MacBook Pro :: Migration Over Firewire Not Transferring Anything

Jul 3, 2012

I am trying to migrate everything from my old macbook pro to my new one over to my new one over firewire. I have tried twice and it starts at 1hr 30min and goes to 50min to 2hrs 30min and then finishes with in 30min total. Once it finished nothing had finished, it transferred the application names, but not the applications, no documents, no pictures, no downloads, nothing except app names transfered.

PowerPC :: IBook To MacBook - FireWire TDM, Migration Assistant Not Working?

Aug 5, 2008

Here's what's happening: We can connect the iBook to the MacBook with a FireWire cable and boot the iBook into FireWire Target Disk Mode (TDM) successfully. The MacBook recognizes the iBook and mounts it as a drive on the desktop. When we try to launch Migration Assistant, it asks us where the old data is located. Specifying another Mac (which is the logical choice) causes it to beachball for about 10 minutes then tell us to connect the two computers with a FireWire cable and boot the other one into TDM, which we've already done. Choosing from a Time Machine backup or other disk causes it to display a blank window, as if it can't detect any other systems.

MacBook Pro :: How Do Softwares That Aren't Retina Compatible Look On Retina Display

Jun 12, 2012

How do software that aren't retina compatible yet look on the MBP Retina Display? From my own experience as a developer when using regular sized images and resolutions on the iPhone 4, they come out as blurry. I was thinking perhaps the same thing will occur if the software isn't retina compatible? I e 2x in GUI size and scaled down?

MacBook Air :: Undo Migration With Migration Assistant?

Apr 9, 2012

I got a MacBook Air a few months ago and finally got around to migrating data from my MacBook Pro. I am seriously not happy with the results (all I really wanted was to move my iTunes and a limited few apps, and it seems that I got nothing that I wanted). I used a Time Machine backup from an external HD for the migration. Is there any way to undo the migration?

MacBook Pro :: 15 Firewire Unable To List Firewire Devices And Takes 5-6 Start Up?

Feb 16, 2009

I currently have my second MBP that I got from Macmall and both in a matter of two weeks have had similar issues. The first I managed to get returned and replaced, that is a seperate and complicated story in and of itself. This particular issue started with a boot up sequence that was taking about 5-6 mins. After going through the drill with Applecare thought I could restore using Time Machine. That's when I found out that the FW400 port no longer worked to power my Oyen Digital 250G FW drive. Any thoughts as to what might be the problem? This is my second MBP and Oyen Digital FW drive. I had them both replaced!

MacBook :: Connect External Harddrive With Firewire 800 To Macbook With Firewire 400?

Feb 8, 2012

I just got the external harddrive "Seagate FreeAgent GoFlex USB 3.0 1TB" with a Seagate FreeAgent GoFlex Upgrade Kabel FireWire 800. I have neither a USB 3.0, nor a Firewire 800 on my white macbook (2008). I already know, that it's possible to use USB 3.0 with an USB 2.0 port, but I would like to use it with the firewire to spare the USB port for other devices. My question: Is there an adapter or cable to use the Seagate Firewire 800 with my Firewire 400 port? I don't know, where and what to look for.

MacBook Pro :: What Is Dual FireWire 400 And Can It Act As A FireWire 800

Jun 27, 2010

I have a somewhat old Seagate FreeAgent external drive (like this).

It has a switchable port controller, one has a USB2 and eSATA and the other has two FireWire 400 ports [URL].

Now, on the FW controller it says "Dual FireWire 400".

What is Dual FireWire 400? And does it implicate that I can use both ports together somehow and get FW800 by that?

I just got a Mac Mini (March 2009 model) and want to connect it via Firewire to my Sony TRV-22 camcoder. The camcorder has a Mini DV Firewire jack on it (I think this is called a 4-pin connector sometimes too). But on the Mac Mini, I can't tell if I need a 6-pin or a 9-pin. Can someone point me to a good cable so I can dump some MiniDV tapes into iMovie?

Low Or High End Retina MacBook Pro?

Jun 16, 2012

I'm looking to buy a new retina display MacBook pro. My question is that should I get the 2.3 GHz model or the 2.6 GHz model? I will be doing lots of video editing with final cut pro and playing some games Such as left 4 dead 2, diablo 3, and more. Will the 256 GB SSD be enough to hold All of my applications and games? I plan on getting an external hard drive for all the video files, so that won't be a problem. Also, does the 2.6 GHz processor really all that much better than the 2.3 GHz? If I end up getting the high end I probably won't upgrade the RAM, but if I got the 2.3 GHz model, I would for sure just to be safe. My biggest concern is the cost of the 2.6 GHz. I would like to get it sooner than later so that's why I would opt for the 2.3 GHz. Since I do qualify for the student discount, I get $200 off. But even then, the 2.6 GHz is still a lot of money. At this point I can only afford. The base model retina MacBook pro.

I finally got my graduation money to buy the macbook pro I want. It's the low end pro, 2.3ghz with retina display. ($2200) I checked online and they say there is a 3-4 week before the item even gets shipped. I also tried calling me local apple store twice and got 2 different responses, the first one said they got a shipment earlier today but they quickly sold out nearly an hour later, and the second specialist told me I should just order it online.

MacBook Pro :: Is The Retina RAM User-upgradeable

Jun 12, 2012

Ivy Bridge, just like Sandy Bridge, supports RAM upgrades all the way to 32 GB. However, Apple seems to be limiting this to 16 GB. Websites like Crucial will sell you a 32GB RAM package for the same price as Apple offers you a 16GB ram upgrade. Can anyone enlighten me on this? Will the Retina MacBook Pro be able to upgrade the RAM separately say after a year or so of owning it? I have heard that the RAM is soldered to the board, but there are also indications that there is an upgrade tab on the top right-hand corner of the RAM card location.

MacBook Pro :: Retina Display - Is 8GB Good Enough

Jun 14, 2012

I can't imagine why I would need any more than 8GB since I'm not a professional photographer or video editor or whatever, so I'm planning on going with the base model. Smart idea? The only reason I'm even considering getting the 16GB is because the RAM isn't upgradable and I'm somewhat scared I might regret not getting the 16GB when the computer's a bit older and 16GB start to become the standard amount of RAM- if that ever happens?

For those that know these toshibas, the light on it stays blue instead of turning white.

I have tried mounting it via diskutility, but to no avail. It has a fair number of things I need to transfer over!
