MacBook Pro :: Recover Files Back / Put Hard Disk In External Enclosure?

Jul 9, 2009

My dear baby, a 3 year old macbook pro died last week (way to young). Fried logicboard. Apple wants 1.550 dollars to fix it, so I guess it is gone for good.

My question is, is it possible to take out the harddisk, put it in an external enclosure and plug it in to another mac to get the files?? If so, what enclosure should I buy?It is a summer 2007 macbook pro.

Hardware :: Disk Enclosure And External Hard Drive Spindown Survey

Jun 3, 2008

I'm trying to figure out which enclosures and external hard drives sleep/spin down when either my iMac sleeps/powers down or after a certain period of inactivity. I'm trying to find this out both for drives connected directly to my iMac ports and drives connected through my AEBS. I've gone through a couple of enclosures and external hard drives with mixed results and it's frustrating (and expensive). I would like to solicit your experiences with respect to drives and enclosures that do spin down both for direct connections and when connected through the AEBS. I've started a list below and would appreciate your inputs.

OS X :: Lost Everything From External Hard Disk / Recover Using Software?

Feb 15, 2011

I had a WD external hard disk which I was using on my pc but not any more since I'm not a pc user any more. However, I'm a mac user now but when I connected my WD external hard disk I found out that i have lost everything on it. I thought may be because of my mac so I connected on my pc again and i have not seen any file which means I lost everything. Give me any software on mac that will get everything that I have lost. It's really important to me.

MacBook :: Restore Files To New Hard Drive / Transfer Files Via Hard Drive Enclosure?

I bought a new 500GB WD hard drive for my Late 2008 MacBook to upgrade from my 250GB drive. I have a hard drive enclosure, but I was wondering if when I install my 500GB hard drive, would I be able to use the enclosure to transfer files from my 250GB drive? I hope this was specific enough to get a clear response. If not, I'll try re-wording my question.

MacBook :: Cheap External Enclosure For Hard Drive Swap?

I'm going to do my first HDD swap with my unibody macbook. I was all set to use Time machine, but I'm hearing that CCCloner or SuperDuper are a better idea. So, could someone link me a good deal on an enclosure I can stick my new drive into? OR, would I be ok just cloning to a partition on my 1TB external WD drive, then installing the fresh HDD, then cloning from external WD to new internal?

MacBook Pro :: Disk Utility Recovery Of Files After Deleting From External Hard Drive?

Jun 10, 2012

I had downloaded some files to add to an external hard drive, the hard drive was assigned to a pc before adding these files so it wouldn't let me add files from my MacBook..

Had a look around online and made some changes (well thats what I thought) and I was able to transfer files form my MacBook onto the external hard drive.

What I then figured out was that there was nothing left on the hard drive except for the two file sI just transferred..

It turns out I deleted everyting without noticing.

The stpes I followed was to go to disk utility then select the hard drive and click erase (not knowing this would erase evrything).

So now I have two files on my hard drive and no idea how to recover the 'delted' files.

I tried using Disk Drill, which found the files but then it said I need to buy the full version to recover them.

I am wondering if there is any free methods to recover these files at all

OS X :: Hard Drive Works In External Enclosure But Not In Mac Pro?

Aug 20, 2009

This is strange. I have a SATA drive that works when it's in an external USB enclosure but when I put the same SATA drive in one of the bays in my Mac Pro, the Mac Pro won't start up.Specifics:-I've reformatted the drive (with GUID and with Mac Partition Map), with no change in behavior-A different drive in the same Mac Pro drive bay works fine, so it's not the drive bay-the suspect drive in any of drive bay keeps the computer from booting (grey screen, no apple)

Booting from an external drive and running DW4 on MAC OS 10.7. Trying to recover from preview pane as my internal drive will not rebuild. OS X :: Can I Recover Files From PC Hard Drive On Macbook?

Nov 8, 2009

I had a Sony Vaio desktop computer and about two years ago I installed a system update from Windows which completely corrupted my hard drive. It wouldn't be such a big deal except I had about a year of photos which I had not backed up. I purchased around $300 of various (and supposedly reputable) data and photo recovery software; however, none of them worked. I could recover thumbnails and that's it.

I currently have a Macbook with an Intel Core 2 Duo processor running OSx 10.5.8. I also have Parallels with Windows XP. My question is: If I buy a suitable adapter to connect my Vaio's hard drive to my Mac, could I potentially try something else to recover the photos? Or would it just be a waste of time?

Hardware :: 2.5" USB External Hard Drive - Which Enclosure Used As Power Supply?

Sep 7, 2009

I'm looking at buying a 500gb external hard drive, and the actual drive itself can only be Western Digital (I won't touch any others, not even Seagate).I can get a 500gb Western Digital Passport for $119.99 CAD in black with the enclosure of course: click hereMy other option is to buy the drive separately, the Western Digital Scorpio 500gb for $99.99 CAD: click here and a cool case of my liking off eBay for about $13 CAD: click hereNow, my question is this; does it matter which case I use in order to make sure the drive is able to be powered with only 1 USB port? I've heard some notebooks dont give enough juice to certain usb ports and would require a y-splitter to use two usb cables in order to power it (im guessing netbooks would probably suffer from this). I remember trying to use a 2.5" lacie external with the orange rubber padding around it, connected it to the front port of a Powermac G5 1.8ghz and it wouldnt mount, unless it was connected to one of the usb ports on the back of the machine.

IMac (Intel) :: Moving Files To External Drive Not Creating Hard Disk Space

Sep 2, 2014

My 500gb iMac (purchased April 2010) is about at capacity.  350gb of space is taken up by home movies (.mov) in iMovie.  I bought an external hard drive and have moved about 200gb over to that drive.

After transfer, I deleted the original Events off iMovie and emptied the trash.  I checked in both iMovie and in Finder and no longer see those files present on the Mac.

I thought this was going smooth and everything worked perfectly, but….when i went to check how much storage space i created on the Mac, the amount of available space barely budged (i moved 200gb of data to the new drive and i created about 30gb of space on the Mac).

Are these "deleted" files hidden somewhere and I need to go delete from somewhere else?  How do I make sure I get back the storage that i need?

MacBook Pro :: External Hard Drive - Disk Utility Can't Repair Disk

Jun 27, 2014

I have a Seagate 1 TB Backup Plus Drive which was working perfectly fine until I plugged it into a USB hub. It detected it while in the hub and I was able to get files off of it, but when I ejected it from the hub and put it back into the USB slot on the computer it was not detected by finder. It shows up in the disk utility and I clicked verify and repair and it says:

Verify and Repair volume “Seagate Backup Plus Drive”
Checking file system
Volume repair complete.
Updating boot support partitions for the volume as required.

Disk Utility can’t repair this disk. Back up as many of your files as possible, reformat the disk, and restore your backed-up files.

Is there any way to get this to work properly again? Or if not is there a way for me to recover my files on the external hard drive?

I have a Macbook PRO late 2011 running OS X Mavericks.
