View 2 Replies View Relatedbesides leaving your computer on mute is there a way to turn off the startup noise on a mac? When i come late to class and want to bootup my computer, the apple startup noise draws attention to the fact that i am late and booting up my macbook.
View 24 Replies View RelatedThis situation began when I put my Imac on sleep. After, the screen turned on in black whit the cursor but I couldn't do anything.
Then to rebooted the machine, the apple logo and sound began fine but the screen turned off, so moving the mouse the screen turned on in black with cursor.
I'd tried many ways, resetting the PRAM, SMC, repairing the disk and permission, analyzing hardware, repairing fsck files.
Suddenly, when I entered in Verbose mode, mi imac brought into user choose screen and worked fine, but when I shut down and tried to start my mac in the next day, it didn´t work again.

View 19 Replies View RelatedEvery computer I ever had, the first thing I do is to turn off the startup sound because it is very annoying in a public place and sometimes in a quiet place. I have not been able to find out how to trun it off on my Air. I asked the guys at the stores and they just say you can't. That is really dumb. I turned off my speaker but that is not a practical way because I may not remember to turn it off when I shut down.
how do I turn it off permenantly.

This morning, I synced my iPod with my MacBook and upon completion and permission to disconnect the device, I pulled out the USB cord. At that point the computer instantly turned itself off, and when I hit the power button, I could hear the system trying to start up, but the screen remained black and the sleep light glowed continuously. I unplugged the charger, took out the battery and put it back in, and tried all the troubleshooting tips under the Apple Support guide with no success. I also discovered that when I closed the laptop while it was "on," it would seem to boot up a little more before returning to the black screen. I left it alone for a few hours, and when I tried again to turn it on, it booted up normally and as I was searching for updates, it shut down again as it had earlier.
Does anyone have anything for me to try? I don't want to have to take it into a shop because I can just barely afford to, but I need this computer! Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated :-)
I have a Mac air (bought it last year) and today won't start up at all!!it does not produce any sound nor I can hear the fun. no video .no activity at all. The power cable is connected and light is green.

I'm doing my best not to panic here but I'm sure you can feel my pain. I got up this morning, made my coffee and opened up my MBP to start my day.
I can hear that start up sound but the screen is completely black. Nothing. It was fine yesterday and I didn't do anything different when I closed it to put it in sleep mode. But now it won't wake up. I pulled the battery, let it cool (seemed a little warm since I just started it)....still black screen.
Can anyone provide any advice on how to fix?
I know that in the past this question has been asked, but I was just wondering if anyone has figured out how to _change_ the sound, not turn it off. Although some folks might want to turn it off too.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI recently purchased a 13" 2.26 stock macbook. It's perfect, screen is good (no scrolling issues or purple blues) with no dead pixels, no slanted keys, and no scratches.
I updated the firmware that addresses the SATA 1.5 issue. After the update, I reset PRAM. I held down the buttons till I heard the second or third startup bong.
Here is where it gets funny.
Now, when I reboot or start up my computer, the start up noise is loud. Even with headphones plugged in and also the volume turned to its lowest setting (even with volume turned off). Eventually, to control the startup noise, I had to install the startupsound program in my system prefs as mentioned on other threads and that has seemed to control the startup sound.
I was wondering, if by resetting the PRAM if I have harmed my computer in any way. Should I be worried about deeper issues with my computer since the startup sound was not previously being affected by reducing the volume to zero with headphones plugged in?
I'm fairly new to the MAC world and have not found my way around this computer completely. I have seen a commercial of an iMAC sending email and a swishing sound occurred when the email was sent. I wonder how one turns on the sound that indicates the email has been transmitted? And, are there choices of different sounds for this purpose?

I'm about to sell an older Mac, and my buyer asked if I could install Snow Leopard and iLife for him, as well as update the machine. Of course it's easy to do this, but this will leave him with a user account he didn't configure himself. I was wondering how to update the mac and install the software and then reset it so that when he first boots it up he does get the intro movie and the user creation process? I found this guide, but it's referring to iBooks so it's pretty old, can anybody confirm it still works for Snow Leopard? [URL]

Current status is...Cannot turn on, screen is dark. Blue light on power button stays on. Can't restart after holding it down...Red light inside box is on. Read that it might be air deflector trouble, but that's not it. Opened box removed plastic and returned it...another red light lit , then turned off. 1st red light stays on.
Before the above began, a restart would end up in a hang at the end of the progress bar. Ran Disk Util from Install CD which showed errors: "Volume Chk failed...HFS Volume needs repair". Ran FSCK whick said it fixed all. Ran Disk Warrior afterward b/c still would hang at startup. Says all now OK...but NOT! Have tried saving files thru Disk Warrior...but now, as per above, cannot get it to start up. Or turn off...
Would like to get it lit to save any additional files if drive is near the end...

View 2 Replies View RelatedMy G4 iMac has been making a weird fan sound (a flickering sound, as if there were a piece of paper in it or something). Last night I turned it off and the weird fan continued running. I tried to unplug my mac and plug it back in, but the fan just starts right back up. The computer won't start, I've tried holding the start button but nothing happens. I need my computer today to work.
