Since upgrading to Lion, I can't save changes or even save new documents in Pages on my laptop. When I try to save, I get the dialog box: "The document “Untitled 2” could not be saved as “Untitled 2”. Permission denied" I can't find anything in Pages preferences or in the System preferences where this setting can be changed if it is a setting.

I am trying to restore my Macbook Air using the Apple Lion Thumb Drive. I inserted the thumb drive, restarted, and held down Command-R. I got the recovery mode, and it is asking me to choose a Wi-Fi Network to continue... I don't have wi-fi here. Is there a way to do this using the thumb drive and no internet?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have an Aluminum MacBook, is it possible to install Windows with boot camp from a thumb drive? I have access to the ISOs I need (from MSDNAA), but I ran out of CDR/DVDRs. Ideally I would extract the ISO onto the thumb drive and have it behave the same as if it was a CD, is it that simple or is there something else I will need to do?

I have a thumb drive that if i plug it into my MacBook Air in the left usb port, it takes at least 3 minutes before it shows up on my desktop, sometimes MUCH longer. If i plug it into the right USB port, it shows up after a minute. If I plug this same thumb drive into a PC, it shows up within seconds. If i plug a different thumb drive into either USB port on the Air, it shows up within seconds.
It's a FAT32 thumb drive, and i've already tried reformatting it and the same stuff happens. I've even had disk utility check it out and nothing's wrong. I'd guess the thumb drive is bad but it works instantly if i plug it into a PC, so guessing that's not it. It's a 10.6 MacBook Air.

I have been retrieving PDF documents from Guru.com. In short: you get a link, you click on it, the document appears as PDF, you save it as PDF from Safari. After doing the update, now I can't save the PDF documents as I was able to do it before the update. I get the following message:
The document “english media kit.pdf” could not be exported as “english media kit”.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI am unable to save documents created on Pages and Textedit on my main "Macintosh HD" after the first save. If I create a document, save it then edit it and try to save again it comes up with "This document "test" could not be saved" No extra info other than that message.
If I try to save onto my second drive, " Macintosh HD 2" (the non-boot drive) it works fine.
I have
1/ checked read and write permissions and my Macintosh HD and they are set for "read & write"
2/ I have repaired disk premissions using Disc Utilities to no avail
3/ booted using Cmd - R and used terminal and applied "reset home directory permissions and ACL's" to no avail.

Can you save documents to iCloud simply as storage and to access from another PC, iPad or device that isn't your own? I want to access documents remotely but can't see how to do this without buying iWorks for my iPhone, which is not what I want. I previously stored a few important documents on iDisk and am trying to replicate this so I can access them when I am away from my MacBook.

When I scan a document I have problems locating the file on the computer. Once I located the file I attempted to save in pages 09 but it didn't work. And I can't seem to even copy a scanned document to paste into pages. As an example I would like to scan all of my loose recipes and assemble in pages. But can't figure out how to do this.

View 14 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to install ubuntu from a thumb drive. Basically, I'm converting the .iso to an .img, and restore the thumb drive from the .img, trying to make it bootable. I'm following the procedure form the ubuntu website. Drag and Drop a file from Finder to Terminal to 'paste' the full path without typing and risking type errors.
Download the desired file
Open the Terminal (in /Applications/Utilities/ or query Terminal in Spotlight)
Convert the .iso file to .img using the convert option of hdiutil (e.g., hdiutil convert -format UDRW -o ~/path/to/target.img ~/path/to/ubuntu.iso)
Note: OS X tends to put the .dmg ending on the output file automatically.
Run diskutil list to get the current list of devices
Insert your flash media
Run diskutil list again and determine the device node assigned to your flash media (e.g. /dev/disk2)
Run diskutil unmountDisk /dev/diskN (replace N with the disk number from the last command; in the previous example, N would be 2)
Execute sudo dd if=/path/to/downloaded.img of=/dev/rdiskN bs=1m (replace /path/to/downloaded.img with the path where the image file is located; for example, ./ubuntu.img or ./ubuntu.dmg).
Using /dev/rdisk instead of /dev/disk may be faster.
If you see the error dd: Invalid number '1m', you are using GNU dd. Use the same command but replace bs=1m with bs=1M.
If you see the error dd: /dev/diskN: Resource busy, make sure the disk is not in use. Start the 'Disk Utility.app' and unmount (don't eject) the drive.
Run diskutil eject/dev/diskN and remove your flash media when the command completes
Restart your Mac and press alt while the Mac is restarting to choose the USB-Stick
Everything goes through fine, except, when I restart my mac to see the boot options. All I see is Macintosh HD
I'd like to protect my thumb (flash) drives and want to know the easiest effective way to do so. All the freeware and shareware programs out there only add to my confusion.
