MacBook Pro :: Installing SSD In 13.3 - Performance Improvement?

From the basic 250 gig 5400RPM drive, should I see significant performance improvements? My primary use for my laptop will be music editing, I'll be working with 15-20 meg mp3 files, and my live mix sets will be recorded in wav so those are like 700 megs. I'm assuming, especially with the 700 meg file, I will see significant performance improvement reading and writing the file, but I could be wrong. What is the best bang for the buck in a SSD right now?

I bought my first macbook a 13" white 1.83 ghz core 2 duo with 1gb ram and 60gb hard drive. Im trying to get myself over to the mac world so I bought this to see if I like it or not so far im loving it. My question is Will I see significant improvement in performance by upgraded the ram and hard drive?

Considering buying win 7 so i can bootcamp for 1st time. Before I do though, I want to know if/why it'll work. I've read that OSX 10.6 has driver issues witn nVidia hardware. Well, why would they be any different on Windows? Does Microsoft write its own drivers for Mac hardware? Or is it nVidia? I ask this b/c dont you have to install the drivers off the OSX disc? Doesn't make sense why apple would give you better drivers for windows than they do for OSX. Point is, I'd be doing this for gaming. I just don't see why there'd be any performance improvement with the SAME HARDWARE, just running windows instead.

I know that Flash uses more battery power. However is that only when you are actually using a window that needs Flash. Does just installing it decrease your battery performance in any way? I am running into lots of sites that require Flash and I would like to install it but not at the risk of severely limiting my battery usage when not actually using it.

Just finished the install and I am wowed by the color of my screen. I had been using a custom calibrated profile in Leopard. Snow Leopard defaulted it back and it is MUCH better than what I had. I tested my 'calibrated' profile and it is god awful now.
Anyone else experience a major improvement in color after the upgrade? What could the explanation be for this?

I cant remember what the highest end card option was for the core 2 duo 3.06, but is the 4850 really a big improvement over the old iMacs? It wont change my opinion of the new machines (I think they're fantastic) but I'd love to really know what the new big difference is graphics wise.

I just finished up a fresh install of Windows 7 and downloaded and installed the NVidia driver from their site directly since the one in the Boot Camp files is pretty old and technically the Vista driver anyway.
But I still need the Brightness, Sound, etc key functionality. Is there a way to selectively install Boot Camp drivers? That's the only one I need. The wireless, chipset, video and everything else works just fine (and in some cases better) than the ones included in Apple's setup.

Has anyone tried running multiple virtual machines on these guys yet? I'm looking to run base installs of different OS's for my InfoSec classes. I'm really just testing different security configurations nothing fancy.
I'm looking at the 11.6/1.4/4gb of ram. Most of the time I'm only running 2 Virtual machines, just want to know if it can handle them.
I've seen some people have got win7 to run which is cool but the second os running is critical in this scenario.

Im thinking about buying a 13" mba to be my computer everywhere i go, but I have some doubts about it's performance because there are a lot of different opinions around the web.
It will not be my primary machine, since I have a sony vaio F (heaavyy for carryng around!) and a powerful desktop for gaming and rendering, but i will ocasionally need to do some work on adobe cs5, autocad, and google sketchup light work on the mba. Have you guys ever tried one of this programs? how is the performance?

Hey so I just got a MacBook in September and I want to keep it fast, clean, and working smooth for the years to come.I want to do all the things possible regularly (maybe once every 2 or 3 weeks, maybe more often) that will help optimize the performance, speed, and everything else on my MBP and keep it clean and working smooth... If I download Onyx, I don't know what "processes" to do and something might happen or get deleted if I check off something for Onyx to do. So could you tell me specifically what to do to just make my MBP faster, cleaner and all that like I said before.

I just ordered the 2.4GHz i5 15" (with high-res glossy screen) and was wondering whether it was worth it to spend the $225 and buy an Intel X25-M 80GB SSD.Will the performance be that noticeable (for the money)?

Copying 1.3 TB of data from one USB2 drive to another, using the port on the TB display and a port on the MBP it was going to take three days plus, moving the drives so both coming off the MBP the data copies in about 12 hours, about what you would expect, and what I experienced on my Mac Pro. I have not noticed this in the past but have only ever moved small amounts via USB. (maybe I also need to run a speed test on the TB RAID.) All software up to date?

I am starting to do more and more projects recently everything from illustrations, 3d motion graphics, video work, compositing etc... The laptop seems to be doing okay but I know there is room for improvement. I'm definitely going to max out my ram to 8gb. I'm thinking of doing this option bay thing here [URL].
And putting in a ssd as the main drive and keeping the 750 gb for storage purposes. That or possibly just upgrading the ram and the hard drive to something higher than 5400rpm. Should I just start with ram upgrade, should I just upgrade the hard drive to something with higher rpd or go solid state. Also what brands do you recommend?

i bought an ssd for my laptop knowing that is not going to use the sata3 because this model is only sata2 capable but the you check in system information and says that: Velocidad de enlace: 3 gigabitsVelocidad de enlace negociada:1,5 gigabits There is any possibility to use the sata2 speed in this laptop, because the ssd is going faster than the traditional hdd 5400rpm but not as fast as other ssd in sata2. with TRIM active the maximum performance is 130 read and 90 write while with the hdd was 70 read and 70 write. i recently noticed that my MacBoo Pro was with low performance after some hours of use.I try to monitor what might be causing it. What i note was:After restart (or fresh start), my computer was ok;I use applications like adobe Lightroom and VMWare Fusion;Then I star feeling like Safari was too slow to open pages - I thought it was the internet link first, but even local webpages are slow. I notice that when a click to close a tab, it take almost 2 sec to do it. The same when click to open any link on that page.I start the activity monitor, but my proc usage are low. Then, I notice the (weird) memory usage: Take a look at "memory used". I closed all applications before take this screenshot. i've trying to identify what is consuming this memory, but.. no success.

I have a macbook pro, 2.4 ghz, 2 gb ram, graphics nvidia geforce 8600 - it's about 3 years old.
The problem is that my mac is becoming slower and slower, sometimes it becomes unresponsive with simple tasks such as loading several tabs in the browser (i normally use firefox). And it happens too with photoshop, illustrator and basically any software.
The worst, is running 3D software in it. Some few months ago i could work fluently on a 3D project, now i just can't make anything that it just breaks down or crashes. Even scrolling windows is a pain in the b*tt.
I know that 3D software might be way too heavy for a 2gb ram and my graphics ain't the best... but i'm sure something is wrong with my computer because it was working fine some months ago...
I've been making software updates, i use Onyx like once a week to run the scripts, i've made a SMART hardware checkup and it says it's everything ok...
The harddrive is 160 gb and it has 20gb free space. It doesn't have much space left, but i don't think this could be the source of the problem.
Could it be a graphics card problem? i've been looking for drivers update in nvidia website, i can't find them for mac.
Or maybe some more extra ram could resolve the problem. But i don't know if i want to take the risk of spending 200 euros on + 4gb for nothing..

I'm looking to improve my gaming performance. I run The Sims 3, Team Fortress 2, Counter-Strike: Source, Day of Defeat: Source, Half-Life 2 and a few other games natively on my MacBook Pro 13". By no I means do I care for getting unrealistically high performance, but I would like to know how an SSD would effect gaming performance. Would it give a notable increase in terms of FPS? or responsive?

i remember in Leopard you were able to select different profiles in the battery menu on the menubar. There was an option for high performace and power saver, etc. In snow leopard this is not an option, is there anyway I can bring those settings back? Or is snow leopard automatically adjusting processor power?

I just got my air today and everything is fine, but some standard def quicktime files (.mov) that played fine on my mac pro and windows netbook, for some reason play like a slideshow on the 11" air. They play perfectly in VLC however, anyone know why? I would not care but there for a school project... They are rather large for their quality (600mb for 3 min) they were exported from avid...

I have been struggling with my Mac for weeks and weeks and before I finally decide to reinstall everything I wanted to turn to you experts for maybe the one hint that can resolve my problem: I have a 13 inch MBPro, mid 2010, basic version. Later I installed the WD Scorpio Blue 1 TB hard drive and copied the time machine backup. Shortly after, I recognized massive lags. I have quiet a few photos (3000 or so), 20gb of music and 40gb of films on this drive but only a few programs. Adium, Steam, Starcraft, MS Office, Skype, Growl and that is it I think. I use mobileme for synching, if that helps in any way.
Some examples: Sometimes youtube videos lag for a few seconds, even with HTML5, it takes 5 seconds to open a new tab in sapharie (again, only sometimes without any obvious rule)..................

Just wondering what the norm is in terms of where my battery levels should be. When I first received my MBA 2 weeks ago, the full charge mAh capacity was around 7100. Now after 6 cycles, the full charge max mAh is 6678.
Is this normal for the max to drop so much after only 6 cycles? Just wondering what others are experiencing in terms of battery performance.

I've got a MBP and I've been using an external 1TB FW800/eSata/USB drive with my Lightroom library for editing photos in Lightroom and Photoshop.
I want to drop the MBP and buy the Air v2 SSD. All considering NC Macguy's posts (and great disassembly photos) and all the performance-oriented info coming out.
Anyone been running PS for editing 16 bit photos, multiple layers, filters, that sort of thing? Normally, I'd waltz into a Mac Store in LA and run some edits on my own but I'm currently in Berlin and they a) don't have the new Air in yet and b) won't put an SSD out as a floor model anyways.
I've got a file (39mp) if anyone wants to download it and see if it clogs up PS I'd be very interested to know how the system holds up especially the ram.
