MacBook Pro :: Getting The Best Performance From Thunderbolt?
Apr 15, 2012
Copying 1.3 TB of data from one USB2 drive to another, using the port on the TB display and a port on the MBP it was going to take three days plus, moving the drives so both coming off the MBP the data copies in about 12 hours, about what you would expect, and what I experienced on my Mac Pro. I have not noticed this in the past but have only ever moved small amounts via USB. (maybe I also need to run a speed test on the TB RAID.) All software up to date?

I have a MacBook Pro late 2011 with Lion installed. The Performance is less than I expected if compare with my old Macbook with Snow Leopard installed. Connect to Apple's Thunderbolt Display Performance goes doen to very, very, very, very slow. For Example to load a JPG in Preview it takes more than 30 seconds until 1 min to load. Same to start iWork like Pages or Keynote.Sometimes Safari freeze, loading images or loading plugins like flash animations. Generally Lion works with low performance and I wish Snow Leopard back. But my Mybook Pro late 2011 is not compatible to install Snow Leopard on it.Â

I have an adapter for this, but when connecting my MBA to a new TV via HDMI, the TV screen shows my 'Mission Control' with relevant windows open, but not the content of those windows, such as a video playing in Safari. When I select the Safari window, the TV just shows the grey background same as Mission Control default?

Now I have a 2009 MBP and a gorgeous LED cinema 27" display. It's the model before thunderbolt, so only mini-display, charger and usb connector on it.Â
I'm considering buying a new MBP or a MBA but am wondering... can I connect my LED cinema to this Thunderbolt port without burning up my screen? Will it detect that it should only do mini-display? I'm kind of afraid to try. The screen is perfect and I'd rather not change it. (only have it for 1 year now).Â

I recently purchased Thunderbold (TB) display and 17" Macbook Pro. My TB flickers quite often and disconnects. Then I have to power off TB and reconnect. All updates are current. Dont know what the issue will be. Is there any utility to check the condition of TB. I did not connect any peripherals to TB except the Macbnook Pro.

I'm looking at getting a Thunderbolt HD for backup (Time Machine).I have a MBP (early 2011), which has a TB port, but my other machine is a MacBook from 2007, which has USB2.0 and FW400 ports. I don't want to use different HDs for the backups, so can I use an adaptor to connect the the 2007 machine via either USB2.0 or FW400?

I have a 2007 MacBook Pro, and I use the VGA adapter to connect to my TV. I always connect/disconnect while the Mac is off. My dad has a new MacBook Pro with Thunderbolt, and I'm getting him a Thunderbolt to HDMI cable. Does he need to have his Mac off while connecting to the TV, or is it hot-swappable?

I just received a new Macbook Pro (2012, retina display) and a 27" Thunderbolt display. I am having problems getting the notebook to turn on the display. I called Apple (Monday) and they had me reset the SMC and then the PRAM. After this the monitor was recognized and worked fine for the rest of the evening. However, when I turned things on yesterday evening the monitor would not turn on, and resetting the SMC and PRAM (multiple times) has no effect.

Once I disconnect the Macbook Pro from the thunderbolt and re attache it no longer recognizes the USB keyboard (all Apple products). I restart and switch USB cable around and sometimes it works but not consistently. Considering how much money is invested in your products you would expect them to work together.

I bought my Macbook Pro last september along with my Thunderbolt monitor.Everything was working until today (yes today was my first time bringing my Macbook Pro elsewhere) and when I moved it, the display shut off.then I realized that when I just move the Thunderbolt plug around it would turn on and off the display depending which side I would hold. would it be a problem with the Monitor cable? or a problem with the Macbook Pro itself? both are still under warranty, so I'm not worried, but it saves me the trouble of lugging either (especially the monitor) back to the Apple store.Â

My Macbook Pro (15 in 2 GHz core i7) absolutely crawls when I plug in the thunderbolt display. I'm running on snow leopard with 4 gigs of memory. Ive made all the neccesary updates. I plug in the screen and close my laptop and the computer gets unbearably slow. Once I open it up it gets way better and when I unplug the display it goes back to 100% speed. Ive called apple and they cant figure it out. Ive taken it to the apple store and they tell me they cant figure it out.

I have a new 2012 Macbook pro 17 and a 27 inch thunderbolt display.Â
The Macbook was working great. Then I connected it to the thunderbolt display and did clamshell mode. That worked well too. But.. then I powered down the macbook, disconnected the thunderbolt dislplay and tried to boot back up again. The mac book powers on, the back light comes on, I hear the chime then that is it. The back light stays on nothing else happens. Resetting the PRAM can not be done. Any of the boot options are ignored. It is like the keyboard is non resposive. I tried all the reset and boot combinations available but nothing works. Â
The light on the front of the macbook comes on then goes dim. The apple logo on the lid stays lit, and if I close the lid, the apple logo goes dim and the light on the front lights up. Weird, it is almost like it goes to sleep when it turns on. I tried conntecting the thunderbolt again but no joy. I am really disappointed. This is less than a month old and its already going in for repair. It should be replaced. Â

MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.7.4), I am disapoint.
