I'm running OSX 10.5.8 on a Macbook Pro, and today I've been unable to connect to the internet via ethernet or wi-fi, unless I'm in safe mode. Then everything seems to work as it should, which makes me believe that this is a software issue rather than a hardware problem. I've tried making a new account with administrator priveleges, but that doesn't solve my issue. Does anyone have any advice on how I can connect to the internet under my normal user account, rather than in safe mode? I should note that I won't be able to get my hands on my repair CD or perform a clean install of OSX because that stuff is at home, and I'm in college. Also, I'm at a university and don't have a router. I just use the campus-wide wi-fi. Finally, my roommate has no problem accessing the internet in our room via ethernet or wi-fi, but I do. Thanks for the help everyone.

I have a macbook a little over a year old. It's my first mac and I love it. Yesterday though it started acting really weird. I first noticed that it was really, really hot and the fan was running. I turned it off and back on and here's what I found out:
Applications are being deleted from macbook. ITunes, IPhoto, iChat have clear question marks over icon. There are 8-10 blank spaces in the Applications folder where applications have been deleted. However, data is still there (ex. pictures still there, but no iPhoto).
Internet= Says I have internet but wont connect.
Cannot open " System Preferences" or "Internet Preferences".
If connected to home computer will connect to internet and allowed to open internet preferences but still no system preferences.
If shut down....takes a while to come back on and starts up 2-3 times.
Also "Preview" is gone. Now " ColorSync Utility" opens.
Is this my hard drive dying? I'm tech challenged, so any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have a blackbook (intel core 2 duo) and I can connect to my landlord's wireless network (they have a netgear wgt624) but I can't actually use the web (Safari or Firefox will just "think"). I've tested the diagnostics and it confirms that my mac can connect to the network, but it cannot connect to the internet. The network uses WPA personal and it has a 19-aphanumeric passphrase.
*Also - would it be possible for me to extend the wireless range (and make it possible to browse the web) if I used my own 2wire wireless modem to connect to the netgear wgt624?

currently I connect to the internet by doing this: Go to System Preferences / Network. Then I select my internet provider name on the left pane and finally click on the Connect button. That's all. This internet profile has a PPoE service name, an account name and a password. My internet connection uses a cable DLink router (it's not wireless).Â
Question:Â
1) Does the password I mentioned above mean that my neighbors can't access my internet, or are they able to do that and, in this case, I need to set another password somewhere else?Â
2) If I need another password, how and where do I set it,

Anyways, I have a MBP 13" (new model) and I have a PS3.
Previously, I used a Windows7 laptop and I used to connect my PS3 to internet using an ethernet cable, while my laptop was connected to internet through a 3G USB modem. Now I need to connect my PS3 to net using the 3G USB modem, except I'm using a MBP. It doesn't matter if it's using an ethernet cable or making a WiFi connection between my MBP and PS3.

So i normally just close the lid on my mac and put it to sleep when ever im done with it, and when i open it it reconnects to my wireless internet connection in about 10 seconds and i can surf the web. Well yesterday i opened it and it connected to the network but it wont open the web page. i click the network diagnostics option and it says it detects that nothing is wrong with my connection, but when i try to browse, the same message come up. after about 5 minutes of clicking refresh and quiting safari and opening it again it will randomly start working. i have had this computer for about 7 months and i have never had this problem before. i have also tried disconnecting and then reconnecting to the network but it still wont work.

The source of the internet hasn't chaged, same provider, nothing new. I could connect yesterday a bit but it was in and out for a while, now today nothing.
Under the "Network Status" my AirPort is green, my AirPort Settings is green, my Network Settings is yellow, my ISP is green and then my Internet and Server are both red.....however I'm currently sitting on my boyfriends Dell, that is fully connected wirelessly to the exact same wireless network. Ive tried re-starting the computer, turning the airport on and off etc...

I accidentally smashed my wrist hard on the bottom right corner of my MacBook Pro, and now I can't connect to the internet. For the Network Status, all of the lights are red and the computer will not connect at all. What I wanna know is, when I hit the bottom right hand corner of my MacBook Pro, did I screw up the IC?

I've been searching the forum for an answer and have found close but not quite. I'm running a Macbook on Snow leopard as is a friend that I am now working with. She (or rather, her husband) also has a NAS connected via a wireless router on a home network. We would like to load the files that we are both working from on the NAS so we are working from one set of master files. We both move around alot (btween Fance & Italy). Now, I can access the NAS easily from her computer on their network - the Mac picked it up automatically but now that I'm home, I can't seem to find it on my computer. I've tried putting the IP address of the NAS into Safari - error message, server not responding. I've also tried to connect to server via afp - same thing
how can we access the NAS via the internet? Does her husband have to specifically creat an account on the thing for me? I'm at a loss here as I have no experience of NAS devices.

I have a Macbook Air running 10.5 and I am having an issue with the internet connection slowing down every time I use my TV (50" plasma 1080p) as a monitor. The wireless internet connection either slows down or stalls out completely. The moment I disconnect it from the TV, everything starts working again, full speed. I have already moved my wireless to another room because I thought the TV might be interfering with the connection but that didn't help at all.

Anyway, so I bought a 15" 2.66GHz MBP beginning of December and up until a day or 2 ago I've been experiencing problems when I try connecting to the internet.
There are 2 other computers in the house (Windows based, don't know if that's go anything to do with it) and they both connect just fine.
So is there anything wrong with the MBP that I can fix?
(I've tried rebooting the MBP, the router, the modem, everything...)

I have a MBP that will not connect to the internet. The airport shows an ip, but shows failed for internet and server. I have another laptop, desktop, ipad 2&3, iphone and 3 ipods connected to wifi and work flawlessly. I called the ISP and spoke with them for about 2 hours and they say all settings are right, and they can even see the MBP on their end. Wanted to add, i cannot connect with ethernet either, wired directly to modem by bypassing router.

I have a MacBook Pro that I have had from about 3 years now. It's been great but earlier this week, it wasn't able to connect to the internet here at my school (college). I didn't think too much of it because my schools internet is always spotty and goes down from time to time. Yet when I go on to my computer tonight nothing I do with my airport or computer will get my webpages to say anything other than "Server not found". I tried turning off my airport then back on and reselecting my network because usually that helps. It would say it connected and I would have full bars but still the same error message. I tried again, and when I did it this time, I did it from within the system/network preferences. When I did this, I watched the connection of my airport go red, then I would connect and it would go to yellow saying I had no IP address.
I would then sit and wait and eventually it would fully connect giving me the green go-a-head. But, again when I would open up my internet, I would get the "Sever not found" message. I would then quit my firefox all together and tried again that way and still same massage. I restarted my computer and tried again...nothing. I became more concerned because my roommate could get on the internet just fine and I could use the wireless in my room through my phone. I was consered that now this was a matter with my computer and not just the internet, so to make sure I got out my ethernet cable and hooked it up with my connection in my room.

My macbook air only connects to my home internet automatically occasionally, even though it is set to connect to the network automatically. I have to either manually type in my internet and password almost every time or I have to turn off and on the AirPort. This does not happen at other places where my computer is set to connect automatically. My mom has the same computer as me and lives in the same house and she has no problems connecting to the internet.

I have moved to a new place and I was able to connect my imac and mobile devices to the internet via WIFI but not my macbook pro. I have tried all the suggestions I have seen here but didn't work. Such as: turning off and on the airport, restarting the router, renewing DHCP lease, entering all ip data manually, deleting the network and putting it back, etc.

I've been looking around the internet for a solution to this problem. I'm currently in an apartment with a single wired connection running to my Macbook Pro, i haven't got time to buy a switch or router right now and i've been trying to connect my 360 to the internet using Airport. All of the how-to's i've found so far concern connecting the 360 and Macbook via Ethernet rather than Airport, and while i've tried to follow the steps as best as i can i haven't been able to connect to xbox live.
