MacBook Pro :: Prepare Proper Anti Static Space Before Opening Machine

My first time swapping an internal computer component btw. And I'm planning to install my new momentus xt in it. I have read online on how to effectively ground myself, using anti static wrist bands, etc. But they all point to building a desktop computer. Is there a piece of metal where the wrist band wires can attach to in the macbook pro? Would doing the procedure on cardboard or floor tiles work?
I need to purchase some of the orange anti-static tape that Apple uses to cover the connections on logic boards. I recently fixed a MBP (2.4GHz SR 15") and need to find some tape for the board. I know it isn't a completely crucial component, however, I would like to make my computer look as if it were new. If anyone knows where to buy this tape, the exact tape, not another version, please post a reply or email me. Thank you.
I've bought a 1 TB iomega ego mac edition II external fire wire drive. Once connected it asked whether i want to create a password and whether i want my data encrypted, to which i answered yes. Then a time machine backup started and failed after backing up 5.25 GB out of 39 GB of my data with the following error: "The backup disk ran out of space unexpectedly. Time Machine will try to make more space available by removing expired backups during the next scheduled backup". When i look at time machine it shows there is 994.29 GB available on iomega ego drive. The drive then went into: "Encrypting Backup Disk" message and it takes forever.

I have a G5 / no iSight iMac. There is rumor that a power surge occured. When the machine is powered on, there are a few seconds of static, sounds a bit like pink noise, coming out of the internal speakers. After that, it will boot properly, and there's an occasional static sound. If there is no RAM in the machine, it obviously won't boot, but there is no static at all. Just that "tone" signaling the absence of RAM. Any ideas?
I am wondering if there is anything I can do to prepare my computer for a hard drive swap regarding repairing any permissions or erasing any files.
Im planning to swap my 500GB 5400 OEM drive for a 500GB seagate Momentus XT using super duper, I was wondering if I should do anything to make sure I don't have any errors and get the best out of my new drive.
Anti-Glare vs Glossy with an anti-glare film. Opinions? Advice? I want to retain the pretty black bezel and the film would serve a double purpose: anti-glare and scratch protection.
whenever I run Time Machine on my PowerBook G4 (1.5 Ghz / 1Gb RAM / OSX 10.5.8) it will eat up GB's of hard disk space while 'preparing the backup'. After that it finishes the backup, but I don't get the space back. I'm talking about the internal HD, not the external target disk of course. Does Time Machine use the space to generate some temporary files? Any ideas how I can get my disk space back
I love the new stacks in snow leopard but sometimes I find myself wanting to space bar to preview etc and I can't so I want to quickly launch the finder into that folder. Is there a way? ie a hotkey and a click etc.
I just tried to back up my Mac Book Air and I use OS X 10.7.3. Â
I got a message which said that there was not enough space on my external hard drive.  The message said that I needed 50 GB and the external drive only has 43 of space... Note, when I check out the hard drive, it says: ""Available 43.63 of 249.93".Â
The sole purpose of my hard drive is for back up purposes. So, there isn't anything other data or information on the drive..
I am about 2 years into my move back to mac with a small professional office and I am considering a fresh install of Lion from Snow Leopard on the Mac Pro (1st generation) and a 2009/10 MacBookPro. I believe the Mac Pro shipped with Leopard and the MacBookPro shipped with Snow Leopard but not sure if I am off by an OS release on that. In any event, it has been a /ton/ of effort in customizing this setup and it includes an install of Mac Drive, Parallels and other software and software settings.
I have also edited the registry on windows in a couple of instances and I have run a couple of Terminal customizations on the mac side. Two questions. What should I do to prepare for a fresh install and how much time might be involved in redoing my setup? Is it worth all the effort? I mean, I /do/ have a 2 TB hard drive to take the place of my existing 1 TB drive and I could use the extra space. But at the same time I wonder if a fresh install is necessary.

For no apparent reason the command-space keyboard shortcut no longer works for opening Spotlight. I go into the preferences for Spotlight and it shows no keyboard shortcut, I make it command-space again, exit, and it still doesn't work. If I go back into the preferences, it is blank again. What is going on?
i was wondering how much space should i partition for my time machine backups on my 500 GB external drive. I currently use about 120 GB of my 320 GB internal MBP hard drive. Would 350 GB be enough for my time machine backups? Or more or less. What did you guys do?
I have a 15" MBP with a 250GB HDD. I have about 150 gigs free, so obviously only 100 gigs are in use. So if I use my external HDD to backup to Time Machine, will I only need 100 gigs of it, or will Time Machine need the full 250GB for the backup?
I want to donate my iMac (OS X 10.6), and I don'y know what I ought to do before I donate it. Format the HD? Erase only certain files? Is there a standard method?
how to prepare for a "clean install" of Mountain Lion when it comes out. However, it's clean in theory because I want to be able to have my personal files and programs ready for ML but I am afraid for any left-overs from deleted apps since I tend to install & uninstall them for test drive purposes.

When I send files to trash the disc space is not freed up. I've looked on the forums and some people have had success with turning off time machine. I didn't set time machine up because I back up to a portable hard drive only the space is disappearing on that too!
I have a macbook that was given the ol beer in the keyboard treatment and went dark with a ghost image, before I bought it, leading me to believe that it was the inverter board had blown, I bought one online and replaced it but to no avail. The previous owner obviously had very little knowledge as they left a few screws out on reassembly but I don't think they should matter a lot. I could of course use it with an external monitor but kind of defeats the purpose of a laptop. So would like to get the display working without having to buy a new display. I cannot seem to find out if it is possible to replace the backlight, if this is the problem, or to find one for sale online, even on the excellent ifixit site. It is a 2Ghz intel core 2 duo.

This happened before and a restart fixed the problem, but not anymore. Out of nowhere, I startup and I'm getting a message on the screen of my Samsung 2033SW that the resolution should be 1600 x 900 60mhz. This is a message from the monitor, not a Mac system message. But there is no setting for 1600x900 on the system prefs. I tried restarting, and so on, but nothing... In previous occurrences, somehow some way, I started to see the proper settings and then I just selected them in system prefs. But no longer. I'm stuck on 1024 x 768, the closest to the proportional resolution I'm after. I don't know of any way to force the proper resolution. Are there some .plist files I can delete? There are other issues with this machine which is old and I'm working around for now.Â
When i open Time Machine it open "Connecting to Server" window ( Conencting to backup volume ..). After trying it asking me "Do you still want to start Time Machine?"Â "Backup volume in now available." i choos Continue , after that is not opening..Â
Before that it never ask me about connection to server. i can't open Time Machine..

I have my time machine set up and plug it in to my macbook every other night to back it up. nothing is excluded. Now that i need to go back in time to get something, the time machine app will not even open.
I have my MacBook hooked up to an external monitor of 1920 x 1080 resolution. I don't use the MacBook screen at all. Every time I turn on my MacBook it displays on the external monitor as it should, but at the MacBook's 1280 x 800 resolution, which obviously looks nasty and stretched on the big monitor. I fix this by simply putting the Mac to sleep and pressing a key on my keyboard to wake it up again; and it loads in the proper resolution. Is there a way to make it display 1920 x 1080 on boot up without having to sleep and wake every single time? Keeping my MacBook in sleep mode when not in use isn't an option.
I am having a bit of an issue with my 13 MBP. With absolutely no rhyme or reason as to frequency, I have been having issues where all of a sudden: I can't create folders on the desktop (Error code -50) iTunes won't open (error code 13014) Spotlight won't search (returns dictionary definitions) Firefox won't open (A copy is already running...) Thunderbird won't open (A copy is already running...) and probably other problems I can't recall right off.
The machine is slow to restart when I do; one time I couldn't get past the gray screen for an hour. Once it gets through a restart however everything is fine for some amount of time before the problem happens again. I have received two kernel panics in the past week. Both came off the back of waking the laptop from sleep. As far as I can tell (or remember), I haven't installed anything that would cause the system to go nuts. I have TM backups, would prefer to use one of those versus a complete wipe as I have Parallels installed and don't want to have to redo that, plus Windows, plus all my Windows programs, etc. I do have a lost+found and Damaged Files folders in my Macintosh HD directory. Not sure where they came from, can't really determine by looking. More info, when I try to save something from online, it says there is not enough disk space. Also, it appears as though dmg's will not mount.
I just replaced my old hard drive today, and transferred over all data/settings etc using time machine. Everything went well until I tried to open mail. It instructed me to import my emails, and after click "done". Fine. Now I can't open mail. Restarted. Tried to open mail, and again, it instructed me to do the same thing? Btw - I'm using a late 2006 intel imac, with Snow Leopard (10.6.8).
I have a 320GB internal hard drive and a 320GB external. Until recently, the "free" space on my external was very similar to the free space on my main drive (about 50% full). But then in the last few weeks, suddenly my external is almost full, yet my internal drive is still around 50%.
All I've done in the last few weeks is add a bunch of music to my iTunes, but that was only 5-10GB of space. I find it strange that Time Machine is using so much more space, even though it does have all the incremental backups.2 questions:
1) Anyone know why it might be using so much more space?
2) Is the 'rule of thumb' that an external drive should be bigger than the internal one, because of all the incremental backups?
My MBP has a 500GB HDD and I have about 70GB free. My backup drive is also a 500GB HDD and has been erased. I chose the drive for my Time Machine backup but it fails and Time Machine says it needs 507GB when the estimated was only 429GB. Why does it need the additional 80GB?
I just bought a new HD 500gb to put my time machine on, and it has 34 GB of phantom space. I have 84GB being used for my files, but yet 34GB of unknown space. Is that for the program itself?
