I am switching from a dell pc running XP home media sp3,to a Macbook Pro.I have not ordered it yet, but I am planning to get the 15" 2.66, 4 G Ram, and upgrading to the 500GB/7200 rpm. I will mostly use the Mac side of things but I do plan to install either VMWare 3 or Parallels and then run Windows 7 there. I have pre-purchased the Windows 7 Professional upgrade software from MS. So, when I receive my mac, and install the virtual machine,do I then just do a clean install of the Windows 7 upgrade software and simply insert the registration key of my old XP operating system when prompted? Or do I need to go to the trouble of installing the MS XP operating first and then deleting it's partition during the clean install process? Are there any other things to watch out for in this process?

View 7 Replies View RelatedSo I am trying to open up my bootcamp partition (running windows 7) in VMWare and I get this error message: Cannot open the disk '/Users/brandonquirarte/Library/Application Support/VMware Fusion/Virtual Machines/Boot Camp/%2Fdev%2Fdisk0/Boot Camp partition.vmwarevm/Boot Camp partition.vmdk' or one of the snapshot disks it depends on. It was working just fine before the upgrade to Snow Leopard but I am not sure if that has anything to do with it. I had to reinstall Windows 7 after I tried installing the Bootcamp 3.0 drivers so that may be more of the issue. I didn't test to see if would work still when I upgraded to Snow Leopard.
View 3 Replies View RelatedOk so I've got a MBP bought back in november, with Mac OS X Leopard. My problem is, when running windows, Bootcamp 2.0, no mic will be recognised. Neither the built-in, nor any one you connect will work. Doesn't matter if it's usb or jack, it won't work (even though it's recognised).
I'm working with Realtek HD audio drivers, as I didn't even have sound after installing Bootcamp.
if I'm going to be running windows 7 through bootcamp almost full time.. would it better to get the 15" with 9400m only since the other models I've heard default to 9600 under windows. I don't play games and want to have good battery life while using windows.. so does the 15" w/ 9400m only seem like the better option for this?

Well cause of work, we have some a lot of old data at work that was collected over the years using dos programs and I need to go threw it and pull out what I need, when I need it. So having it on my laptop would be great. I have tried both Parallels & VMware with no luck. I can't get them to realize that I have a floppy drive, it's a usb floppy drive. I have 6gig of memory running snow lepoard. I have been thinking of trying the Sun Microsystem software but thought I would ask here first.

View 9 Replies View RelatedAt some point I would like to use a Windows ONLY program called WillMaker by Nolo Press. But it is Windows only. If it is not graphics intensive would this be a good candidate to run in some Windows emulator window? Does OS X Lion by any chance have any Windows emulator built into it or are emulators the domain of 3rd parties?
1. Anyone successfully run WillMaker in OS X Lion?
2. Assuming a separate Windows emulator is necessary (either Apple or 3rd party) are there any consider most robust?
3. If a dedicated Windows 7 or 8 (when it comes out) is the only way to successfully use WillMaker do tell but I will certainly hold off longer.

i run boot camp and work on Microsoft to work with auto cad, and the volume keys and the pause and mute for some strange reason stopped working.
ive gone to control panel boot camp and turned on and off the option to use the f1 keys and still nothing. i have uninstalled the driver for the keyboard and still nothing.
I was able to get Windows 7 running on my 1st gen MBA, with everything working except the wireless (but have found driver that I will test soon). Battery life is as good if not better than OS X, boot times are quicker than OS X and the MBA doesn't appear to get anywhere near as hot as it does in OS X when idling. CPU usage is 0-1% on idle but soon whacks up when screen grab is used, youttube CPU requirements are very low (which is to be expected) also even though this is pre beta the OS feels incredibly smooth, I have attached some screen shots below. I also installed on my iMac and the only things to report there are that sound and wireless require 3rd party drivers (as with MBA) and it refuses to play Blu-Rays or HD-DVDs no matter which powerdvd you use, (the blu-ray/hd-dvd drive is a sata device connected y a sata to usb adapter...) it simply says 'cannot recognise the format' even though windows know its a blu-ray and i can go and explore files on the disk. anyway here are photos and I will also try and make a video at some point:

1. Is it possible to run vista (home premium) on a mac running tiger?
2. If it's possible, can it be installed without clearing the hard drive? I don't want to have to transfer and reinstall apps, ideally. I know this has to do with partitioning, but beyond that I'm clueless.
Do the Apple Stores have any MBPs running Windows in Bootcamp? It would be nice to be able to test stuff out on it.

Quite often, I'll close the lid to put it to sleep, then, a few minutes later I'll notice that the Apple light has turned on, and when I open the lid I confirm that it's woken up.
In Event Viewer, I've noticed that every time this happens, the following event is listed, in the Power-Troubleshooter category: "Wake Source: Device -USB Composite Device".
I have no USB devices, ExpressCards, CDs, or anything plugged in.
EDIT: It doesn't only happen when it's running on battery power, since it just happened with the AC adapter in.
While running Windows with Boot Camp on a Mac can I get viruses?

I'm a 25-year PC user looking to switch to iMac that also runs Windows 7 virtually. Wondering if there are recommended keyboards that map seamlessly to both Mac to PC programs as I will run these side by side. I'm looking for one with backlit keys, a gaming keyboard would be ok though I am not a gamer.

I am thinking about partitioning my internal hard drive with Bootcamp and then installing Windows so that I can run some software that requires Windows (ARCGIS is the particular software). my Mac runs smoothly and I want to keep it that way. I am afraid that if I partition and install Windows. Are there any such risks to partitioning internal hard drive and installing Windows?

My MacBook Pro is running hot. The Apple store ran tests overnight and said it is above average. Their suggestion was to send it to the Service Depot and for $310 plus tax anything out of spec will be replaced. Basically sounds like a good deal but I can't give up the machine for the 3-5 days it takes. I typically have many things open, MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Calendar, Mail, Safari and have multiple things open in each. Would reducing that number have any impact on the heat being generated?

I'm using my Vista 64 bootcamp partition under Fusion (v2) as well and anytime I run Vista from Fusion my laptop temperatures soar to around 84-85 C and stay around those values even after Vista has finished loading up etc... (the lowest I've seen it drop to is 77). I'm using the power saving 9400 graphics card and I gave 1GB of Ram to Fusion and 1 virutal processor. Under normal usage of OS X (with the 9400 graphics card) my temps stay between 45-55 C. So are these normal temperatures that I'm experiencing with Fusion? What can I do to make these lower?
