MacBook Pro :: No Sleep Mode When Runs Out Of Battery?

Jun 2, 2010

So my Macbook Pro has been working wonderfully, until recently when it runs out of battery it goes into sleep mode but when I plug in the power cord it does not do the restoring from how it was before (i don't know what its called, but its when the screen goes grey and the white bars go across until i can get back in) it does not show me anything so I have to press the power button and even then it does not show me that screen it just reboots (i don't hold it in but just press it normally like when booting it up) Then when it is booted the date and time are reset and the Wi-fi does not work. I have to reset the clock and it then works fine.

MacBook Air :: Battery Runs Out / Computer Doesn't Go To Sleep

Feb 28, 2012

Anyway, sometimes I'll leave my MacBook Air on without the power adaptor attached, and the battery will drain. That's all fine and dandy. The problem is, is that instead of going to sleep LIKE IT SHOULD, it will completely turn off, and everything I had up (web pages, anything and everything) will be GONE when it starts back up.

MacBook Air :: Battery Drains Extremely Fast In Sleep Mode / Battery Down To 16% From 29%

Jan 6, 2009

I get the whole part about that I set my laptop to go to sleep in 5 minutes, and if I close the lid it'll go to sleep, and the little light at the bottom starts to pulse, etc. But in sleep mode, my battery seems to drain extremely fast!

For my old Gateway M275 laptop while in sleep mode, it would probably lose about 5-7% of it's battery in a day's duration. With my MacBook Air, I just came back to it tonight after a day's worth of sleeping, and my battery was down to 16% from 29%. And to check, it was indeed sleeping!

MacBook Pro :: The Battery Turn Off While In Sleep Mode?

Jan 7, 2011

I'm going to purchase a macbook pro at some point, probably when the new announcement happens, but my question is: while the laptop is in sleep mode, does the battery turn off? Like, does it still consume energy while in sleep mode?

Probably a dumb question, but I know nothing about laptops.Never had a laptop before (currently using a imac g5 from 2006).

MacBook Pro :: Battery Drains Fast While Sleep Mode

Jun 29, 2009

I use first-gen unibody 15 inch Macbook Pro. I rarely shutdown and leave it sleep. However, sleeping somehow drains battery quite much. For example, after one day of sleep, my battery goes from 100% to about 60%. My previous Santa Rosa macbook pro never did this. My current setting is sleep and hibernate. I checked it in SmartSleep.

MacBook Pro :: Leave In Sleep Mode Lose About 5-8% Of The Battery?

Jan 15, 2010

I own a late 2009 MBP that I use with an external monitor as my work computer each day. At the end of the work day I generally unplug the network cable, Apple Cinema Display, and then just put it to sleep by closing the lid. Some days I use it later after I get home, others I don't. If I leave it in Sleep mode I generally lose about 5-8% of the battery by the next morning.

I'm just wondering if I'd be better off shutting it down completely each night. Any pros/cons? Battery considerations?

MacBook Pro :: How To Activate Sleep Mode At 5 Percent Battery Automatically

Mar 28, 2012

I would like to my macbook pro to be turned off at 5% Battery power, as it doesn't turn of correctly at 0%. I'm having this issue for some years now, and want to get rid of it. Which plist needs to be changed for this? Or is there a Terminal-Command that's providing this? I don't want to buy a new battery yet, cause the one I have is quite fine still. I already reset the SMC and the Parameters. Is the battery status relevant, when resetting the SMC? Here's what has been going on so far: [URL]

MacBook Pro :: No Sleep Mode At Low Battery - Data Loss And Time Reset

Mar 13, 2012

When I run my macbook pros Battery down, there comes the low battery warning. After a while the system just goes down without suspending anything to my harddisk. When I restart my computer it does a normal start and after logging in I'm experiencing a lot messages due to the reset time. I correct my system-time and restart my mac and the system is back to normal.

Usually I'd say: Replace your CMOS-Battery (I know I have an EFI-Firmware), but where is it?. Or in other words: Is there a "System"-Battery, that would prevent my mac from forgetting the time?

Since I'm not running down my battery to 0 very often I only experience this issue from time to time and never took time to do anything about it.

iStats battery-Status says: Health:83%, Cycles:333, charge 50%...

OS X :: MBP Reboots After Dead Battery In Sleep Mode

Jan 21, 2010

So, back in the day, when my MacBook Pro's battery would die while asleep or on and you plug it back in, the laptop would essentially revive itself from your last used state. Its like waking from sleep, but takes longer because the computer has backup the memory state to the hard drive.

Its seems my MacBook Pro no longer does this. When the battery dies and I turn it on, it reboots. I am not sure if it is related, but I have modified my MacBook Pro by removing the optical drive and replacing it with an 80GB Intel SSD to compliment the 500GB 7200rpm Seagate. The SSD is the boot disk and is in the DVD Drive's old spot.

OS X :: White Macbook Runs On AC Power (no Battery) But Not On Battery?

Apr 29, 2010

Just wondering if anyone has ever encountered this or if any experts out there know of the issue.I have a spare White Macbook (late 2008: Core 2 Duo 2.1GHz, 1GB, 120GB) that I'd like to set up for my brother to use to introduce him to the wonderful world of Macs. The problem it is having is that when I have a battery connected to it (I tried 2 different ones included a known-good one that is brand-new just purchased from Apple) it powers on and gives me the chime, but then immediately shuts off unexpectedly giving that little "whine" sound like if it just lost power all of a sudden. However, when i take out the battery, and just plug it into the Magsafe AC charger it works fine. Also when just trying to run on battery it does not turn on at all. Here's some cliffs:

1) Macbook with just battery does not turn on
2) Macbook with battery + Magsafe AC charger connects powers on, gives the chime, but then immediately shuts off making the "whine" sound as if the power was suddenly cut off
3) Macbook with no battery connected and just the Magsafe AC charger connected works fine.Do you guys think this is either:

A) battery connector issue (the little piece with the metal wires that the battery connects to. ~$50 part)
B) Logic Board issue

I already tried resetting the PRAM and SMU to no avail.

Software :: System Not Exiting Sleep Mode / Kicks Back Into Sleep Mode

Dec 29, 2009

As of last night, my MBP started acting very strangely. After entering my username and password, it would enter the desktop for a short period of time and then kick back into sleep mode; the screen would turn back to black. Sometimes it will let me stay on the desktop for a long time and other times it will hardly let me stay on the desktop. I called apple support and they had me start the computer in safe mode; even then it occasionally kicks me out.

The tech guy said that it was a "strange software issue" and not a hardware issue. I thought it was a hard drive issue; my hard drive makes an odd sound when it unlocks (a grinding sound), but it has been doing that for quite some time with no issues. I tried to reset the SMC and it didn't do anything.

How should I remedy this problem? Is this a hard drive issue? Hard drive failure? Has the grinding sound finally caught up with me? I am running OS X; not leopard or snow leopard. I know I need to upgrade, but this shouldn't be happening.

MacBook :: It Runs Slower On Safe Mode

Apr 29, 2012

I heard someone talking about this "Safe Mode" and I thought it was an interesting feature in MacBooks and all I have to do was press Shift. I tried that and to my surprise, everything is slower. I tried to swith spaces and the wallpaper renders pixel per pixel on my screen. This never happened before. It's so slow! It has never been this slow before. I was curious if everything was really slower or it's just me so I fired up Geekbench. The results were staggering. 1280 points. A Power Mac G5 is faster than that. Even the Mac mini from 2007 is faster than that! This MacBook SHOULD be 3695! This is really amazing in a bad way. And other than that, I didn't really notice any difference at all from Safe Mode and Normal Mode.

MacBook Pro :: Fan Runs Constantly From Startup / Battery Life Getting Worse?

Oct 20, 2009

I've got an early 2008 Macbook Pro and, recently, I've noticed that the fan (fans?) begins running from the moment the computer is powered-up. iStat tells me that both fans are running at about 2000 rpms, though I only hear a slight whoosing noise from the left side. I don't remember the fan running constantly, and I have noticed that my battery life seems worse than normal recently. Is this normal, and something I just haven't noticed until recently?

OS X Mavericks :: Runs Out Of Application Memory During Sleep

Aug 27, 2014

Shortly after updating:

Safari (to 7.0.6)

Java (to version 7 update 67)

Pages (5.2.2, which has "An error has occurred" note in the purchases section of my App Store application)

Keynote (6.2.2)

Numbers (also has "An error has occurred" note in the "Purchases section" of my App Store application, and while it shows "installed" in same section, Numbers does not appear on the recently updated list in the "Updates" section)

and iMovie (10.0.5)

I also recall an Adobe update occurring (Macromedia?).

I began experiencing slow wake-from-sleep behavior. More recently, I have been getting "out of application memory" dialogs upon waking from sleep. There have also been a couple instances where the computer would not wake and had to be restarted. At one point, without having gotten the "out of application memory" dialog, I did note that virtual memory had ballooned to over 14 GB. That stayed like that until I logged out and logged back in.

This behavior seems to be specific to a user account (did not repeat when logged in as admin for one overnight test, but haven't tried an all day admin login).

I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling BOINC, as well as removing an Adobe Resource Synchronizer app from the user login items (given the recent Adobe update, and having read that said item could cause trouble).

So, I'm not sure how to proceed beyond offering the reports below:

Power Mac G5 :: Fan Runs On High And Won't Wake From Sleep - It Freezes?

Dec 10, 2007

I have a G5 (Power PC, g5, Dual 1.8 GHZ with 1.25 GB SDRAM, and Mac OS X 10.4.10-phew!) and I recently: added more USB ports using a PCI card, and purchased a non-Apple 22" widescreen display.

Prior to adding USB ports, I was using a hub that ran off its own power source, and used a Samsung 19" monitor.

My situation now: everything starts up fine, but ultimately the fan will kick in at SUPER HIGH and won't stop. I can put my Mac to sleep--which stops the fan noise--but then it won't wake up.

I have run the Apple Hardware test and everything checks out OK. I've also reset the SMU according to directions from this forum; AND I've vacuumed out all the dust bunnies.

The fan runs so loud and so high it sounds like it's an airplane that's about to take off.

Short of bringing in my Mac to a technician, can you recommend anything? My Mac has been glitch free up until now.
