MacBook Pro :: Samsung SyncMaster 2233sw - Need DVI 24 Pin Cable To Connect It
Aug 18, 2010
I'm looking to purchase an external monitor for my MacBook Pro. I'm thinking of the Samsung SyncMaster 2233sw. It says I need a DVI 24 Pin cable to connect it to my MacBook Pro. Which one of these Cables do I need?

I Late 2008 Macbook Pro. My needs have shifted lately, as I am now using it mostly with an external display. I ran it into my 23(?) LG 1080 LED monitor with no problem. I recently bought a Samsung 27' Syncmaster SA550 monitor. I am in love with it, however I cannot find a display size that fits the monitor. I am currently running the 1080p resolution setting on my computer but it is easily 2-3 inches too small. And with overscan its too big to see my menu bar and dock at all. Running at a 24-25' screen size is still much better than my 15 inch macbook pro screen, but it would be awesome to use all of the 27 inches of this monitor. I have been unable to find a working setting, if there is a trick, or a way to setup a custom size As well I am running this as the sole display (not dual screens)

I recently purchased a 2009 Mac Pro (ATI 4870) and am using it with the 22" Samsung SyncMaster2253LW monitor. I'm no monitor expert, but a lot of videos etc look highly pixelated etc. The Desktop and everything else is fine. Most of the options aren't accessible esp the contrast. I have it connected via DVI and VGA :P Does DVI or VGA mark a major difference?
I know the monitor is a bit old. It's dynamic contrast is 8000:1. Is it purely because of the monitor that the graphics look so cheap and pixelated? Even the DVDRips look quite cheap.
Do movie quality improve cause of the graphics card? Ofcourse on my compact 13" MB, DVDRips look brilliant. Should I get a better monitor? I feel my poor 4870 is feeling unused.

When I press the "menu" button on the bottom of my Samsung SyncMaster 906BW both the Picture (brightness and contrast) and Color (MagicColor, Color Tone, Color Control and Gamma) menus say "not available" at the bottom and I am unable to access them. I tried installing MagicTune, but it is not compatible with the 906BW, so offer an alternative solution. The monitor is hooked up via DVI to a Mini-Display Port to DVI convertor to my MBP.

At the moment I have a 24" iMac (early 2008 model) which has been a fantastic machine. But I would like to extend the screen size by plugging in either 1 or 2 extra monitors to spread my windows out. I'm a web designer now, doing things related to Wordpress, so it is useful to have all the applications open in front of me, without having to CMD + Tab between windows or use Spaces.
I asked at a local Apple reseller some time ago what options were available for pluging in an additional monitor. I was told it wasn't possible with the then newly launched Cinema display, but was told something might be possible using VGA and a third-party display.
I'm now thinking again about extending my display space. I note Apple state the 24" cinema display is now iMac compatible and I've since found various video's on YouTube showing multi-monitor configurations with the iMac. I've seen a Samsung SyncMaster P2450H (or very similar) in person and thought the picture quality was excellent. Online the SyncMaster P2450H picks up good reviews and is much cheaper than a Cinema display. So my questions are as follows:-
1) Would there be any compatiblity or other issues connecting the SyncMaster P2450H to an iMac?
2) What cables / adapters / splitters would be required for a single monitor or two monitor setup?
If anyone's got any experience of the SyncMaster P2450H or can suggest something better, I'd be interested to know.

So I bought a 19 inch Samsung Syncmaster 906BW to use with my Macbook after reading a lot of good reviews on it. When using this monitor on Windows it is nice, lots of screen real estate and good color. However when using it with the Mac I am unable to get it to look decent. At first it was incredibly bright, which was only amplified because I have a light background. I ran the Apple display calibrator and that fixed it somewhat, but it is still too bright. There is also a noticeable difference in colors between the Macbook display and the Samsung display. The colors on the Samsung are very deep, but they're almost too deep that it is distracting. For example look at the record, it's a goldish color on the Macbook (which makes sense because it complements the lower stripe), but on the Samsung it's a bright green. Another thing to notice is the dock, the dock border is apparent on the Macbook screen but almost blends in on the Samsung. One last problem is that even with it on the max resolution (1440x900) I really don't gain any extra desktop space. On Windows when altering the resolution there is an obvious increase in real estate, but with the Mac everything just seems to become disproportionately large. (For instance the top menu bar)

I had two of these screens connected to my 2009 MacPro, one to the Ati 4870 and the other to GeForce GT120. I was using them both together mounthes and was happy with them until this morning, when I woke my computer from slee[, I thought that my ther screen was sleeping or may be I had maximized a streaming youtube video while sleeping and it ended and it was the black screen I thought, so I pressed escape to get rid of full size mode but I noticed that the screen was working, but it was hardly noticeable, I mean, everything is all black as if the screen is turned off. I can very hardly see the wallpaper. The Problem is that when I turn it on, the screen is as it should be for 1 second then goes back to like this, even when I click on settings of the screen from the side buttons, they are dark too but I arrived to check the settings and brightness and contrast are on maximum.. and the problem is that I bought the screens when I was in France and now I am in italy, I dont know what to do.

I also took the time to search on this topic and couldnt find anything related
heres the sitch!
Computer = Mac Mini 1.42 model
TV = Samsung TXR3079WH HDTV
DVI to HDMI cable connected to a Samsung HDTV TXR3079WH
the tv doesnt come with dvi connectors so i opted out and purchased the dvi-hdmi cable. i hook it up to the samsung tv and then boot it up and nothing appears on the screen. it just freezes the television to the point that i cant even change to a different source input.
I tested it with different resolutions (i had an LCD next to me to interchange with) and neither resolutions worked. I then thought it might be the DVI-HDMI cable so i hooked it up to my Comcast HD Box and it worked perfectly fine. I then took the Mac Mini to a neighbors house and hooked it up to his 47" Panasonic HDTV and the Mac Mini fired right up and worked beautifully on the Panasonic HDTV using the same cable. Went into System Preferences and under diplays it actually said "Panasonic HDTV" so it recognized the tv. and the resolution automatically reset itself to 1900x1200. Then afer seeing that the Mac Mini was capable of this and all the settings must have been right, i walked back over to my house and the initial problem started again. No Picture on the Samsung HDTV. After all this i found out that the DVI port on the Mac Mini works, The DVI-HDMI cable and the HDMI port on the back of my Samsung TV works as well. So i think it might just be a samsung driver issue? dont know how to resolve this issue.

I am using a rocketfish thunderbolt to HDMI dongle, HDMI cable to the TV. The TV seems to recognize that something is connected, but the message on the screen still says no signal. I've tried the various HDMI inputs as well as the HDMI/DVI input. I use the same HDMI cable to connect to the iPad to the tv without problems.
My Macbook shows "Samsung" under displays, so the machine is connecting to the tv. Could this be a firmware issue on my TV? The TV is approx 3 years old. This is part of the reason I bought this machine

I'm trying to connect my MacBook to an external 19" Samsung LCD monitor. I connect using a standard Apple mini-DVI to male DVI adaptor, which in turn is connected to a third party female DVI to female VGA adaptor, which in turn is connected to a VGA cord which connects to the monitor (male on both sides).
My monitor shows up in the System Preferences display settings, where I can control everything properly, but the screen is black. I can move my cursor over to the other screen, so it seems the MacBook can recognize the monitor. The monitor connects fine using the VGA cord to a Thinkpad.
Is there any inherent with this connection configuration?

I used to have a mac Mini that connected so effortlessly to the monitor and allowed the full resolution (1920x1080). But I'm trying to do that with my MacBook (as I recently sold my Mini) and I'm unable to get it to do what I want to. I have Snow Leopard. It would not allow me to do anything until I updated the OS. The monitor was not recognized at all. Except I noticed when I plugged it in, the macbook screen would flash...so I figure it's recognizing something. But in display settings, detect display wouldn't show anything, neither would restarting. That is, until I updated Snow Leopard.... Anyone know why this might be? And now that I've been able to get something on the display, I'm still not at all satisfied. The resolution is terrible. It will not allow me to choose anything other than the resolution on my macbook screen, but over 23" it just looks terrible. Not only that, but the Macbook screen stays on. I want the mb screen to go off, and full resolution be on the external monitor. I can choose another option for an extended desktop but that's just ridiculous. I have no desire for anything like that.

Can I connect my 15' macbook pro to samsung 214T monitor? What cables do I require? I only recently switched to mac and previously worked on a PC for photo editing using a samsung 214T monitor Rather than buying a new monitor I would rather use the 214T as I really like it and it is accurate. Plus I prefer the matte finish.

My question is if it's possible to connect my MacBook Pro (13") with ethernet connection to my PS3 with an ethernet (or other) cable. So that my PS3 sees my MacBook without using any router, etc... and that I can play movies (e.g. in Blu-Ray) or music that's on my MacBook through my PS3 on my TV?
I've tried Medialink but I guess that's also for wireless streaming also because when I connect my MacBook with my PS3 my PS3 doesn't show up under "devices".

I have a macbook and a Samsung 1080p flat screen I would like to connect both Video/Sound too.I purchased Apples VGA cable along with a HDMI cable. The video output works great, no complaints with the video. The issue that I have ran into is sound, I would like to watch videos or listen to music on my Samsung. So here's where I am at currently. I purchased a Griffin Auxiliary cable w/male connectors. I plugged the cable into the both macbook auxiliary ports (1 at a time) and the Samsung auxiliary port. I was never able to get any sound out of the TV.
Can this be done with the hardware I currently have? If not, what would I need to fix or purchase that would fix the sound issue?

I'm here at university and the wifi here sucks! it is so slow, it is working. However there is an ethernet port and I did connect to it this morning. But, this evening I tried connecting again and it wouldnt let me!At my university they require you to put in your student ID and pw in order for you to use the internet for both wi-fi and ethernet. But when i tried this evening it dint ask for my student ID or password. I went to settings and it did say that there was a connection and that "Ethernet has a self-assigned IP address and will not be able to connect to the Internet"
i dont understand how come now it isnt working. I aksed my classmate nextdoor if his internet port was working through the ethernet port he said it was.... i am not that tech savy so keep vocabulary to something simple lmaooo.

I just moved into my cousins house, which is a lot closer to my university. For the past year have lived about 20 miles away and fortunately now am under 3 miles away.My current situation (don't wanna call it a problem, hoping we'll find a solution) is that his WiFi network is located on one end of his house, while i'm staying on the other side. His house isn't somewhat big, def. more vast than anything i'm used to...but the WiFi is on the south side of the house. My guest bedroom and small work area is on the north side, i'm guessing 40 or 50ft away.He had WiFi using Charter Cable and won't budge drilling another hole in the middle of the house so I could get reception. Nor will he have a long cable from the south side go to even the middle of the home.
