MacBook Pro :: What Is The Hottest Safe Running Temperature
May 1, 2012
So I've been having issues with my laptop crashing repeatedley and I ended up putting it down to overheating (from feeling the base/black strip) and do I downloaded a widget for dashboard which tracks CPU temperature and I'm runnin fairly consistently at 70-95, sometimes up to 103 degrees or so. Figure this can't be good for it, and from my reading it should be running at about 60 degrees or so. So how hot is too hot, and how do I go about cooling it more than the fans at 6300rpm?
I put all the fans up to 1000 but Power Supply stays at 599. Any thoughts why it wont go up? Also whats a safe temp for harddrives? My HD:macintosh drive was around 39C- 41C when I put the fans on higher. Now its at 37 and its only 60degrees out today and my room is already over 70 (dam attic ) i wont be able to use my computer when its 100 out
My first gen macbook is running with a CPU temp of 71 degrees celcius while running nothing. The mds and mdworker processes are taking up most of the processor and it wont change after quitting the processes or restarting or shutting down the computer.
I was just wondering how hot is it ok for the Macbook Pro to get before it becomes an issue. Today my CPU got up to 80 celsius, and I got a little worried, because my computer usually runs around 49 - 55 celsius. Here is a screen shot I took a hour ago while I was running iTunes, Yahoo Messenger and Safari. And here is another one I took a minute ago while just running Safari
everyone knows that the macbook pro gets hot... but how hot is safe and how hot is too hot. I have a widget who monitors the heat of many components, the average for the cpu is 60 to 65 degree Celsius, (140 to150 Fahrenheit) the highest temp is the cpu diode that is usually around 70 Celsius,(158 f) sometimes up to 76 C (169 F) enough to cook eggs...I am under the tropics (India), i am setting up a fan system, i just want to know what is the safe range for the cpu.
I have a macbook pro 15-inch, Early 2011 running osx 10.9.4. I have a SSD hard drive that i installed myself a year ago and hasn't shown any defects. Its a 120 gb OCZ-AGILITY3.
My macbook will only boot in safe mode nowadays. I have done a complete erasion of my hard drive and installed osx mavericks twice already. After the installation the computer will safely go to the desktop. But if i then do a reboot it won't get further than after the first apple logo, sometime the turning wheel will pop up, before turning off and trying again. i have tried resetting PRAM, I have tried resetting SMC, i have tried avoiding SMC (with big fan rate), but all with no success.
I have done a complete hardware test (the longer one) and it showed "no troubles found".
My guess is that the problem is with the battery. My computer won't run anymore without the adapter, when i pull the adapter out it either stays on for a while before just turning off. Without having it plugged in it won't start. Is it possible that during normal start up there is some kind of communication with the battery that can cause this?
I ran a diagnostic shown in this thread (Will only boot in safe mode) and included it in this post.
Start time: 17:07:42 08/25/14 Model Identifier: MacBookPro8,2 System Version: OS X 10.9.4 (13E28) Kernel Version: Darwin 13.3.0 Boot Mode: Safe
I'm talking about if you have Windows set to do nothing and keep running if you shut the lid, useful for downloading large files overnight or something without letting the screen and keyboard get dusty. I've noticed that closing a MBP blocks over half of the ventilation space in the back, so of course it's going to get hotter than normal, and the screen is about 1mm away from the hot aluminum when it's closed, so I'm concerned about the heat damaging the screen. Does anyone have any experience or insight related to this?
This may sound like a stupid question but bare with me here. The Ubuntu computer next to my mac pro has a problem with wireless so I share my internet from my mac pro to it via ethernet. I have to download a large 20 gig file that will take about 2 days, on my ubuntu computer, and Im going to boston so lets say 4 days. Is it safe to leave my mac pro running for over 4 days straight? I don't want to overheat or anything.
I noticed that iStat and Temperature Monitor report different temperatures for the same readings on my G5 Powermac Dual Processor System. For example as I am writing this Temperature Monitor is saying My CPU A is 46.8C and CPU B is 46.7C. In iStat it says CPU A is 55C and CPU B is 54C. Which is right!?
I apologists straight away if this have been covered recently, but i need to ask.I have MacBook with Intel Core Due Processor, 2 GB ram. What is the average temperature CPU temperature for standard usage ( I know that standard usage is very arbitrary, and by this I assume safari, iTunes and let say Pages to be the only major apps running ).I use iStat pro widget and according to it my CPU temperature is 55*C. Is this too high? Lately the fan has been turning on more recently almost without any apps running so I think that there might be some hardware problem. I ran HardwareTest it found nothing.
The macbook is 2 yrs old. Do i need to get it cleaned or is there something else I should be worrying about?
My 2014 21" iMac powers itself down after about 10 seconds while trying to startup in safe boot mode. I'm not even sure why it is trying to start in safe boot mode. I shut it down after a power outage while plugged into an APS UPS. I'm guessing that since I interrupted the auto shutdown it is restarting in safe boot mode. Either way, I get a grey screen with a big apple and a progress bar. The progress bar gets to about a tenth full and the power just shuts off.
I've tried starting up while holding the alt key to select the Macintosh HD. The same thing happens.
Been having probs w Mac Pro w Lion seeming to hang on shutdown/restart. Have 'reopen windows' unchecked in prefs. Was able to run through safe mode boot once but now seems to hang about 20% in everytime. Have had to do shutdowns w power button (I hate that) or /by ctrl-option-command-esc Boot single user run rack -fy says 'apparently ok'Mount -uw / reports removed 10 orphaned or unlinked files and 10 directories?
Info: Mac Pro, 2xDual2.66, 4GB, GeForce 7300 GT, 23" Apple LCD, Mac OS X (10.5), G4 Cube, Rev A/C iMac, NeXTCube,PwrMac8500,Quadras,SE30s,MacPlus
I have been unable to restart me computer after a software update (White screen/apple logo/spinning wheel continuously). I have tried to start up in safe mode (holding down shift key) but it hasn't worked.
I am using iStat Pro and notice the temperature really gets up there! The airport card reads 62 degrees this morning. I'm nervous about slowly cooking my laptop! This can't be good for the cpu's?
So I recently bought myself a Macbook Pro 2006 Model 15". And the idea was, buy it second hand and get the fan fixed totally the price of 600$. Which is great, because it works and things are fine.
But why is it that when I'm on Facebook on either Opera or Safari? My temp hits 80c. I've called up the Mac Store here in Ireland. They asked me to use iStat Pro to find out my temperatures. So I have, and all my temperatures are fine (around 30-50c) but my CPU temperature is hitting 80c.Honestly, this is quite scary to see that a computer I've bought hits 80c when I browse the internet?
Specs: Mac Os X 10.5.8 Processor: 2GHz Intel Core Duo Memory: 2GB 677MHz DDR2 SDRAM Macbook Pro 15"
I'm getting fed up with dealing with the Mac Store, if you guys know what I need to do to fix this problem? I'll open it myself, and fix it.
I have just brought the 1.8GHz + SSD version. It's really fast and quiet, until the fan spinning like crazy.
What is the acceptable CPU temperature on the Air?
Mine got up 89 degree C (192.2 F) MAX for a while, when the heat-sink is at much lower temperature, like 60-ish. Can't remember what tasks it was doing. It's 54 right now just with the Websites running, and the heat-sink is at 43.
Is it normal? Or should I worry about the thermopaste on the machine?
I happen to have a Late 2007 MacBook Pro (The specs are in my signature). My model was also the one affected by the 8600Gt issue so I had taken to a nearby Apple Reseller in Dubai in 2008. It's been months since that happened.
However, I've been monitoring my CPU & GPU temperatures and I'm still confused about what is ideal and if I should be worried about anything.
(I took a screenshot of my iStat readings and there's a difference of atleast 11C between the GPU Diode and GPU Heatsink)
Is there anything alarming that I should be worried about?
I'm using SMC Fan Control and it constantly hovers around 55-58 degree. Once it hits 60's the fan will bump to 6000+ rpm but will not drop. Even with light work load (Firefox, Adium, iTunes) temperature doesn't drop even when the fan is at 6000rpm until I close everything. Is this normal?
I've got one of the older white macbooks, and recently my cpu temperature has been spiking up to about 90 degrees celsius when I do things such as run online games or stream video from online. I don't think it ever used to do this before. Could this be a problem of stuff getting clogged in the fans? Or is it something else? Or, is it normal?
I just bought a MacBook Pro, i love it however i'm a bit worried about the temperatures, it usually runs at 60 degrees celsius when i start to load the computer a bit with 4 tabs browsing and a 3D App it gets to 70-85 degrees? is that normal or is it a lot? i just want to keep my new mac Healthy. Also, the RPM at 80 degs is around 3000 - 4000rpm
I see people stating the temperatures of their MBPs, fairly often in this forum. How do you do that?
By the way, I got my new 17" i7 MBP, yesterday, and it runs noticeably cooler than my 2006 core duo 2.16 MBP. Nonetheless, I'm still curious what the processor temperature is, and curious how you measure it.
I know iStat Pro and iStat Menus can monitor the CPU temperature, but I was wondering if there's any way to monitor the GPU temperature. I've been playing StarCraft II, and my CPU temperature has been getting to 80, which I guess is common with MacBooks, but I want to see if my GPU goes critical.
Does anyone know of any web sites that compare temperature differences between the i5 and i7 cpu's used in Macbook Pros?I am still on the fence on if I should get the i5 or i7. I don't own a Mac laptop now and have heard that they get quite hot. I am wondering if the i5 at the lower clock speed would run cooler.I have poked around on google with no luck. Anyone have any insight?
My Macbook Pro keeps a constant temperature of approximately 80-85 degrees Celsius with only the internet browser running. Is this too high? I have also talked about my computer shutting off on games that were not very graphic intensive like Torchlight.
