MacBook Pro :: Will Start To Boot And Shut Down When Progress Bar Gets Half Way

Sep 1, 2014

My wife did an improper shut down by holding the power key while something was working on it. She is running mavericks on the system. Now it will start to boot and shut down when progress bar gets half way. Disk utility says it can not fix problems, and when I try to reinstall mavericks from disk utility, it either says hd is locked, or it won't show me hd.

We have no system disk, so how can I fix this?

Somehow my keychain got populated with my password for the airport express and would like to know if I delete it from the keychain access page - is this securly deleted or could the new owner retrive it if he wantd to?

Safari :: Password For New Modem Not Opening Config Page?

Mar 19, 2012

New ADSL Modem/Router from ISP.A Zyxel P-660HN-T1A_1Pv6 Only wanted the modem function as I use Time Capsule and an Airport Express to extend the signal. On bringing up the modem web page and login box for device configuration, my password is not accepted using Safari ( My default browser)I have managed a successful login with Firefox(on adjusting permissions) and immediately with Opera and Google Chrome.I use "wireless"off and the Open DNS servers, but the login failed initially while showing my ISP's DNS addresses To add to the confusion, a friend who was visiting today with his laptop was able to access my device configuration with his Safari (which he doesn't use usually) I am left with the conclusion that there is something in my Safari setup which is blocking the browser from accepting the password. For the life of me I can't identify it and other than checking others' setups I don't know where to go from here.

OS X :: When Updating Boot Cache Then Shut Down Hangs Automatically?

Dec 13, 2009

I have a problem. I have installed Leopard on a partition on my MacBook. When install successfully completed, my Macbook restarted but it hangs and does not restart so I had to switch the power off by the power button. I then switched my MacBook back on to complete registration and finally got into Leopard.I then updated using Software Update and then restarted but it will not restart. When I try to restart i get presented with a window telling me that "Updating Boot Cache". I then click "OK" but it hangs on the desktop wallpaper and pointer. I have tried to leave my MacBook for half an hour but it is still hanging on the desktop wallpaper and pointer. Same thing happens with Shutdown

Applications :: Can Password Protect An IWeb Page Or A Mobile Me Gallery

Feb 8, 2009

I don't want just anyone to have immediate access to my gallery via my iWeb site. Ideally I'd like my entire Mobile Me gallery to be password protected. I had a look at password protecting individual albums but that's just a horrible implementation, each album just comes up as a grey thumbnail in the albums view even if you enter login details. I thought an alternative (although far less secure) would be to have the link to the mobile me gallery on a password protected iWeb page as part of my iWeb site but I can't find any options to let me password protect just one page.

Am I right in assuming that Web Gallery only supports password protecting of individual items whereas Apple have gone the opposite route with iWeb where you can only password protect your entire site? If that's the case then it seems like they're really trying to make things hard for us!

MacBook Pro :: Won't Boot After Setting Firmware Password

May 21, 2012

My MacBook Pro (Late 2011) which is fully up to date, no longer boots up.The last thing I did was set a firmware password via Lion Recovery mode. After setting the password, I restarted the MacBook Pro, logged in, unbound the Mac from AD and OD, gave it a different computer name and chanegd the IP settings to DHCP.I shutdown the MacBook, plugged in a Firewire cable and turned it back on whilst holding down "T" to boot into Target Disk Mode.

The screen turned on for a second then suddenly turned off and the light on the front of the MacBook slowly pulses as if its in sleep mode.I've restarted the MacBook several times, with and without holding down any buttons and now it will not boot up properly. When you turn the MacBook on, you can hear the CDROM Drive/HDD moving - like it usually does but with no feedback on the screen. After the normal sounds have stopped the light on the front of the MacBook pulses as if its in sleep mode.

Intel Mac :: Won't Boot After User Login Page - Error Occurred Installing Updates

Jun 11, 2012

I logged onto my iMac today and checked for any updates. I found updates for iPhoto, Thunderbolt, Airport and I think Safari. After it downloaded the updates and installed them, it wanted to reboot. Upon clicking ok, it went to a grey screen while initializing the updates, or something to that effect. Then it said an unknown error occurred and press ok to reboot. I presses ok but nothing happened, the box disappeared and the blank grey screen remained.

So I rebooted and the logon screen came up. I put my password in, which was accepted and the iMac moved on to blank grey screen with the darker grey Apple symbol in the middle and the the 'thinking' wheel doing its little circling thing just below that. It's sits there like that and doesn't move to the desktop screen. I've tried rebooting but it stalls at the same point. It's running the latest version of X. It didn't come with any disks and I don't have Time Machine.

I do not understand what pages in and pages out means. Before i started SC 2 it was like 50k + pages in and 0 pages out. After running SC 2 for like2 hours i have 150k+ pages in and 100k + pages out.I am pretty sure i just need to add some more ram but i would like to know what these mean so i can better monitor my system.

OS X :: Automatic Safe Boot - Password Not Recognized

Sep 12, 2010

I own a MacBook, bought in 2008 with Leopard as an OS. It is the black model, if this helps. While I was browsing, Firefox started behaving strangely. It was taking forever to minimize windows and could not use the top right function to view all applications/windows open. I restarted the mac but when it booted up again it did not do it properly. For 10 minutes I had the greyish screen with the loading sign underneath the apple logo, then eventually it showed me the safe boot mode, asking for my password.

When I enetered it, it did not accept it (login window shakes at each attempt). I tried to log in from the CD, but again asked the password and did not accept the one I put in, even though I know it was the right one! Now I can't use the mac and can't access safe boot either. Would you know any workaround solution for this, like a way to reset the password? Have you got any clue on why the mac decided all in a sudden to boot up through the safe boot mode?

Mac Pro :: Can't Boot From 10.5.6 Install Disk - Ask For Admin Password?

Feb 23, 2009

First timer here. I bought a used G4 MDD 1.25 dual FW800 recently. Was pre-loaded with 10.5.6. I thought that I would add a hard drive. After attempting to format, it rebooted to a gray screen with a MacMonitor icon. If I hit "option", I can get it to progress to a blue screen w/ padlock asking for a password. I only remember setting a user password. I believe this is asking for an admin password.

So, I thought that I'd get the 10.5.6 Install disk to reset the password. I can't seem to boot from the Install disk! I've tried holding down the "c" key at startup, (also the "option" key). No avail.

OS X Yosemite :: System Prints PDF Files Very Slowly / About 50 Seconds Per Page Text Only Page

Dec 10, 2014

Problem Description:

1. System prints PDF files very slowly, about 50 seconds per page, a text only page. Sometimes will just continue sending data to printer as indicated by flashing green light on printer – does not stop sending and printer does not print. Problem also present when try to print PDF files as sent by others over internet (eg TD Bank statements).

2. Unable to cause double sided printing using IMac – no problem with PC.

Trouble shooting:Took the same one page text only file that was very slow in IMac, transferred to PC using a memory stick – connected printer to PC using same USB cable – page starts printing in about 1 seconds – no problems. No difficulty in printing Word files other than no double sided. Think the problems started with OSX Yosemite upgrade and the companion Safari upgrade. Auto update for software is on and no new updates. Old drivers removed and new one installed Tried Apple internet chat to resolve problem – was unable – the user forum indicates others have had difficulties with printing PDF files.
