MacBook Pro :: Taking Ten Minutes To Boot And Refuses To Sleep

Nov 6, 2010

Yesterday, I had some issues with my MacBook Pro, the keyboard and trackpad were unresponsive (I tried a USB Keyboard/Mouse, didn't fix the problem), it took 10+ minutes to boot up, and it refused to wake from sleep. So I did some hunting, found out if I removed the FireWire kexts, then that would solve the issue. I removed the kexts, and rebooted it, and everything works perfectly fine, with one exception. Both FireWire ports are undetected and inoperable. Would a OS reinstall fix this, or is it some deeper issue that may require a logicboard/hardware component replacement?

OS X Mavericks :: IMac So Slow - Taking Longer Than 3 Minutes To Boot

Aug 24, 2014

I have a mid 2011 27" iMac that is taking longer than 3 minutes to boot. I've tried turning off everything in the start up menu, but that hasn't worked. In one of the other questions like this, Linc, I believe said to go to terminal and post to questions the output showed up in Text edit, and I have posted them below:

Step 1:
Loaded kernel extensions:
com.logmein.driver.LogMeInSoundDriver (1.0.3)
Loaded user agents:
net.culater.SIMBL.Agent
com.seagate.SeagateStorageGauge.plist

MacBook Taking An Excesses Of 20 Minutes To Start Up

Apr 14, 2012

My Macbook over the last month has been running slower than usual. I first started experiencing problems after I installed and uninstalled parallels. When I went to uninstall parallels I got an error during the installation, and I removed that files manually. My macbook started responding slower than usual and I repaired the disk permissions and that fixed the problem temporarily.I then downloaded MacKeeper and to clean my MacBook up and that seemed to fix the problem for the short term. Then the other night I shut down my MacBook and I just noticed my time machine backup was still running.Ever since then it has taken an excess of 10 minutes to start up if not longer. When I say start up I am refering from the white screen with the apple logo to the login menu. I have tried the reset PRAM, and I'm running out of ideas, the only thing I have left in my mind is to try and remove the battery and put it in again.

OS X V10.6 Snow Leopard :: MacBook Running Slow - Restart Taking Over 10 Minutes

May 15, 2012

A few days ago, I found my macbook running slow. The starting time used to be 2+ min but slow down to 10+ min. I tried to reinstal by installation DVD but the time bar showed 5+ hours required. I restarted the macbook and tried to format the HD, after proper steps taken, the time bar showed 17 days. Instead booting from the system, I tried to boot direct from my installation DVD.

After formatted the HD and re-instal the system, the MacBook seems running smooth again. But after installation of other programs, the same problem recurred. The system was getting slow. Re-starting it required waiting over 10 minutes. I tried to re-format the HD and installed the system again but still doesn't work. Under the disk utility "first aid" scanning through the HD, it showed "Invalid key length." and "The volume Macintosh HD could not be verified completely."

MacBook Pro :: Slow Booting And Refuses Sleep Mode

Aug 6, 2009

My MBP (about 2 years old, Santa Rosa) is having some major issues both starting up and going into sleep. First off, I'm using 10.5.8, everything's updated, I don't have a bunch of stuff on the startup processes (quicksilver and iTunes helper) and I'm plugged into a power source. When I start my computer (since yesterday) it has been taking an abnormally long time at the grey screen before the Apple, the grey screen with the apple and the rotating wheel, and then it goes to a light blue screen for 5 or so minutes (repeat: minutes) until flashing light and dark blue and finally taking me to the login. Not only that, but my computer will not go to sleep when I close the lid. Instead, the screen turns off and the hard drive and fans keep chugging. What's more annoying is when I then try to open the lid to manually turn it to sleep, the screen won't turn on. This usually requires a hard reset, which then takes 10 minutes to start up.

MacBook Pro :: Refuses To Boot From Windows 7 DVD

May 4, 2012

my Macbook Pro 17" early 2008 (modell 4,1) had it's motherboard changed a week ago (the video card issue). I am running Snow Leaopard 10.6.8.

I decided to install Windows 7 on this machine, preparing a partition via Bootcamp, and ran into the following issue: each time I try to boot the Mac from the Windows 7 install DVD (official one), I get a black screen with a blinking cursor.

Now, of course I searched the web, tried a lot of things, burned several DVDs in different ways, from the original DVD as well as from .iso files downloaded from MS, nothing helped.

After some time, I head the idea to try my DVDs on another Mac, an iMac to be exact, and they all work!

So, it looks as if it is my machine that causes the trouble... but its motherboard is new, so it should not be a hardware issue.

Software :: PowerBook Refuses To Boot And Ignores Boot Keys?

Sep 13, 2009

I have OSX installed on a very old Powerbook. Well it was working and then I left it for awhile and now it is giving me the good old folder to question mark screen (maybe someone dropped it?). Well I'm not much of a mac user so I looked up all of the different boot key commands and tried to boot from my OSX CD. Holding down C did nothing, and neither did ANY of the other commands except holding down option and that key command that restarts the computer (apple, option, shift, esc?). Anyway, I got into the screen that shows your hard drive and all other devices and it actually listed the CD drive so I clicked it and clicked the next arrow. I waited for awhile and then the screen reloaded (as if it was rescanning for removable devices) and then stopped and only displayed the local disk. What is going on?! It only sometimes displays the CD in this screen and the next arrow never does anything regardless!!

I really don't know any of the computers stats but if I were to guess they're pretty bad. All I know is it used to run OSX just fine and then other people used it and now it doesn't do anything.

MacBook Air :: Refuses To Boot From 3rd Party DVD Drive?

May 9, 2008

Ok I connected my Air to a LG drive GSA-E50L USB DVD drive. It seems to work fine in Windows and OS X. For booting it does work with the OS X dvd's.

However, it refuses to boot from a Windows XP installation disk.

I've tried different boot disks aswell. No luck.

When I boot pressing the option key, the DVD drive is one of the options. It says "Windows CD". I then choose it. It starts reading the CD and then the apple sign is displayed. The apple sign changes into a stop sign and goes back to the apple sign again.

Does anyone know what is going on?

Has anyone been able to boot from a Windows disk with a non Apple USB drive?

Running OSX 10.5.8 (full custom with lots of software)... my system will not remain in Sleep mode for more than 1-2 seconds (re. my previous recent post on this forum... [URL]

Since it will sleep with a minimum installation any ideas on how I can get it to awake from sleep without having to do a hard restart?

If I can get it to awake... then I can trial-and-error it to find out what software is preventing it from going to sleep.

MacBook :: Running On Reserve, And It Will Go To Sleep In A Few Minutes?

Sep 8, 2009

So I got a new White MacBook a few weeks ago, and it isn't sleeping properly. When Im using it and the battery gets low, I get the message that it is running on reserve, and It will go to sleep in a few minutes.I keep using it, and turns off, but the light stays on solid for about 10 seconds while it is copying the RAM to the HD for the "Deep Sleep." Then it just turns off instead of breathing. To wake it back up again I have to plug it in and press the power button. I was under the impression that it is supposed to enter normal sleep (I.E. the same as when you close the lid) when the battery gets low, and only enter "Deep Sleep" if it stays asleep too long and the battery dies completely.

OS X :: IMac Refuses To Sleep After New HD Installation

Mar 26, 2009

My iMac refuses to sleep no matter what sleep preferences I set or even if I try to sleep it manually (apple>sleep). It doesn't do anything. The display doesn't even dim like it used to a week ago. I don't have anything plugged in but the keyboard and regular mighty mouse, and restart doesn't change anything either. The Apple store installed a new hard drive on the computer a few days ago, since the 1.5 year old one randomly crashed and died. So I don't know what kind of funky things they might have changed, I'm just wondering if there's any simple maneuver I can do to make it sleep like it's supposed to!

MacBook Pro :: Takes Several Minutes To Go To Sleep Mode When Close The Lid

I have a problem with my Mid-2012 non-Retina MBP. When I close the lid, it takes around 4 minutes for the light indicator to dim and it's not safe to move the machine as it's probably doing something and it's HDD is probably still spinning. It's not like this for my friend's machine, even though it's an older machine.

OS X :: Safari Taking Long Time To Load Pages / Spinning Beach Ball For Several Minutes

Jan 17, 2011

I am running a MacPro 2.66 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon with 8 GB RAM and OS 10.6.6 that is connected to an AirPort Extreme connected to a Westell DSL modem. Lately I have been experiencing strange behavior that I can not solve. When I first start up, Safari and Mail generally launch and work properly. But after a while, from 10 minutes to an hour, I get strange behavior. In Safari, pages take a long time to load- with a spinning beach ball for several minutes. Or they don't load at all. In Mail, I can't get new mail- a get a message that I'm not connected to the internet. When I go to System Preferences and check the Network, it says I am connected.

Rebooting usually solves the problem, but I am forced to reboot once an hour or so. Also, other programs show strange behavior- either failing to launch or crashing. This happens frequently with Photoshop Elements 9 and occasionally with Pages. I am also running a PowerPC Dual 2.3 GHz using OS 10.5.8 off the AirPort Extreme that runs fine and experiences none of these problems. Both machines are connected by ethernet cables to the AirPort Extreme.

MacBook Pro :: New System Takes 7 Minutes Or More To Boot?

Dec 24, 2009

I'm just not having luck with my last 3 MacBook Pros. My new 2.8ghz 15" now takes over 7 minutes to boot to the login screen. Before this happened, I recently copied 139 GB in sound libraries to my system drive. Before I went to work, I quickly closed the laptop and put in my bag. When I took it out of my bag several hours later, the unit was off and battery practically at full charge. When I started it shortly afterwards, it took forever to boot. It would sit there at the grey screen with the spinning circle, then get to the blue background (just before you get to the login screen) and wait there for a while. Most of the time I think you can hear the hard drive churning.

Once you log on, everything seems to be normal. I'm curious if perhaps that 139GB copy did something to the OS to slow it down. FYI it has 274/ 500 GB of free space left. Perhaps the hard drive didn't have a chance to park when I quickly put the laptop in my bag and I damaged it? To complicate matters, I have the MCE optibay installed with a 320 GB hard drive loaded in it. The only thing I can think of is to back up, and reload the OS. This should tell me if it's software or hardware related.
