How do we manually eject a disc from our Mac Mini. We have tried ejecting it from
finder and command E. No luck. We can't seem to find a tiny little hole to manually eject.
I have a 2TB Time Machine drive that has failed (directory errors). Disk Utility, Disk Warrior and Data Rescue 3 didn't work. DR3 showed the directory but can't restore it. Can I manually restore the backup folder (backups.backupdb) ?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI am having problems ejecting the external hard drive that I use to back up my laptop. It is a 2012 MacBook Pro running Mountain Lion OSX 10.8.5. My external hard drive is a WD 2 TB My Book Studio. I use it to back up my laptop with Time Machine. Every time I try to eject my disk now I am told that "The disk (Diskname) wasn't ejected because one or more programs may be using it." I have tried some solutions like to stop Spotlight from indexing the disk and to try and turn off TimeMachine, but neither of these worked. The only thing that has worked so far is to log out of my user name and log back in with a guest user and eject it from there. This takes up a lot of time and is ultimately not really a sustainable way of working on my computer.

I was using an external drive for Time Machine for the past year and a few months On Saturday a message came up that it failed. I tried initiating the Time Machine again but failed. I decided to get a new bigger external drive to use for Time Machine. When trying to eject the external drive I was using it gives me this message:
Would it be safe just to force eject or log out and then log back in again to eject it so I can use my new external drive?

View 24 Replies View RelatedWhen I try to use the disc encryption feature in Finder for a flash drive (from the sidebar), it asks for a password which I have done.
However, this encryption method for a flash drive is not working after I put in the password - a window informing me that a 'GUID Partition Table (GPT) partitioning scheme is required' appears. I don't know what this means.
I'm trying this on a MacBook Pro (OS 10.8.2) with a SanDisk flash drive (32 GB, MacOS Extended format).
I just got a new CD-ROM to help me learn sign language. I put in the first CD and to access certain material I have to insert another CD. I can't eject the first one when the window is up on the screen. When I do eject it the window closes and the second disc doesn't work. Any help would be appreciated. There HAS to be a way to override this. I just want to be able to eject the first disc without having to quit everything.

Really annoyed with the fact that this disc is proving difficult to eject. The laptop is not reading the dvd, therefore the usuall methods of ejecting a disc hasn't worked, e.g. pressing the eject button and moving the disc icon to the trash. I have tried the disk utilty application as well, still, the laptop does not recognise that there is a disc inserted!
I have tried other methods that I have read including reebooting and holding the trackpad, repeating that process with a credit card and also that didn't work. The laptop does make an effort to eject the dvd, as the ussual nioses are made, although the sound made don't sound too good. I also tried the terminal programme which resulted in the same noises but the dvd still remains stuck.
One thing I havent tried is to take it to a store or specialist but I would like to try remove it myself first as going to a store is a hassle!!! is there any other way that i havent tried

I had to drop my iMac G5 in this morning to the apple store to get a stuck DVD out of the superdrive!!. My question is, how often to discs get stuck in the drive??? Is this a common problem??? Is there a risk of the disc getting stuck every time you put one in???? Why wouldn't apple put a pinhole to manually eject the disc or some other way of manually getting the disc out!???

View 7 Replies View RelatedI tried installing Snow Leopard on my Late 2007 MBP with the installation disk I got with my 2009 MBP but I figured out that it wouldn't work because the installation disc would only work on the new machine not the old one. Anyway, now when I boot, I get the usual installation guide but the disk won't eject. I went to Disk Utility-->Eject Disk but it gave me a warning message that it couldn't be ejected because some applications were being used. I have no idea what that means and why it wouldn't eject the disc!
View 2 Replies View RelatedMy Superdrive was making a funny noise, so I quickly ejected my game disc so It wouldn't ruin it. A few minutes later, I had to burn a DVD, so I put in a blank DVD, and tried to burn my iDVD project to it. iDVD kept telling me to put a disc in. I hit eject, and nothing happened. I went to my desktop, and noticed that "Blank DVD" was not present. So, I have a disc stuck in my MBP, and my Mac doesn't think there is a disc in there, so eject doesn't work. What do I do? Should I just bring it in the Apple Store?
View 2 Replies View Relateda dog got himself wrapped up in the power lead and sadly the magnet didn't do it's thing and the Macbook hit the (concrete) deck.I was pretty concerned as I have lost a couple fo HDs in the past I think due to this cause when the HD arm wasn't parked.Well the Macbook still works, and I hope it continues to do so.When I wake it up though, it makes that sound like ejecting (or drawing in?) a CD. Then seems OK.

Is there a way to "Force eject" or some equivalent? Odd thing is that when I open iDVD it says that my computer is not equipped with a superdrive. So it sounds as though my drive is not working.

View 3 Replies View RelatedMy G4 tower has needed occasional disc utility repairs but this time there's something strange. The disc won't mount, instead after the normal time for the disc to mount, the disc is ejected. I've restarted the computer while the disc was being read, and held down the "c" key, and the computer ends up with a question mark folder flashing on the screen. I can put the disc into my G4 laptop and read it fine. It also looks to have no marks or scratches. The G4 tower can read other discs including the OS9 install and repair disc. There is OS9 installed in the tower and not on the laptop.
