my wife was backing up her photos to our USB stick when suddenly she gets this warning...Just before she had been trying to copy some photos, but the computer didn't allow that, probably some photos were corrupted. I however found those photos on the USB stick, but they are grayed out.I can still open everything else on the stick, and copy from the stick to the desktop, but I can't delete those photos from the stick, trash simply says they can't be deleted. So I decided to simply reformat the stick. However, when I try and erase it, I get this warning
I cannot verify the permissions nor the disk, and I can't repair either, the tabs are simply grayed out. So I decided to check on the permissions on the stick, and suddenly it is in read-only mode, and I can't change it. The lock on the bottom and the droptab won't appear..I tried using google to find a solution and someone pointed out a terminal command, but everything there seemed in order.. I suddenly can only read the Volume, and nothing else, and I can't format nor repair it! I bought this stick very recently, and I want to try everything before I pick up my wallet for a new one! The problem started on my wifes 2012 MacBook Air, and still persists on my late 2011 MacBook Pro. We both have Mavericks.

I have an external HDD with ~40 GB of data (~200 GB free) and my internal HDD only has 25 GB free. How is it possible that I could resize the HFS+ partition and add a FAT partition to the external drive without losing any data (like Disk Utility will do)?
View 5 Replies View RelatediPhoto will not import a video on my kodak camera but it will import photos. The only difference I can really tell between this movie and others I already have imported into iPhoto are that this one is a .MOV file and the others are .MPG files. Anyway to change this? In the camera maybe? I can't open the file in quicktime either, no way to access it I think since it cant import.
View 18 Replies View RelatedI use office 08 for excel. Some of the boxes I use are formatted so when I enter the date say 22feb hit enter, it corrects it to read Feb. 22. When I import into numbers, and try to do it, there is no format for that cell, I type 22feb, and that s what shows in the cell, Is there a way of formatting these to do the way the excel spreedsheet works?

View 6 Replies View RelatedI could have sworn that, somewhere, it's possible to select whether screen grab saves as PNG, JPEG etc. I can't find that option anywhere now. I know you can convert it in Preview, but that's no good. Am I losing my mind??

View 14 Replies View RelatedMy iTunes playlists used to give a precise total play time. Now that I downloaded the new version of iTunes, the playlist just estimates the time. So, "1 hour" could mean 1 hour and 2 or 3 or 4 minutes. That is a big problem for people who teach 60-minute fitness classes! I plan my class around that playlist, and 3 or 4 minutes is a big deal. Now I am having to add up the time of songs by hand. What a pain! Is there any way to get back the old format of time, which estimated exactly "59 minutes" or I think it was more precise, like "00:59:12." I need this format back. The estimate of "1.1 hours" is killing me.

Does anyone know how can i install Vista home premium on my imac? ive been using boot camp to do all the steps but im stuck at where i should choose NTFS format partition had disk. Seems like mine is FAT32.
This is what ive done;
1.Open up bootcamp assistant
2.Partition, divide equally(116GB each)
3.Insert Vista disk and start installation
4.Install Vista and insert CD key
5.custom installation
6.Now this is where i stuck
I have 4 options, and i should choose the last one which says bootcamp 116gb, but i cant click it since it says the disk need to have NTFS format. How can i set so that i partiton it to NTFS?
Every question I see about changing the screenshot format here seems overly complicated, or requires installing another app.
I'm pretty sure screenshots used to always be png, but I just noticed that they are now jpeg. I do a lot of graphics work and want to capture as png.
Here there are instructions for code in Terminal. Is that really necessary? Shouldn't it just be a preference somewhere? (I will always use cmd+shift+4 to take the screenshots)

Every time I change the cell format in numbers, it keeps going back to 12/30/11 when I want 2/1/12. It is quite frustrating because I did what it said to do.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am dragging and dropping a logo into Mail.app signature pane. The image is saved as a jpg, when I drag into the mail signature pane it's file name is 'PastedGraphic.tiff'. I am assuming there is file format preference somewhere that can keep the image either it's original format, or convert to a jpg, vs. a .tif
Most other email clients won't display this format. .

I'm using Macbook Pro(2010, 10.6.6) and a PC with Windows 7. I need to transfer image files from both laptops to an external drive. I formatted the external drive in exFAT and wanted to know if there are any problems that might occur in the future. I already know there is an issue with such programs as Carbon Copy Cloner. I primarily need the drive for backup of the images and not system backups. Do you have any file corruption or other problems formatting in exFAT?
View 6 Replies View Related I correct in the understanding that this external drive can now be used by both my iMac and my Windows Vista PC? I want to be able to share the files (whether it be documents, photos or video) on the external hard drive with both my iMac and PC.
Additionally, is this type of formatting as stable as any other format? I am just concerned about losing any data long term. I will be backing up my files on two separate external drives using the same formatting. The duplication is in case one of the external hard drives crash.
In Bootcamp I follow the guidelines as stated for installing Windows XP Professional. However, after selecting the size of the required Windows partition during the Bootcamp Assistant install, it automatically goes into copying the appropriate windows files into 'whatever'. On Restart it gives me the "Press any key to boot from CD. Disk Error. Press any key to restart". Pressing any key DOES NOT work and I can only get out of this by turning off the computer. I have run a search on these forums to see if there is a solution to this and the response is essentially that I have to "format the partition to either the FAT or NTFS. I am following the install disk BUT it does not give me the option to format the windows partition. What am I doing wrong?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI ran the bootcamp utility on my Macbookpro with no problems. Selected the first option for partition of 32Gb, ran the XP Pro SP2 disc and it never gave me the option to format... Obviously got a "disc error, press any key to continue" message since the drive is not "bootable." So I found a thread online that sent me to the XP site to discuss FAT32 issues. The drive can't be larger than 32Gb (which it shows 32,600 after the partition), so I deleted the part. and rebuilt it at 30Gb. Still didn't give me the option to format the drive! It shows the partitions, so I select the C:yatta-yatta-/bootcampwhatever , press enter and it starts installing... Any idea on how to force the XP setup program to allow me to format the silly partition?

I was using my external hard drive with my mac and its formatted in the MAC HF(something like that) file system. I would like to format that external hard drive such that the file system is either NTFS or FAT32 so that I can use it on my windows partition running on boot camp. I am asking this question since I am planning to get a new HD for my mac and use the old one with windows.
View 10 Replies View RelatedI have an external drive that will need to be connected at different times to both my Mac (Leopard) and my Windows XP & Vista machines. I had it formatted for Mac OS (Journaled) but it wasn't readable in XP or Windows. So what is the best format so that all can read/write to it normally? NTFS? It needs to be able to handle larger files (4GB and bigger).
View 12 Replies View RelatedI have an 8GB Toshiba TransMemory? U2M USB Flash Drive and I want it to work with both Windows and Mac. I know this can be accomplished by formatting FAT32, but I need to be able to load 5GB files. This of course eliminates FAT as an option. I know there is a format that works for this, because I used to do these transfers with this very drive (with the manufacturer's format). Up until I had to temporarily reformat the drive for a little project. Now I need to get this USB drive back to a format that works for me.
