through the MBP.
Also the picture does not quite fill the screen. There is a small black border running all the way around the screen. Does not sound significant but when doing the same comparison as above, you notice the difference when via DVD the movie fills the screen. I have played around with the resolution settings. Those that fill the screen chop bits of the mac desktop off, so thats no good either.
So I am wondering why this is? Is it because the mini display port is not a DVI port, hence I am not getting true HD quality picture? How can I overcome this if at all. I'm thinking of getting a mac mini as a media hub/HTPC but want to ensure I dont encounter the same problems.
Right now I have an old router/modem. And I want to buy a new one that has QoS...i found Linksys WRT54GL. But it has no ADSL modem...So I am asking you, Is it possible to connect this linksys router to my router/modem? But in way, that the router/modem will no longer be a router, but only a modem.

View 1 Replies View RelatedThis started happening randomly earlier tonight, and I haven't managed to find a fix just yet.I was encoding a video file for quite awhile (I don't think that parts important, but I thought I'd include it anyway) and then I tried to play a youtube video. I noticed there was no sound, so I tried to up the volume using the Volume Up key on the keyboard. The volume visualisation appeared on the screen like normal (albeit a bit laggy), but the sound still didn't change, neither did I get the usual 'click' noise you get when you change the volume.I went looking into the sound options in the system prefs. only to find that the Output Sound device was headphones. For a test I plugged in some headphones to see what happened and, low and behold, the Output Sound device changed to the Internal Sound and my speakers were working again, but only with the headphones plugged in.

There seems to be no loss of performance. I did a disk verify and everything is OK. Should I be concerned?
