View 11 Replies I am getting a pop up "Are you sure you want to shut down your computer now?".
The one we get, if pressed the power button to switch it off?. The problem is not consistent and mostly I get if left inactive for some time(random). I have run the hardware test(installer DVD and pressing D) without any issue found.
Or is it better to leave it on for weeks?

I spilled Gatorade on my MacBook Pro and now if i don't touch the trackpad for about 4 seconds it asks if i want to shut down, go to sleep, or restart. If i don't hit cancel within about 5 seconds it will shut off. It will also shut off if i close it. The only way it stays on is if i hold down the command key.

I'm a new Mac user. A few days ago, I tried to turn my Mac Air off by clicking "shut down" as I always do.But it wouldn't shut down. Moreover, there was no indication that I had even clicked "shut down." No rainbow circle telling me to wait.Days later, I'm still trying to restart or shut down my Mac, and I can't.It's like my computer isn't hearing what I want it to do!I press "shut down" and nothing at all happens.I can, however, just resume using my Mac as usual (internet works, ITunes opens, etc.)I've been browsing forums all day and nothing has helped.

My Aluminum Macbook (Late 2008) won't shut down unless I hold down the power button or shut down from the login screen. I've tried to repair my disk, disk permissions, uninstalling some applications, scanning for viruses, resetting the PRAM, and leaving the battery out over night.
View 12 Replies View RelatedI don't really remember what I was doing but it just turned off then when I tried to turn it on it would make a sound like when you turn it off. I think its the hard drive stopping but its like high pitched to low. and it kept doing that then after a few times I got it to start up.
View 1 Replies View RelatedFirst time this has happened to me during shut down. Second time it has froze in the 1.5 years I have had it. I simply selected shut down and it was shutting down for over 10 minutes. The background was the Purple Leopard background and the Loading Wheel was on the screen. (Not the Pinwheel but the wheel in the lower center of the screen.)
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a June 09 MBP 13", and in my TV editing class lab this morning, we were getting all the students' external HDs formatted and setup for Final Cut Pro. Our lab equipment is really old, dual G5 Mac Pros, and it was taking the instructor a long time because only hers was authorized to reformat drives. I offered to help since I had my MBP with me, and formatted a couple of drives. Then, there was one that her G5 wasn't recognizing, so we plugged it into my MBP. My MBP was on battery, and her HD was plugged into the wall outlet. It's a WD MyBook, one of the 3.5" big ones.

Personally, I shut down every night and boot it the next morning.

I am selling my MBP, so I used the Snow Leopard desk to "wipe" my data from the machine, and then I re-intalled OS 10.6. Now the computer is at the "welcome" screen as if it was just purchased at the store. It asks you to select your country, your languge, etc, and then it asks if you are restoring from a Time Machine backup or what exactly you'd like to do.
My problem is (and I know this sounds stupid) I don't know how to turn the computer off now that it's as this "beginning" stage. It doees ot have the usual selections at the top of the screen (like the Apple Menu, etc), so I'm not sure what to do. For now, I just closed the lid and I'm hoping that it worked and it's currenlty sleeping. Â
But I'd like to be able to shut the machine down so that I can ship it to the new buyer. Â
PS: I also have the new iLife that I'd like to put on it (it had it before I wiped the data), but I can't figure out how to do that either. The machine is not setup for a user yet, and I don't want to mess it up for the person who is buying it. Is there anything I can do that will allow me to install it?

My macbook pro won't shut down completely. It stops at the blue screen-when left to continue shutting down, it drains the battery. I have to power down by holding the power button during this process.

I had some weird issue with my MBP last night. I let it running when I went to sleep so it could finish a download for me. The battery was fully charged, and I've done it in the past, and MBP would just go to stand by after it finished the download. But this time when I woke up it was turned off completey. I thought it was the battery, so I connected it to power to charge it again, and all of a sudden my MBP turned back on without me pushing any buttons or so. I than had to sign on again and when I checked the battery it wasn't empty, so MBP should have gone to sleep instead of shutting down.
After I signed on I was told that date and time had been set back to the original settings and I had troubles connecting to the internet. When it finally worked again after about 45 minutes I was asked to allow configd and mDNSresponder access, that also never happened before...Â
Is there anyone who could explain to me what happened or what might have caused this?
Several days ago I accidentally spoiled some drink into my macbook pro 's keyboard. But it had been working normally till yesterday. Yesterday I shut it down and charged it.Then I put it in my bag, after 1 hour it became over heat.Very strange, because it is shut down.It couldn't start untill got cool.Today it becomes very slow, and the circle of colors appears very often.

Just curious to what other users are experiencing. How long does it take to shut down your computer (for those that are on OS X Mavericks)? I purchased a Macbook Air 11-inch, 2014 last week and noticed it's taking about 12-14 seconds to completely shut down the computer. Just wanted to gauge if my experience is "normal" or something I need to resolve.
